Season Summary:
Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger is the sixteenth installment of the Super Sentai franchise. Zyuranger was a Sentai of a few firsts. It was the first Sentai to introduce the concept of sentient mechas. It was the first Sentai to have a seven piece gattai (the biggest gattai in Super Sentai at the time). It was the first Sentai to be written by Noboru Sugimura, who would go on to writer Dairanger, Kakuranger, and Ohranger, who took Sentai into a light-hearted and surrealistic direction. It was the first Sentai to have a team cannon finisher be created by the team’s personal weapons. And it was the first Sentai to introduce the concept of a regular Sixth Warrior in the form of Dragon Ranger, a concept that was briefly touched on in Maskman. Zyuranger is known for two things. The return of Legendary toku actress Machiko Soga playing the main villain Witch Bandora. And being the first Super Sentai series to be adapted in the US as the first season of Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers.

Five young warriors from an ancient civilization of Dinosaur-evolved Humans are awakened during the present day after 170 million years of suspended animation when their sworn enemy, Bandora the Witch, is inadvertently released from her magical container on Planet Nemesis by two astronauts. The five warriors, the Zyurangers, must summon the power of mechanical-looking deities known as Guardian Beasts, each modeled after a different prehistoric beast, in order to protect mankind from Bandora's evil forces. A sixth warrior, Burai the Dragon Ranger, later becomes involved with the conflict between the Zyurangers and Bandora's forces.

Under various circumstances, Super Sentai warriors who previously died in their series appear to still possess their powers in Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger. For example, in episode 18, Dragon Ranger returns in-suit to not only give Gai Ikari his Gokai Cellular, but to also unlock the Great Power of Zyuranger in the form of Gojyurex. Gojyurex was similar in build and design to Guardian Beast Tyrannosaurus.

It always bugged me that the Zyurangers are suppose to be these ancient warriors, yet they adapt to modern time waaaaay too quickly. Seriously, not only do they automatically know what a space shuttle is, but they know how to drive motorcycles? And just in the first episode? The hell?

I think once the novelty of OMG this is the Sentai that become the source footage for the first and most iconic Power Rangers and its a lot "darker" than Power Rangers too! wears off its becomes apparent how mediocre this show is. Aside from the fact that the plot makes just as much sense as the show that hacked it, the heroes are even more devoid of personality than the Power Rangers. At least the MMPR were defied by thin stereotypes of stock high school for kids shows. Zyurager had uh leader, serious guy, goofy guy, the other guy, and the chick. And pretty much every plot was; kid of the week has problems, Witch Bandora decides to do something bad to children, Zyuranger helps kids with problems, kid is happy; lather,rinse, repeat.

Then again maybe its because I'm not a Sentai fan, the only Sentai I could get into was Carranger and to some extent Dairanger.

Yes like certain Disney films, Zyurangers is salvaged by is far more interesting than its protoganist, villains.

Well even though I watched the first 4 episodes which were subbed by Elite-Justice at the time. I liked it... it was my first Sentai that I watched (or was it Go-onger? ... hmm) but yeah Yuuta (who played Geki) did Sailor Moon Musicals after Zyuranger. I found that interesting... I liked his hair back then as well then he cut it D<,

But other than that, I really liked the concept of "Ancient Warriors" forming a team. MMPR was wayyyy different but in the end we do have to thank both series.

Classic. It's a simple design, and the usage of the "power coin" on the belt was unusual in that it would actually serve a purpose when they combine the mechs. It wasn't until Shinkenger that something like this would be repeated with the hiden discs, followed by Goseiger's cards and Gokaiger's keys.

Red with green's shield is called ArmoredTyrannoRanger. It's the second power-up form in the franchise, after Fiveman's Fivetector armour.

I loved how Tottpatt was put to more use than he was in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. In one of the Zyuranger episodes I watched, he wanted to explore his inner vampire or something. I only remember Baboo coming to Earth once to put those drops into Kim and Billy's waters to make them punk.

