Pros: It doesn't appear to have any adverse effect on Pikachu like Volt Tackle did.
Cons: It doesn't appear to have that same pure power that Volt Tackle does and that Electro Ball "should be" based on how much faster Pikachu is than his opponent. Yes, it is generally understood that the anime doesn't always stick to the game rules, but as of now, I can't picture Electro Ball as a definite finisher.

Thanks. And Mr White, you're right. In the games, Kanto, Johto, Hoenn and Sinnoh are all expies for parts of Japan. Unova though, is an expy for America. That likely holds true for the anime.

When ever Ash goes into a new region it seems like pikachu's power decreases big time. Pikachu should be around level 80 or something and he has so much trouble. I have been so happy with the way Team Rocket has finally been winning after all these years. In fact the way Team Rocket is up against Team Plasma reminds me of my own made up region's conflict between Team Rocket and a made up group called Team Comet who want to turn all of humanity into pokemon.

@White - They still have plenty of time. They haven't gone full out Kanto-Sinnoh yet. And as for Pikachu, it's been the same pattern for a while now. He gets nerfed and at the beginning of the saga, he's getting smacked around by rookies and by the end of the saga, he's KO'ing legendaries. Odds are that will not change if he and Ash are there past Unova.

@Sirgreen - You should be used to it by now lol. By the 7th-8th badge, he'll be knocking out legends and fully evolved opponents.

No. In the beginning he was hit by a legendary's lightning, not once but twice. The first time took away electric moves completely. The second time restored them but also decreased his lvl to around 5.

Sorry but Psyduck was mostly useless it had a headache. Oshowatt lacks that problem and has enough power. It's personality is more like a even mix of all three of Ash's Johto starters.

Hell, you don't need to be in the same country anymore, I don't see why, once Nintendo has the Wii U and their MUCH improved online service, they can't do it like that, they could still do the different colors at launch. I'd even go as far as to say on the home console, start over in the Kanto Region. Redesign it though.

I'd say have it make you start in the first region and build up from there, when you get to the new region you are forced to put the current pokemon in the storage system until a certain city in that region.

These games just had a good balance of every thing, decent ideas for each monster, the fact that the game you got determines which branch of team rocket you fight, either Aqua or Magma, the tasks to get the three regis was pretty cool. And, it wasn't completely overwhelming like it is now.

Aqua and Magma aren't a branch of Team Rocket. They're two separate syndicates.

From Red and Blue through Ruby and Sapphire, which Pokemon is your favorite?

I have two. The first is Bulbasaur, not it's evolved forms, but Bulbasaur itself. I just think Bulby, as I have it named on the game I used to have, just all around a great Pokemon, great and strong attacks. Great against many different types of Pokemon. From Sapphire it has to be Kyogre, some of the strongest attacks I have ever seen from any besides Psychic.

Charizard's good. Fire and Flying, so you don't have to waste a slot on a flyer - just give him Fly and three powerful single turn attacks. Another slot needs to be given to a water HM slave, but Surf is a really powerful move anyway, being able to hit both opponents in double battles. Gyarados fits the bill for this, Magikarp are easy to catch and Exp Share means you can level it without worrying about it's early inability to attack (it's useless as Magikarp, but great once it evolves and you get the water type HMs - and in Johto, you can just send the Magikarp straight to Bill, because you get a shiny Gyarados in the plot).

Migikarp is the biggest slap in the face of all the pokemon, because first you have this fish that does nothing but flop around until level 15 when it does learn tackle, whoopie! but when it evolves it becomes this huge dragon type pokemon.

Pokémon Black & White - Japanese Shaymin Event

For those of you in Japan, or with friends in Japan, there is to be a special event in the Pokémon Centre next month. In addition to the Snivy event going on, they will be giving away the Gratitude Pokémon; Shaymin as a thank you for the calendar year in Pokémon Centres. Full details of this Shaymin are not yet known but it will be changeable into its Sky Forme by getting the Gracidea in Lacunosa Town. The distribution runs from December 19th to January 5th and, if you have it in Sky Forme and show it to staff at the stores from January 1st to January 15th, you will get a thank you card. We'll bring more details of this event as they come

Japan's got a Wifi Event that's of great use right now. Until January 10th, 2012, you can download Tornadus for Pokémon White & Thundurus for Pokémon Black. This event is to celebrate the recent two-part episode where the two Pokémon & Landorus appeared. With these downloads, you can gain access to Landorus without having to transfer one of them to the opposite game and back.

