I got on well with Rod, and all the cast and crew.
I would say that it was easily the most pleasant experience I've had on any film or TV shoot I've been involved with..it was a real pleasure going to work every day.

What was it like working with the cast members from previous seasons. I gotta say it was the 'butteriest' episode I've seen in quite awhile!
And what's it like knowing if it wasn't for you...the Rangers would probably never eat or drink or be saved so many times. The Rangers are slackers compared to you. lol Seriously. How many of the guy rangers can claim they dressed up in drag to save another ranger? :p

You may be aware that Power Rangers is not screened in N.Z. - odd eh?? I used to watch the show many years ago when my children were young - but since then....! So I had no knowledge of the season Bridge was in. All was explained to me, however - so the joke was maintained.

A diet of un-sweetened Lemonade, Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwiches and 'Buttery' toast??? Not a Superhero's diet in my opinion!!

Well! When we were filming the scene with me driving the golf cart!!! Rhoda had a photo taken of her stabbing me in the back with a pair of scissors!! I didn't know until a couple of days later - when a copy of the pic turned up on my make-up mirror!!!!!!
Now remember!! You mustn't tell a soul - you promised!!:D

David what was the most funny moment on set?
Just a wee private moment: One day, when we were in the 'Command Centre' set - three of us 'more mature' gents needed a wee rest..so we sat down on the floor. Somebody had a camera, and wanted to take a photo. I suggested the 3 wise monkeys - so we adopted suitable poses. When the photo appeared: Me (actor?) speak no evil, Corrin (sound) hear no evil, PJ (camera) see no evil - honestly! it just happened - no collusion.

So you save the Rangers a lot. You save your bosses butt a lot.
So what was your pay by your boss for doing all that hard work (you know, the stuff the Rangers shoulda been doing) and looking all sexy in that dress? LOL your boss seemed like a real slave driver while he sat back at the mansion and you went out and frequently saved the Rangers behinds. And did you get hazard pay for the job? ;)

If I may ask a question how many days did you work on the set and how long was it in hair and make-up?
At the start of filming about 4 days a week. As the series progressed it went down to 2 - 3 days. At the start there was a need to establish characters - later the focus was more on the Rangers and the Villains - which is what the show's about.
Hair and make-up?? 20 - 30 minutes.

'Hate'? - end of the season...having to say 'goodbye'.

Hello Mr. Weatherley, im glad to see you here. You are one of the many reasons to watch Operation Overdrive. How hard was it to get the role of Spencer?
Basically I auditioned among many others.
I belong to an 'English' Masonic Lodge...their dress is 'Half Morning-Suit'. I wore mine to the audition and had to explain 'Half Morning' and 'English' Lodge, as well as do the audition itself. The audition went very well - I even made the camera operator laugh (no mean feat in an 'audition' situation). After a number of weeks I was contracted.
My costume was 'Half Morning-Suit'....apart from the 'dresses'!!!

Not really - just trying to get the 'butteriest' right!!
Throughout the season you've dressed up as quite a few characters. Penelope, a princess, a Jamaican, and so on. Which was your favorite?

08-19-2007, 08:52 PM
In the scenes where the Rangers call for the Zords, I always thought it'd be funny if it went like this.
Mack, "Spencer, send the Zords"
Spencer responds over the Overdrive Tracker, "You could say please, you know".
Good Lord!!! That'd be treason!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

08-19-2007, 09:25 PM
How hard was it keeping a straight face during the scenes where you were disguised? My fave was the Islander btw. lol
When we were filming 'Lady Penelope's' departure - the director suggested 'I' should have a problem with my corset!!! I did and tugged at it when tottering away on my heels - trouble was I also tugged at my skirt, which promptly fell around my ankles and nearly tripped me up. That was 'difficult'!!!
Mandy Bergstrom

If I may ask again...what was it like to do the voice of Benglo one of the Fearcats?? and how long did it take in the recording studio to the voice.
Prior to the commencement of each 'block' of 3 or 4 episodes we had a cast 'read through' - if any character was not present, one of us would jump in and read for them - I did for Benglo. I've done a fair bit of this sort of work and tried to do a nasty cat-like voice. Bruce liked it and I was contracted.
In the studio it didn't take long. I don't wish to sound like an egotist, but I have done a lot of 'post-production' work and enjoy it - regarding it as 'vocal exercises'.

