Fulfilling Scott's promise, our first round of convention guest announcements squeaks by just before the January cut-off in all North American timezones (besides Newfoundland)! :-D

PMC is proud to announce returning guests PAUL SCHRIER, WALTER JONES, KARAN ASHLEY, STEVE CARDENAS and CATHERINE SUTHERLAND! Further notices will be shortly forthcoming.

Nah, I informed them to hit up the PMC website and contact you guys directly. If there is a better form of contact, definitely let me know.

Hey, I was talking to someone who speaks with Royce Herron, and she said she had a great time at the last convention. She also mentioned, however, that she was not invited to this year's PMC. Any reason for that? It was great to meet her last time and it'd be great if she was there this time around too. It sounds like she has a real interest in coming back too.

Cmdr Crayfish
02-11-2012, 01:01 AM
I would like to stress that just because a former guest hasn't been contacted YET doesn't mean they aren't going to be, or weren't about to be, contacted. You know how scuttlebutt is, but no one is ever off the table, and PMC makes it a point to contact every single person we have up to date information on.

For the record, Royce was an absolute delight, and she is one of the people I was most proud to have attend last time. That said, Jesse and I didn't actually contact her until around May of 2010.

PMC is pleased to announce our updated guest list for 2012, featuring returning guests ROYCE HERRON, NEIL KAPLAN, JASON NARVY, BLAKE FOSTER, NAKIA BURRISE, Guest of Honor JASON DAVID FRANK, and first-time attendee, legendary PLEX designer and Guest of Honor TSUYOSHI NONAKA!

O.92
02-29-2012, 05:37 PM
I was just about to post that too.

A couple questions about it though. First off, what's a Guest of Honor? What distinguishes apart from the normal guests? And the second question, and I apologize if it's rude, but who is Nonaka? I'm not familiar with his name. Does he have any ties with PR?

Guest of Honor is just a title of recognition to attendees of particular importance. The difference between a GUEST STAR and SPECIAL GUEST STAR.

Khandri
02-29-2012, 08:21 PM
Considering that Jason Frank has been to a handful of conventions now, including the previous PMC, I...do kind of question his "guest of honor" status. There's nothing particularly "special" about this particular appearance in comparison to other convention appearances, and it comes off as unfair the other Ranger actors who'll be there. It's playing too hard to the whole "Tommy is God" subset of fans. Yes, my dislike of Tommy is showing here, but really...what makes him so much better than all the other cast members beyond being the most popular?

I also have a separate and somewhat minor complaint about him regarding the last PMC as well, but that's not a discussion I want to get into here.

For the Japanese guest, though, the "guest of honor" distinction makes more sense. This is the sort of person who you don't get to talk to a lot, and is someone who has done some pretty neat behind-the-scenes stuff for PR and sentai alike. That sounds like a panel I'd be interested in attending.

Cmdr Crayfish
02-29-2012, 08:29 PM
He is the single most recognizable face of the show in the eyes of most of the world. He counts. I'd like to remind people JUDD LYNN was listed as a Guest of Honor last time too, and his equity is much more relevant to the fandom alone.

Hears All
02-29-2012, 08:37 PM
Are people really complaining about Jason David Frank being a guest of honor?

You're getting a convention run by fans who care. Stop finding things to b*tch and moan about. I swear the Power Rangers fandom has got to be the most ungrateful on the internet...

Cmdr Crayfish
02-29-2012, 09:02 PM
Fans wouldn't be passionate enough to support a convention if they weren't the sort to complain often. I don't have as big an issue with that as some might. Though applying Khandri's logic... Johnny Yong Bosch was the sole Guest of Honor at PMC 2007. Johnny does anime conventions all the time, and certainly had been to hundreds by '07. Was it wrong of Maureen to make him that? Of course not. He was a draw for a particularly rabid sect of fan. He met the original criteria of what a Guest of Honor should be, and that is one we have followed ever since. It doesn't diminish the other guests, it just elevates what a particular draw these people are.

Fury Diamond
03-01-2012, 09:49 PM
The "Guest of Honor" makes total sense. The chosen ones fit the criteria and represent the show in the best manner. JDF could've been considered the #2 Guest of Honor at the previous PMC. I remember how epic his Panel was. Good thing that I got there early to get awesome seats. :)

O.92
03-01-2012, 09:56 PM
JDF might as well be the 'God of Honor'. The lines for his autograph are beyond insane, and his panel room is beyond packed. You could spend nearly an entire day standing in line just waiting for JDF's autograph. Good thing I got one at the last convention. I think I'll pass this time around.

I must've missed Jason Narvy on the guest update yesterday, but glad to see him returning. As I've said before, him and Paulie are not to be missed.