It's usually impossible, due to event mons and the requirement for friends to sacrifice their version-exclusive legendaries (you can get the starters through breeding, so your friends don't need to sacrifice them, although, you do need to trade with more than one person. Legendaries are sexless and so cannot be bred).

Starter Breeding is how I got the other two Starters in my White Game.

It's usually impossible, due to event mons and the requirement for friends to sacrifice their version-exclusive legendaries (you can get the starters through breeding, so your friends don't need to sacrifice them, although, you do need to trade with more than one person. Legendaries are sexless and so cannot be bred).

Of course, there's also the GTS/Global Terminal for Generations IV and V.

And when trading with friends, you can send their Pokémon back. Especially if it's Machamp, Golem, Escavalier, Accelgor, Gigalith & Conkeldur.

Of course it's from using Game shark, but I have completed the pokedex twice. Once on Blue and once Sapphire. After that I just quit buying them, they're the same games each time and the monsters have gotten just plain stupid looking.

I'm currently trying to have info on either 99 or 100 Pokémon before I take on the Elite Four and catch Reshiram. I currently have 90 thanks to a newly hatched female Larvesta named Kaen.

And when trading with friends, you can send their Pokémon back. Especially if it's Machamp, Golem, Escavalier, Accelgor, Gigalith & Conkeldur.Trade evolutions, of course. There's more, such as Steelix. Gen 1 doesn't have breeding, so in those games, the starters must be traded (and then sent back if need be, I can't see anyone being willing to sacrifice the starter) as you can't get a duplicate.

Using gold and silver, you can clone pokemon. You would have to use the time machine to get them there and back to g1. However Then there's the risk of disappearing pokemon from your boxes. No one hardly talks about it, but every time you do the cloning trick, there is an increasing risk of the pokemon files in the boxes being slightly corrupted. The game fixes those slightly corrupted pokemon by deleting them.

I almost did it in the original blue version. I got 150 pokemon, but my 150th was Mew, instead of Kangaskhan, which I was never able to get.
It's rare, and only appears in the Safari Zone.

There is an easy way to get Kangaskhan. When you do the rare candy glitch, if the Missingno is at lvl 0 catch it (on blue the only thing it will do is mess up the pictures in the hall of fame and pokedex) and level it up to one, for some reason it will evolve into a Kangaskhan. Beats going to the Safari Zone.

In the past, I nicknamed my Pokemon after whatever I liked. Now I strictly nickname Shinies, going from things that sound cool ("Starfire" for a Shiny Ponyta that's now a Rapidash, caught in "Platinum"--and it was a random encounter Shiny, to boot!) to references (don't ask why I nicknamed a Shiny Electrike/Manectric "Linkara"; at least my Shiny Dustox nicknamed "Jessie" had a better excuse), and the meaningful names--from personality-fitting names ("Joy" for Shiny Chansey/Blissey, though it also falls under references; "Lucky" for Shiny Togepi/Togetic/Togekiss) to the cutesy pet names ("Volty" for Pichu, for starters).

The exceptions are a few like Serperior ("Smugleaf") and a certain Pokemon that evolves after Yamask ("Woobie", only because it so fits Yamask, poor thing!).

I normally come up with unique names except Generation III games. Like I named Empoleon "Blaster", Staraptor "Quantum", Samurott "Roscher II", Feraligatr "Rotweiser", Ampharos "Cannister", Ferrothorn "Roryker", and Mienshao "M-K". But there are some I named after tv: Luxray "Vegeta" (because of the hair in its final evolution), Togekiss "Misty", Pikachu "Ash", Meowth "Jessie" or "James", and Espeon "Mikey". Sometimes I put them by given names or after famous people: Floatzel "Chester", Simisear "Louie", Charmander "Christian", and Pachirisu "Earnhardt".

Or the Japanese word for what type of creature they're based on. Like my male Frillish. He's named Kurage. Others are given random names or something that fits them. Like Zeke, Dark Claw, etc.