BUT!! I crashed a motorcycle which ended that idea.
I was 'conned' by my Mother into attending a play-reading (The Crucible) and that was that....here I am, 45+ years later......!!!???

That's so amazing, all those plays and more. I loved the character Mercutio in Romeo and Juliet.
It's reputed to be the best part he ever wrote - which is why he was killed off so early!!! - makes sense!

Favourites??: Hard!! But...Mercutio and Henry V.

Now, Romeo and Juliet was considered to be a love story, but when I read last year in Freshman year of high school, my English teacher told me it was more of a tragedy than a love story. And she said it became a tragedy when Mercutio died. So, seeing that you actually played this character, and lived in that environment of the play, what is Romeo and Juliet exactly, a love story, or a tragedy?

It IS a love story!!
But in theatrical terms it is also a tragedy.
A tragedy by definition is a story, where from a certain point the 'Tragic' outcome is inevitable (I forget!!: Either 1/3 or 2/3 into the plot). It's the 'inevitability' which makes it tragic - nothing can stop the denoument.
From memory it is agreed that with R&J it's the death of Mercutio, which tends to support 1/3 into the plot.)
I'm quite willing to be corrected...my memory is a bit rusty!!

The absolute glory of Shakespeare is the universality of the themes.
It doesn't seem to matter how one dresses or locates the production (quite often superfluous)- the truth of his observations of the human condition are revealed in minutest detail.
What modern playwright could stand such scrutiny???

Mr. Weatherley May I ask a question? (after that one of course. sorry but I live with a father who pulls that "You just did" stuff every time I say May I ask a question.)
Yes of course.
I have to sympathise with your father to some extent.
Many years ago I realised that I was saying: 'Not Now' and I'm Busy' and 'Later' to my children. One day it struck me what I was doing, and vowed from then on if they asked me a question I would always answer them, and if they wanted me to do something the answer would be 'Yes', unless I really couldn't do it. This applies now..My son is 21 and my daughter 20.
The latter part of your question??? I have no idea - sorry. I have only seen the first two episodes - PR is not shown in NZ - so have no idea about the music...I haven't heard it.

Many types...very eclectic tastes. Probably favour 'classical' music: the usual Masters but also Gorecki, Paart, Bruckner. Jazz. 'World'. Even Johnny Cash!

I've been based in NZ since 1961. I've worked overseas quite a bit, but always regard Auckland as my home.
I see you're from BC??? Are you still at University?
My ex did her BA at Simon Fraser.
I remember the Army Camps at Chilliwack and Vernon very well...are you anywhere near them?
Since PR I've been in a short movie and a 2 hour docu-drama for one of our TV stations.
I auditioned for an animated TV series and have been cast as: Narrator - an 80yo Samurai Master - and Stone Fang! The villain. I hope it gets the green light.

I was at Simon Fraser last year, but I'm taking the next year off. I can't afford to go back right now so I'm going to earn some money instead. The last thing I want is to start my life out with a pile of debts.
You went to Army Camp?

Mr Weatherley, as a long time fan of Power Rangers and its Japanese counterpart from the UK [Liverpool, to be precise!:)], may I say that it's a honour and a pleasure to have you answer questions from the fans and I know this sounds silly but I'd say that you and Dax are definitely the funniest characters [in a good way, I might add!:)] that the show has had in a long time since the days of Bulk and Skull!
In fact, that's one of the main reasons why I look forward to each episode of OO besides Rose [who I think makes a good Pink Ranger and may I be allowed to confess is very cute as well...] and Will who ties with Adam and Zack for the best Black Ranger ever, it's because I know that I'll always get to laugh my head off at least once in most of the episodes at the antics that you and Dax get up to even if they only just started showing it recently on Jetix UK [it got delayed by a week because of a certain book release involving a certain bispectacled wizard! *laugh*].
Anyway, my question is this: If you or any of the Operation Overdrive cast ever got invited to an event in the UK like the London MCM Expo (http://www.londonexpo.com) which is a event where guests from TV shows and movies like Lord of the Rings, 24, Friday the 13th, CSI, Stargate: SG1, Naruto and Full Metal Alchemist [the English dub in the case of the last two examples], would you attend?