Yeah, Baboo was, as the name suggests, a baboon instead of a vampire. They didn't adapt the episode you mention in a copy/paste manner. Tottpatt and the counterpart of Squatt also had human disguises, which Squatt and Baboo didn't have. Which makes Rita's line referring to Bulk and Skull as a "human Squatt and Baboo" even funnier! :)

I quite enjoy the characters in Zyuranger. They're a lot deeper than they appear to be. For example, Goushi is the serious guy mainly because his sister died from Bandora's goons right in front of his eyes. I would say that Boi is my favorite because he's very mature for his age and seems to genuinely care for other people. I also like that he tries to prove himself as a warrior to make up for his young age. I do think that the Zyurangers themselves are hard to grow accustomed to because their personalities are fleshed out mostly through focus episodes, so it takes a while to know them. And I think I'm one of the only Sentai fans that actually enjoyed the "Child of the Week" premise. I honestly thought there was a certain charm to it and some of the kids were a joy to watch rather than annoying brats (like the crazy little girl with the baseball bat LOL).

The Villans group is kind of Funny and the Married between Lamia an Grifforzar as cool moment and i really liked they have a son in the Finale !!!

Design-wise, I thougt the Bandora Gang were some of the best looking villains you could get in a Sentai. Character-wise, well... Bandora was fun to watch, thought that can be thanked by the magic of Machiko Soga. Didn't care much for Grifforzer, though I did wish the show focus abit more about his and Lamie's marriage. Didn't care that much for Totpat and Bukbak either, though I will admit I found some of their antics funny. And Pleperchaun? Well, I liked his snippy-ness, but that was it.

Had there been more focus on the Grifforzer/Lamie marriage, I wonder if MMPR would've been any different. Scorpina was often absent from the stock footage, due to scenes being used out of order.

They showed Barza in the Viewing Globe in Power Ranger Punks. When they needed the sginign squash, they showed "human zordon" fighting putties to get to it.

In the viewing globe, they showed sentasi footage quite a few times. When Pudgy Pig was eating all over town, that was Sentai footage.

I find the Shugozyus overrated. Two of them were blocks. And three of them just shoot generic lasers. You could replace one in one scene with another and nothing would changed. Also, some of Daizyujin's mecah battles were kinda repetitive.

Zyuranger really helped to revolutionize Sentai mecha into what it's become today. Great animal/Dino designs, multiple combinations, and the ultimate combination.

I hated how Mei's mecha was just thrown there in Tank mode and not even used in the combination with Dragon Caesar. I agree there was a lot of bricks, but they were better than some of their predecessor's mecha (im looking at you Blue Dolphin!)

Yeah, the tank was only usually seen briefly as they form the robo. The Zyu2 Megazord assembly footage actually skipped it completely, so I think they realised the Daizyujin formation sequence was over-long. They should've showcased the tank as a form more.

That how it was back in those days. Back then, Sixth Rangers were only reoccuring characters as oppose to being full time members of the team, so you would often have episodes were the Sixth would either only join at the end of the episode for the mecha battle, or just be absent all together. It wouldn't be until Dekaranger that the Sixth would be made a full time member of the team. But hey, at least you gotta give Zyu props were giving a reason why the Sixth wouldn't join them so often, unlike what Dai did with Kou.

Daizyuzin->my favourite megazord ever in power rangers. So weird seeing it as a god on zyuranger
Burai getting banished->that was cool moment. He tried to kill Bandora and take her place! (if I remember well)
Zyusouken->I love it, best weapon of all time. I even had is sms sound in my mobile. The song was in different tone in zyuranger comparing to mmpr's
Dragon Caesar->My favourite mecha ever because I was always a godzilla fan. So badass!!!

Yeah, MMPR used a shortened version of the Zyuranger dragon dagger music. The only other tune to be kept at all to my knowledge is the Wild Zords summoning tune.