I have had this happen to me already. I hope you saved it in either the main hall or the pokemon center. Other wise you'll have to start over. This glitch can happen every even numbered match with the Alder.

Today in Japan, Junichi Masuda revealed in the Pokémon Centre in Fukuoka that there is to be an upcoming Pikachu event. This event is to tie in with the new bullet train in Japan in Kyushu Shinkansen. This Pikachu, to go with the concept of the bullet train, is to know the special move; Extremespeed. The title shots have a red or ruby color behind one of them and blue or sapphire color behind the other. Some fans believe this to mean they are a split 3rd game that changes directions after the Unova elite 4.

That you get to visit a different version of Hoenn based on what version you have purchased. A Hoenn with a land/mountain themed city for one and a sea/ocean themed for the other.

Personally I find it hard to believe. It would be awesome if they did do it though.

Hello, I go by ganondolphin, an old user-name I created back in the early 2000s based off the old Gamecube trailer shown featuring Link fighting Ganondorf, mixed with the codename of the Gamecube, Dolphin. Just thought I'd explain the weird nickname.

Anyway, my connection to Nintendo is not limited to my name only, as I actually have connections inside the company due to my involvement with various Nintendo-sponsored publications, and actually have come across information regarding the upcoming Pokemon Black 2 and White 2, information that is quite surprising and possibly the biggest news involving the sequel. This information is planned to be published in the next CoroCoro as the "big scoop", and I have received descriptions, but no pictures, of what this news entails. All this information will be revealed in CoroCoro, but other sources may perhaps reveal it beforehand, such as the Pokemon Smash program. I have not seen this information first-hand, but have been corresponding with friends in other parts of the franchise, including some who are involved with the Japanese side of the franchise, so the information I have is second-hand, so not everything will be entirely accurate as some details may have been skipped over. Furthermore, I cannot reveal concrete info such as actual names of new Pokemon and characters appearing in the sequel but can reveal basic descriptions and general information.

So, what is this big news? Well, it turns out that, since Pokemon Black 2 and White 2 is the franchise's first official numerical sequel, just as Gold and Silver was originally planned as, it will, for the first time ever, be introducing completely brand new Pokemon to the franchise alongside the return of the Unova Pokemon. These Pokemon will apparently still be considered "Generation 5" Pokemon, although they will not be compatible with Black and White, akin to how RBY and GSC could link, but the new Pokemon could not be transferred. There are ten Pokemon set to be revealed this month, including a new set of Starters, with more apparently on the way, although no exact number is known to any of my correspondents. Some of them speculate that it will be around 50 or so, but will not be as many as a full generation, so probably not over 100.

Furthermore, I have also obtained preliminary information pertaining to the plot, setting, and characters as well that will be featured in Black 2 and White 2.

Here is a bullet-point summary of the general information CoroCoro is set to contain this month:

* A second set of Starter Pokemon will be making their debut in Black 2 and White, and will still be the traditional Grass/Fire/Water triad. The Grass Pokemon is a bird, pure Grass, like Piplup and Torchic. Resembles an owl with a flower on head, needle eyebrows, and cactus wings. Seems to be based off the owls that live in cacti. The Fire Pokemon is a little orange elephant, different body design from Phanpy, rounder. Flame pattern on inside of ears--reference to the use of ears to regulate heat? Holes where its tusk would be. I assume, like Chimchar, fire comes out when it battles. Water Pokemon is a platypus, very playful in its design. Beaver-tail is large and looks like a surf-board, with a v-cut at the end. Magazine makes a note about the Starter Pokemon being "imported", not sure what it means by this. Related to the region, I speculate.

* Two new Pokemon related to Unova Pokemon are revealed. First is pre-evolution of Heatmor, Normal, lacks the mechanical features of the former. Resembles a tea-kettle. Learns Scald as a move its evolution does not. No info given on how it evolves, but hints at Durant being involved. Second is an evolution of Swoobat, seems to be a reference to Crobat, very-feminine appearance, succubus like. Same type as Swoobat. No evolution method given yet. Hints at other pre-evolutions and evolutions appearing, but seems to specify only Unova Pokemon receiving them.

