View Full Version : Any reason they redesigned Elgar and Rygog's costume from their sentai counterparts?

The american costumes looked nothing like their sentai counterparts and sentai footage of them always really stood out.
For reference

Japanese Elgar and Rygog: http://www.supersentai.com/database/1996_carranger/villains.html

I suppose they wanted Elgar to be a comic relief but that wouldn't work out with such bleak eyes.
I wasn't aware Rygog was changed and frankly, I can't notice any differences...

Because those costumes looked terrible and there was no way they were using something so inexpressive for a feature film.

That's also why Porto debuted in Shift Into Turbo instead of the movie, right?

I was gonna say I think the Zelmodda suit looks better than the Elgar suit, but then I read the rest of your post.

I guess so. I don't think the Finster-type villains are a necessity for feature films, either.

Elgar always looked like he suffered a stroke whenever he appeared in Carranger footage.

Its rather noticable to me especially when watching an episode of Turbo that uses Sentai footage of Rygog. But Elgar is definitely far more obvious.

Japanese Elgar makes me want to piss my pants

I figured it had something to do with the movie. I just wasn't sure if they hated the sentai costumes and wanted to make use of the budget or if something happened to the sentai costumes to make them unusable.

Didn't Elgar have either three or four different heads (the Japanese one, the movie one, and either one or two more that popped up between Turbo and Space) in total?

Well they use in some episodes the footage of the Elgar and Rygog of the sentai but i think they just use in two episodes.