Daizyuzin is my favorite Megazord as well,
Burai as banished as great moment and see him try to take is revenge as cool,
Zyusouken really great and i really enjoyed the song as well,
Dragon Caesar he is about the best Mecha in Zyuranger i really liked a lot of him.

Always liked "Dragonzord Fighting Mode". The finisher drills a hole right through the monster's belly! The main downside is that pink's mecha seems to always go missing when they use that combo. Gouryujin ended up inspiring Abarenoh and Gozyujin didn't it?

Oops sorry. Daizyujin's fall was a great moment as the return of it as well. Burai joining the team was my favourite moment of the show. Gouryujin was my favourite form as well. I agree about what James said

all this story annoyed me personally. I wish Burai could live with the others as long as he wanted. That's why I prefer mmpr over zyuranger and that explains why we saw Tommy coming at many episodes just for the fight with the monster

The Storyarc as cool but they really could develoment much more the way of everything is going in MMPR as much better but i really loved to see the Final Moments of Burai and even Dragon Caeser show aafection to the Burai in is Death moment.

What did you think of the death of Burai?

I personally didn't find Burai's death all that sad since he hadn't really done that much since his intro arc ended. Watching him die was about as sad as watching a MotD die. I will say though, Dragon Caesar crying over Burai's death gave it more gravita then the Zyurangers crying over Burai's death.

It as cool see Dragon Caaser with emotions in Burai Grave i really enjoyed that moment because i liked much when the Mechas show emotions and the Rangers have great bounds with there Mechas, i liked of that scenes when Burai scenes "The Death" and see the little kid because most of the arc as focus in that event something i dont liked much because the purpose as see Burai as be gone because when he as close to is final moment they repeated much that scene.

What did you think of Kai, the reveal that he was Bandora's son, and Dora Talos?That's the footage used for Doomsday isn't it, except MMPR had Goldar in the robo's cockpit instead of Kai. That was a great fight sequence. Haven't watched the Zyuranger episode yet though due to lack of subs.

Time to answer the rest questions since I finished watching the show resuming from 32st episode, where RRR had stopped until GUIS did it from scratch with proper subs


What did you think of the death of Burai?
I think it was cool they parallysed his death with the ill kid. It was sad they didn't make it in time to save him but at least they saved the kid. Generally it was really dramatic and well written. I was shocked to know that Burai had died before and returned to life with that elixir again in the past for other reason. So now it makes sense that he appeared in Super Sentai World. Clotho can bring him back every time it is really needed.


What did you think of Kai, the reveal that he was Bandora's son, and Dora Talos?
That was a big shock. I wasn't expecting to see Bandora having a son. Much more socking that his death was the reason she became a witch. Totally epic excuse to her hate in dinosaurs and kids of other people. Since she lost her kid because of the dinosaurs she doesn't want people to be happy with their kids. Wow so much hate. Dora Talos is one of the most awesome mecha I've ever seen.


What did you think of Bandora's backstory and Dai Satan?
Already said about her backstory, it was fantastic. As for Dai Satan well the parallelisms with god and devil were obvious and nice in this show.


What did you think of the finale?
It was simply perfect. The last 4 episodes were the best of the show and worth my 4 year waiting of seeing the rest show subbed


Do you have any regrets about what Zyuranger DIDNT do?
I didn't like that Burai couldn't be almost at all with the zyurangers apart from the battle. I wanted to see more of him with the others.

Yeah I do recommend it. It's very different than MMPR in many things. The monsters have very interesting mythology around them, The Evil Dragoranger episodes are even better than the "Green with Evil ones" and the story of Burai and Bandora are real gems. You loved MMPR? You wanted a final battle with Rita and never got one? Well this show is for you then. I would glady rewatch it

What did you think of the premise?

It was interisting. Not the best introduction but it was good.


What did you think of the suits?

They are simple but cool. They fit the themes and PteraRanger et TyrannoRanger's helmet are my favorites.


What did you think of the cast?

Mei was a great Pink senshi. For a princess she was a strong warrior. Burai was great as well. I liked his relation with Geki, the way he give him advice and his backstory was awesome. He became one of my favorite Green senshi. The others were likable but they don't really have something that make them different than a regular ranger IMO.