* Two version-exclusive counterparts. Pure Steel Pokemon, Black 2 exclusive apparently, a knight wearing a thimble with tiny needle swords. Pure Rock Pokemon, White 2 exclusive, human-shaped Smoochum-looking. Has a crown and brooch made of rock. Knight and maiden-themed duo.

* Pure-Ghost, possibly a new Gastly like Timburr/Machop and Roggenrola/Geodude. Classic cartoon ghost wearing a sheet. Sheet is cut into giving it the appearance of a tuxedo. Very classy looking and cute with a little bow-tie. Dragon/Fighting Pokemon, very fierce looking. Possibly a final form. Bipedal. Obvious Game of Death reference. Bug/Dark Pokemon. Looks bigger than a first form, but not final either. A cockroach. Its shell looks like a leather-jacket. Punk-inspired, it seems, 50s greaser as opposed to Scraggy's urban youth. Pose it's in is classic "crouched down" gangster. Very intimidating looking.


* No exact word given, but magazine seems to hint that none of the pre-Gen V Pokemon will appear once more during the main game. New Pokemon seem to be appearing alongside the Black and White Pokemon in the new region. Seems to be a nod to Gold and Silver containing a mix of Gen 1 and Gen 2.
*Pictures confirm Pokemon following you is back, but isn't elaborated on if there are any changes to it since HG/SS.

REGION
----------
* Completely new region, with an official artwork map shown. Seems to be a bit on the small side at a glance. There looks to be 10 towns. Mix of modern cities, lots of bridges once more, and old world castles. Looks classic Final Fantasy-inspired almost. Other notable features seen are a giant Gothic-building, possibly a church, an airport (flying to Unova?), an aboveground train-line featuring prominently on the map, a shipyard, and a giant castle sitting on an island, surrounded by sharp rocks and with a storm-cloud above it. There is also an ice island up in the far north. No word given, but the general shape of the region, the castles, and the theme of the Pokemon hints towards being inspired by the U.K., but seems like an amalgam of Western Europe.

* In-game screen-shots show the starting town, which is very classy and seems to feature a Pokemon academy. One screen-shot shows the player character standing at what appears to be a graduation ceremony in a large garden. Other screen shots show the player climbing the inside of a clock-tower, and little transparent sprites of the previously mentioned tuxedo-ghost are dancing around the screen, looks neat. The probably-church is also shown, with the player talking to a robed-man in front of it, as well as the shipyard, with the player walking around a puzzle created out of girders being hoisted by cranes (a Gym Puzzle?), and a shot of the player walking on the inside of the train, with the windows being open and showing off a pre-rendered grassy field.

* Region seems to be steeped in history, and said to be important to unlocking various mysteries of the Pokemon world and so-and-so. Strong connection to Unova is implied. Also hints at having more differences between versions when it comes to layout than Black and White did, but no examples given or noticeable on the map, perhaps there are two maps for each version and they just chose one for the magazine?

CHARACTERS

* Brand New Gym Leaders, four are shown, but not sure if they are in order. First Gym Leader is a repeat of the Straighton Trio, but female waitresses. Relation to them? They appear to use the original Unova Starters based on a screen-shot, like how the brothers used the monkeys. Second Gym Leader shown is a woman in a ringleader outfit, like a circus. No information given on type. Shows her in-game standing in a circus tent. Coloring on outfit, purple and yellow, seems like Psychic. Third Gym Leader resembles the cue-ball trainer class. Rides a motorcycle. Probably Poison, or perhaps first Dark Gym Leader? Fourth Gym Leader is a very classy looking young man holding a rapier. No clue what type he uses, Steel? Looks a bit like N, but with shorter hair. The magazine mentions the Unova Gym Leaders, and I think they're once more hinting the G/S-nature of the game. Maybe we'll fight them again?

* New Player Characters. Looks same age as Hilbert and Hilda. Blond boy, with newsboy cap. Ginger girl, with flapper hat. Both wear nice clothes, and the girl has jewelry, so they seem to be rich. One screen-shot shows them together (the graduation ceremony), so they both seem to factor into the plot. Rival Character is shown, also at the ceremony. He's another character with green hair, probably related to the green-haired Gym Leader? Artwork shows him yawning, and he seems to fall asleep during the graduation. New Professor, fat, balding man, looks like the Penguin. Focuses on exploring the relationship between the development of human culture alongside Pokemon. Owns an academy for upcoming trainers, which is where the beginning of the game takes place.