Mr Weatherley, it's good to know that you'd be interested in attending a event like the MCM Expo as it's one of the biggest events of its kind in Europe and they've even had fans who've dressed up as various Rangers a few times now.
As for a book involving a certain wizard, it's quite a good read so far and I can see why Jetix UK delayed OO's premiere as it was meant to be on the same day as the release of said book...

No. I'm very aware of my limitations. I have a certain skill at interpreting someone else's writing, but little skill at writing itself.
I have been so busy acting -[ at one stage, while at a theatre in Auckland I was in 35 major productions in 3 years] - I had little time to even think about writing, or anything else for that matter.

I've noticed many actors have compared their auditions to being on a rollercoaster. Do you agree or disagree with this comparison?
I agree in many respects.
Most of the time you try to figure out what the director really wants - tricky!!!! Some directors are too clever for their own good.
Many times you're working through a casting director - so quite often you're given incorrect information.
I much prefer it when the Director is present at the audition.
Also, if there are other characters involved in the scene you quite often end up reading opposite only one person who may be the wrong sex and age - great demands on top of those of the actual script.

So if Spencer decided to dress up as one of the Rangers and take Flurious on, how much butt would he kick?
NOTE: I am the self-proclaimed Queen of Random and since I already asked all the serious stuff at your Rangerboard thread (I'm the one who mentioned Canada - The Leader In Red is my username over there) I'm just gonna post fun stuff to chat about.
PS. The offer still stands - if you ever drop by Toronto, I would love to buy you a drink so you could tell me some awesome stories.

That's true. You did do a lot more scenes with Rod and James.
Has their ever been a costume you flat out disliked wearing?
In Power Rangers???? No, not at all.
Other things??? Oh yes! I was in a NZ play set in Wellington in the 1950's. I had to wear a bright irridescent lime green suit - badly made and a terrible colour..made absolutely no sense whatever and made me feel idiotic. Mind you: the whole play was idiotic, and it was meant to be a serious
adaptation of a Chekov story.

When I worked at Expo70 in Japan, the NZ Pavilion was built over a swamp (literally!) and full of mosquitos. The caretaker - a very laconic Kiwi offered to buy the building at the end so he could "blow the bastard up!!" Didn't happen!! No sense of humour, some people!!

What got you into acting specificly, were you studying it in school and if so did you go to a school for the Performing arts?

It's a nice 'paternal' feel to be honest. Don't forget, I'm employed as butler by Mr.Hartford to look after him and his son Mack...but there is more to it than just master/servant.
I see... thank you very much...
Here's my another question
Can you give me a little scoop about the ending of PROO if that's okay with you

Very unusual journey!!
I was in the Canadian Army - left to join the NZ Army in '61.
Shortly after arriving here I crashed a BSA 650 very badly - so unfit for the Army.
Started working in offices....boring!!!
As a form of therapy I joined an amateur theatre company (The Crucible).
I seemed to be good at it...got offers of Radio Drama, commercial voice work, children's TV, etc etc. Then in 1964 I got an offer from a professional Theatre Company in Wellington NZ....I haven't stopped since.
No interest at school - no Drama school.
By the way!!! : I used to work for TNT Sec. and CBS Sec. in Sydney.

A little secret!! There was a suggestion at the beginning of the season that there was rumour of a very slight possibility that I might become a Ranger.
I think I caused a bit of a problem: I insisted I wanted to be the first 'Tartan' Ranger. The problem was: the availability - or lack of - Tartan Spandex!!!
The world will never know what they missed!!!

I didn't mean it as self-deprecation...just a thought - a rationalisation if you like.
I was once asked by a PR fan what I thought of older (he was 28) fans. My immediate reaction was: 'Get a life!!' But then I thought: I'm 68 and I collect toy soldiers!!! Who am I to criticise??? We're all different! - Thank God!!

Just a wee one to satisfy your rather strange desire.
I used to be very frightened of the dark! Sounds fairly normal??
Remember, I was born before WW2 - my father was away in the RAF. My Gran used to visit my Mum at night sometimes, and Mum would walk her to catch her bus home, leaving me alone. One night I was woken by the air raid warning sirens - no Mum - utter panic - I was out on the street in the blackout, screaming.
I still don't like the dark much.

I can still remember the first stanza of the Prologue to Chaucer's Canterbury Tales in Middle English - that was a favourite.
Wilfred Owens': "Sit on the bed..I'm blind and three parts shell"
Robbie Burns': "A man's a man for a' that"
