View Full Version : From the Saban Toei Contracts - New Machiko Soga Footage Filmed for Early MMPR S1

This is taken from the same SEC Document as the "Exclusive Option Period." Saban asked Toei for additional scenes with Machiko Soga for Rita Repulsa and her sidekicks. Also note that the "Megaman" in this agreement does not refer to Capcom's famous blue robot of video games, but rather the Metal Heroes series Metalder. You can view it here (http://www.secinfo.com/dSq2u.759.15.htm).

Aaaaaaand now we have the paperwork for Zyu 1.5. Seriously, this is absolutely fascinating reading.

This makes me wonder if the majority of Dairanger monsters were simply destroyed while still in Japan. Besides the monsters we saw in MMPRS2 US Footage, absolutely nothing has been shown of the ones left out. No still photographs, no footage that isn't Sentai footage, they don't even appear in the Jeff Pruitt home video leaks!

There were plans to adapt Metlader into Cybertron the very same time preproduction for MMPR started? Wow.

didn't Haim and Shuki want to adapt one of the Metal Hero shows from the beginning and the success of MMPR gave them the clout they needed to get it approved or something

Why is Metalder referred to as Megaman? If you hadn't said, I might've thought they were referring to the video game character, although he's called Rock Man in Japan.

Actually, two of them do. Pot Taoist (or Party Crasher, if you will) and Kamikaze Boss were both caught on Pruitt-cam.

I assume it's Megaman for the same reason Zyuranger is Galaxy Ranger.

The Morphylogeny one?

Yes. I was the first person to denote the fact there was Rita and company footage using Soga and friends, on the Toei sets, in my research of doing Morphylogeny as of last month. Since then a few people have said, "Oh I thought there was some stuff in it that wasn't from Zyu", but as long as I've been in the fandom, nobody's ever said anything. All these fans of Zyuranger online, they must all hate MMPR to the point they didn't take the time to realize they don't recognize this stuff. Anyway, Tyler Waldman recently asked Tony Oliver about it, and he confirmed it was specially shot for the show, stuff of Rita speaking English. I'd seen a note in a script mentioning "the stuff we shot of Rita speaking English", and it appears the Saban team did go over and film this stuff themselves.

(I list it on Morphylogeny as "Original Zyu Footage", or "Zyu Original Footage". But people are calling it Zyu1.5, since it's after Zyu was finished, but before they did work on the Zyu2 stuff).

This makes me wonder if the majority of Dairanger monsters were simply destroyed while still in Japan.

Some have posited that many of the Dai suits were junked because Saban originally had the "Zyu3" stuff in the works, and didn't seem to be intent on adapting Dai. They then changed their minds, but it was a little too late for some of them. It does make me wonder why none of the Dai monsters we DID get, weren't still around after season 2. Repellator was it, and there are no Dai suits at all in CTD!

Why is Metalder referred to as Megaman?

Because he's a super fighting robot.

I thought "Zyu3" was all on the Toei side of things thinking Saban was going to request it.

I am further bothered they didn't use Kamikaze & Doom Stone's Dai episode then. It would have given Mega Tigerzord another Zord fight!

If it got to concept art, one presumes they had negotiated it to some extent.

Again, I was told that Toei was designing the "Dino Mega Tigerzord" assuming Saban was gonna go ahead and order a "Zyu3."

I really don't think MMPR Productions went "Hey Toei, make us a Zyu3!" Then a month later go "Never mind, we'll do Dairanger!" Zyu2 already costed Saban an arm and a leg, and it was only done because there was no other option to keep MMPR alive.

Cmdr Crayfish

You don't design concept art for new toys unless you have some implication that Bandai US, at least, wants to spend money making the damn things. Even concept art is seeped on the idea of "we might well be doing this, so be prepared." Of course I doubt Saban commissioned it, but I'm confident both parties at least hashed the idea out in some manner during Zyu2/Kakuranger production.

ForeverRanger

They would have had to redone the suits for the Dinozords and Tigerzords or they would have been toy exclusives. Is that the assumption?

Speedbreaker
02-20-2010, 10:41 PM
They would've done all-new footage with new Megazord suits, yes. That's why Saban changed their minds - it nearly bankrupted them paying Toei to film new mech battles with the original Megazord suits. Imagine how much paying for that with brand new Zord suits/props would cost.

I like the Thunder Megazord Design, it was close enough to the Dino Megazord that it looked like an Upgrade anyway

Captain Platypus
02-21-2010, 05:52 AM
Except the other zords weren't parts of the megazord, they were just armor. For the reboot thread, i'm fighting my instinct to say that we should scrap the thunder megazord and just have the tiger, firebird, tor, and dragon as transforming, non- combining zords that the rangers pilot for various combat types

Churly

I disagree that the Thunder Megazord looked like an upgraded Dino Megazord, except for the feet being matching colors. The Thunder Zords were only an upgrade in name anyway. The Triceratops had a laser cannon and grappling hooks, while the Unicorn just threw rocks... lame huh?

Where's the Zyu3 concept art these days? IIRC it was on SuperSentai but I can't find it there now.

I strangely didn't realize there was a Zyu3 Titanus.

Cmdr Crayfish
02-21-2010, 05:10 PM
Those were conceptual designs for season three's Titanus reissue. There were also designs for the Serpentera toy, RMAV, and Titanium Land Crawler in the same book. Hence why I'm confident that Zyu3 was at least hashed out by Bandai US with Plex.

What is Galaxy Ranger? Is it just some weird name for Zyuranger? If you look at the credits of an MMPR episode it also lists it in the credits too, but during season 2 Dairanger is spelled normally.

That Galaxy Ranger thing always confused me before I found out about Sentai. It certainly wasn't anything like The Adventures of the Galaxy Rangers (a cartoon), which I have a VHS of, lol.