* N is shown, and they are strongly hinting that he'll definitely appear. Mentions the stinger ending of Black and White. The magazine also points out the green-hair trait of the rival and the Gym Leader, but doesn't say anything else. One screen shows the player battling a Seven Sage (not sure if it was one of the ones from Black and White), and the magazine mentions how you never fought them in BW. The cloudy castle seen on the map is used in the background of the page focusing on N, and an in game screen-shot shows the player standing in an old room inside. A beautiful woman who has N's hair is on a close-up of an old painting (very detailed) and there seems to be something extremely important about her.

* New Trainer Classes shown include a teenager in a black-white school uniform, a chic woman drinking coffee, and an actual mime trainer class. One sequence of screen-shots shows that even normal trainers have animated sprites, with the mime doing the "wall" motion with his hands.

That's all the main info my sources told me. There may be more they left out because they didn't think it was important, or their may be pages they have yet to see. All this info should be leaked any day now.

lol, BW was set in a faux-USA, and BW2 is set in a faux-UK? That's interesting, since the two cultures are very similar, but the UK obviously has more history (US only existing since the 18th Century, whereas England has existed since the 11th). Release dates have been revealed.


Online video game retailer Play-Asia had revealed the release dates for the upcoming sequel to the fifth generation Pokemon game, Pokemon Black Version 2 and White Version 2. The game will simultaneously be released in Japan and US this year.

The Japanese version of Pokemon Black 2 and Pokemon White 2 will be released on June 23rd while the North American release will be on October 2012.

HUGE BW2 UPDATE!

Some scans of next month's CoroCoro have surfaced, revealing some new characters, cities, and other things. Here are some of the notable items:


The player character lives in a city. Not a town, a city. Complete with a Pokemon Center, a Trainer's School, etc.
There will be a Poison-type gym for the first time since Kanto.
The game takes place two years after the events of Black and White.
The order of the Unova Pokedex has changed, even including Pokemon from the first four generations (Lapras, Larvitar line, Beldum line, Riolu line, just to name a few).

Pretty cool that every past Gym Leader and Champion will be appearing! I wonder if they'll use that in the anime, because it would be cool to see all of them return (or in the case of Janine, finally make an appearance).

Cheren's taking Lenora's place as Nacrene City's Gym Leader.
The Kami Trio (Thundurus, Landorus, and Tornadus) have been given new formes, called Reijuu, while their (physical) appearances in B/W have been retconned as their Keshin Formes.
Bianca is now Professor Juniper's assistant.
There will be a new feature called Pokewood, where the player can take part in filming Pokemon movies.


They also revealed a few details regarding the next season of the anime, most notably the returns of Dawn and Cynthia, and that Team Rocket is after Meloetta.

But it was actually an alternate evolution for the Oddish family (whose natural evolution is Gloom).

One thing Black and White lacks is an Eevee expy. We could do with one.

^Agreed! It would probably need to be on the Wii U though, instead of the 3DS, due to the size of the game world. Also, you'd probably have to have a system where you have to leave all your mons behind when going to a new region, then getting a new starter - after beating all the gym leaders (but not the Pokemon League), all your mons would be available for that region (similar to how Ash operates in the anime). The reason for the new starter each time is that otherwise, you could just use your Level 60 Squirtle (for example) to one-shot all of the first Hoenn gym leader's mons - even if it was a grass or elec type gym. Since the Elite Four and Champion have such high levels anyway, they'd still be a challenge. The order should probably be Kanto, Hoenn, Johto, Sinnoh, Unova, because of the timeframes each generation is set in (J and S are three years after K and H, and U is even later).

The requirement for game balancing is probably why an all region game has never been attempted since gen 2.

I've seen it about 5 times, and the cut scenes are pretty epic. Intense even, loved seeing all of the old Pokemons. Also hearing N and Chreen (sp) voice is pretty cool.