What did you think of the Bandora Gang?

Bandora is one of my favorite villain so far. That's what i call an Evil witch. And at least she did something instead of complaining during more than 100 episodes....And machiko was as great as always. Bandora was funny but could be really creepy when she want. Griffozer and Lami were great fighter. The others were forgettable IMO.


What did you think of the Opening theme song?

At first i didn't like it but it grew in me.

They were great. My favorite is the PteraArrow. And i liked the fact they used them often since some sentai completly forgot they have personal weapons and use they side weapons most of the time.


What did you think of the Shugozyus, Dino Tanker, and Daizyujin?

They are the best dino mecha for me. I liked the fact they could fight alone without having to form DaiZyuJin. The DinoTanker was a good concept but it was kinda useless. DaizyuJin look good and i like the finisher.


What did you think of the Dinosaur Eggs?

At first i thought it would be a one-shot thing but i was wrong. A good plot IMO.


What did you think of Burai/DragonRanger?

Like i said he became one of my favorite Green senshi. His relation with Geki and his backstory were interisting, even if didn't fight alot he was badass, the timeless room is a great explanation for his abscence and his mecha was great. It was interisting to see how he felt knowing he only have few hours before his death.


What did you think of the reveal that Burai was Geki's brother, the sword Hellfriede, and new villain Lamie?

That arc was great. Like i said Burai's backstory was really interisting to watch and his relation with Geki during and after the arc was well done. Lami was a good fighter but that's all. Don't love her don't hate her.


Do you think the Zyuranger's roles as knights/princess of their respective tribes was necessary for the storyline?

I wouldn't say it was necessary but it was usefull in some episode (For Geki and Goushi's backstory for example).


What did you think of the fall of Daizyujin, Burai getting banished from Bandora's palace, the Zyusouken, and Dragon Caesar?

Dragon Ceasar is one of the best Dino Mecha IMO. I liked the music of the Zyusouken and it was usefull for Geki. Definitly more original than just calling your mecha. For Daizyujin it was good, but i think the MMPR scene was better for once.


What did you think of the return of Daizyujin, Burai joining the team, and Gouryujin?

That was predictable but good. Gouryujin is awesome. The finisher was great and it's my favorite mecha in Zyuranger.


What did you think of Klothos, the Lapseless Room, and and the reveal that Burai only has a limited time to live?

It's cool to see an explanation for the 6th ranger's absence and this one was REALLY good. Like i said it was interisting to see Burai's reaction, his fear to die and what he want to do during the last hours of his life.


What did you think of the Thunder Slingers and King Brachion?

The Thunder SLingers were ok. At least they used them more than one time but they were kinda useless IMO. But they are powerfull anyway. King Brachion was good.


What did you think of the other Zyurangers finding out about Burai's limited time, Zyutei Daizyujin, and Ultimate Daizyujin?

It was a heartbreak to see the Zyurangers tring to found a way to save Burai since i knew he will die. Zyutei Daizyujin's finisher is great and i think i like it more than Ultimate Daizyujin.


What did you think of the death of Burai?

Epic. Burai spend his last hours trying to save others people because that's what he wanted to do, fighting to save people. Even if i knew he would die, i cried like a baby (that doensn't mean anything though since i cry each time i see something sad lol). A great death for a great ranger.


What did you think of Kai, the reveal that he was Bandora's son, and Dora Talos?

DoraTalos was just another MOTD for me. I liked Kai's arc.


What did you think of Bandora's backstory and Dai Satan?

Didn't really care about Dai Satan, but Bandora's backstory was well done.

No the best final but it was good. My favorite scene was the scene in the sealed Jar. I love Bandora's song so much. And her reaction to Lami's baby was hilarious.

Like i said everyone should watch every sentai and don't listen what people have to say about it since everyone have a different opinion. I always found stupid to see some people hating something because they read it wasn't good.
