Super sentai: Themes that haven't been done.

We have had a 33 year sentai franchise, many themes and various story's have been tried, but what themes haven't been tried? what storys haven't been done before? And what would the suits\Power-ups and mecha be like? Share your ideas and thoughts for sentai themes here.

Hmm, I'd suggest a technology based series. One that focuses on technology itself and not just rescuing others like GoGo V. But I will say that at least in GoGo V, the technology was incredible. Now, if we get a series like that, where the team members get sophisticated weaponry, I'd be glad. Especially if the weapons and the Zords are constantly updated or something. Maybe even call the new series Computer Sentai TechRanger, lol, I dunno. But have the Zords kind of like the Technobots from Transformers, very technological looking, cool transformation/gattai sequence, and maybe even make it so each vehicle can switch limb modes like the G1 Combiner teams could, where each member formed either an arm or a leg for incredible powerups. And as for the suits, I guess do something with like a circuit like pattern to them, maybe something Tron-ish, I dunno. But whatever the new series is, lets hope that its something amazing.

An all female team

A team where the female is the leader without a doubt (No pink torso zords/mecha exist to my knowledge)

A team set in the past for the entire seasons

A team where there are three females serving at the same time (and full time as Rangers, not other Rangers) (not counting Deka)

A team full of "celebrities"

A fully insect/bug team (though there were two in Hurricanger and there is Kamen Rider)

A fully aquatic themed team



The only way some combo of the first four could occur is if there was a pop idol themed sentai. Think of G3 Princess as a season. Then immediately add their male manager/ driver as 4th/5th. Weapons like a megaphone (think Nanami's megaphone in Hurricanger) or a baton (Tiger Baton in Gao Ranger)... Power up would be "Pop Idol Revolution..." or something like that. Music stars might not be the best idea as a lot of people disliked Go-Onger and that's what I think would occur in a more musical type sentai. Im surprised that there hasnt been a series where five "celebrities" become the heroes.

Blue, Pink, White. MagiMother, the White Ranger, wasn't a Ranger for many episodes though, was she? I think Udonna, her counterpart, only morphed in four Mystic Force episodes, losing her snow staff in the first one, then getting her powers back near the end of the season.

And the reason the bug theme is possibly being ignored is due to the clash it might have with KR.

Hurricaneger used bugs already as well, for the Gouraigers (PRNS's Thunder Rangers). It also clashes with B-Fighter, although I wonder if the Gouraigers were in any way a homage to that, as Horned Ninja Kabuto Raiger's name suggests.

Sliders meets a mix of Greek and Japanese Mythology.

Chinese and Egyptian mythology have been done (Dai and Oh) so why not Greek/Roman? Good suggestion. :)

Closest we've had to a pink torso zord/mecha Mr Pink would be Pterodactyl Dinozord/Pteranodon Guardian Beast, which served as the chestplate for Megazord/Daizyujin. But that was really armour for the Tyrannosaurus's belly, not the torso component itself.

I personally like the idea of a bird themed sentai that actually has birds for mechas instead of flying aircrafts! That's why I've had something of my own in the works for a while now. The following are some others I think would be nice:

A sentai team of foreigners protecting Japan from an evil that originates from another country

A sentai themed after the chinese zodiac

A sentai that has an angel theme (like as in cherubim, seraphim, etc.)

For the first one I only see that happening in Power Rangers for Shinkenger if that ever comes to pass down the road. Or if they pulled a Jiraya and had Japanese-Americans (or Japanese people living in other countries) as the Rangers.

For the second one, wasn't geki ranger the chinese zodiac essentially? (i know it was the villains but still...)

It only was for the Genki/GenjJyuKen powered villians, sort of, but I still like the idea of an actual ranger team that each represent one of the animals of that zodiac. Blame it on my love of the 12 talismans from Jackie Chan Adventures. lol

There are shows in sentai already showing that it isn't that strange sounding.

Gaoranger: had a variety of unusual animals that were used for alternate combos; they never had all of them combine together for a mother-of-all-combos mecha combo; I believe a sort of boar was listed on the official 100 power animals list that finally named all the other power animals never shown/used in the show.

Hurricanger: had various extra weapons, including a hammer of a ram.

Gekiranger: also had unusual animals - a penguin and a gazelle.

A kung fu five styles theme: tiger, mantis, spider, monkey, crane(like in kung fu panda XD)

True, but they could have different colours from the traditional blue they always get, so a Red Shark, Green Whale, Yellow Dolpin, etc..

a proper elemental style season based on fire (red), water (blue), wind (yellow), earth (green), light (white) and dark (black) set in a fantasy/medival final fantasy old school style of story. evil is threatining the land and four brave warriors take up elemental powers to put a stop to this evil.

On the original topic, what about time travel? Timeranger didn't exploit the idea to it's full potential (being in the year 2000 most of the time), so I see no reason why they can't do it again. It could be called Chronoranger. Come to think of it, that's something else where they can get ideas from Doctor Who! :lol:

Super Hero Sentai, again not sure if its been done, actually that could be kinda lame

Military Sentai, heavy on the Guns and Weaponry I know its a kids show

Rescue Force was 9 years after GoGoV, after all. Both are based on rescue teams. A decade is a long enough gap to avoid being labelled a copycat I reckon.

I've always thought that an ocean team would've been cool. Especially since there are (traditionally) Seven Seas.
But any mythological gods as a team would be cool. Whether it be Norse, Greek/Roman, Egyptian, Aztec, etc. Any would be cool.
A strictly musical based team would be sweet too. Along the lines of KR Hibiki but sentai.

I've always thought that a team based on natural disasters would be cool. I know that sounds a little similar to Rescue Force, but it'd be cool in sentai. You'd have senshi for tsunamis, earthquakes, tornados, droughts, volcanic eruptions, wildfires, hurricanes. I think that'd be cool.

They haven't been done a season about the Rangers who have an Insect power...
and because there're 2 seasons about the ninja rangers, and one about the samurai rangers... I would expect for the Crusader rangers, something like that :D
as for natural disasters... it would be really cool :)

Hurricanger had two rangers with an insect motif. In PR Ninja Storm, they were the Thunder Rangers. The B-Fighter series in Metal Heroes (adapted as Beetleborgs) and most of the Kamen Riders also have bug motifs, which is probably why Sentai hasn't done a full team with an insect theme.

A Cryptid theme:Ranger based on bigfoot,mothman and such.......and a lochness carrier zord!....................time ago i went off with a fic with paranormal-occult detectives rangers,like hellboy........a west zodiac theme like saint seya....a preistoric mammal theme,not dinosaurs but mammoth,smilodon(besides they were already done),glyptodon,silvaroo and so on