Fury Diamond
03-01-2012, 10:02 PM
I know what you mean. I missed the Pretty Panel waiting in line. Oh wait...you were in line too. :) The Bulk and Skull Panel was another awesome panel. Let's throw in Felix Ryan for an hour of comedy.

O.92
03-01-2012, 10:05 PM
It would be cool to see Felix Ryan join the two of them. I'm not sure if he'll have the same chemistry that Paulie and Jason have with one another, but I'd still like to see Felix with them should he attend.

NightMere10
03-10-2012, 11:00 AM
I'd love to see a panel with Bulk and Skull and Spike to see how they'd all react to each other. So, say ASJ could attend, I wonder if he'd be a "Guest of Honor" as well. I understand completely why JDF is one. *Sigh* Seeing the guest list build up makes me wish I was going. Hope you all have a good time, though.

New guest updates. Very excited to see Jack Guzman (Danny from WF) going. I always like the "fresh faces" to PMC.

There are also a few others who people might not know, but I looked them up.

Marshal Hilton - played a role on Beetleborgs
Cristopher Cho - voice of Dark Specter from In Space
Matt Mullins - played a role on Kamen Rider

^

Yeah, I didn't go to the first two so i'm excited, what about you?

And has PMC ever considered having a moderator for the panels? Kevin Smith (just an example) often moderates the BSG panels and it helps reduce the dumb questions (we all know they exist lol), and the panels are more balanced because each actor gets some questions to answer. I'm not suggesting get Kevin Smith (although that would be awesome), but whoever the PMC staff feels would be good for the job

Cmdr Crayfish
04-12-2012, 11:16 PM
We've always had moderators to filter out inappropriate questions (except when people tell us they're going to say one thing and then say something else). Jesse, Peter, Grace and I did it last time. This year it looks like our main moderators will be myself, Peter, Grace, and Jake.

Hears All
04-12-2012, 11:23 PM
^^ I mean moderators who are up on stage during the panel with mics and do things like get questions from the crowd, ask the panel some question (to keep the balance) and in general keep the peace (because i've seen some panels get out of control because fans sometimes get..."excited"). This is just something that crossed my mind, and thought to ask, I don't mean to sound like a jerk or anything

Cmdr Crayfish
04-12-2012, 11:47 PM
But that's what we do. We're just at the side of the auditorium with the line of questioners and a microphone. I'm not sure what you think the distinction is other than not being on the stage.

Hears All

But that's what we do. We're just at the side of the auditorium with the line of questioners and a microphone. I'm not sure what you think the distinction is other than not being on the stage.

Well having moderators ask questions. I've seen many PMC panel videos where more popular actors (like JDF for example) gets asked 70% of the questions and the other people on the panel sit around. I would like to see a more even distribution of questions, maybe have the fans ask 3 questions and a moderator ask 1 (or something to that effect)

NightMere10
04-13-2012, 10:17 AM
If there's any way you could stop people from taking 5 minutes to ask a question, or tell a story about insert episode here and then ask a question that only gets a yes or no answer, that'd be great.

Hopefully people come up with original questions this year. I don't know how many times I've seen people ask Johnny to tell the story about the "I'm a frog" line.

Cmdr Crayfish
04-13-2012, 12:37 PM
If those are the questions fans want to ask and have answered, those are the questions they should be allowed to have answered. What kind of a jerk would I to be to shut some kid up and say "we got told this story ten years ago" at their first convention? If this is their first PMC, they deserve a chance to hear an explanation. They are a paying audience. They have a right to have their questions answered, and they should not be expected to do research just before a vacation. If there are NO questions being asked, it's the place of a moderator to keep the panel flowing. It is not the place of a moderator to silence audiences unless they ask a question that was already answered in the same panel.

I got my fill of JDF last time, so I'm not too disappointed. Anyone who experienced that massive line just to get his autograph 2 years ago knows what I mean. I will not miss waiting in that line again.

Although I do feel bad for the people who were coming this time that really wanted to meet JDF. Better luck next time I guess.

O.92
05-08-2012, 07:33 PM
Guest update. No JDF, but Eyeshine is returning. I would imagine this means they're having another concert. Also attending is Elisabeth Lund who played Heather in Big Bad Beetleborgs.

This is in no disrespect to the PMC team or the work they put in, and I understand that getting guests is not easy, but it still feels like we're waiting for that big "homerun" guest announcement. As someone who's been to both PMC's thus far, the list is mostly comprised of faces we've seen before, or new faces who played minor roles. I'm sure other people can relate to what I'm talking about, but it still feels like we're awaiting that "homerun", if it's even coming (which I hope it is). In other words, the guest list is OK right now, but I'm really hoping it gets a lot better in the remaining 3 months.

Fury Diamond
05-08-2012, 07:55 PM

Sure, I just saw them at Anime Central a couple weeks ago (and stood in line for about an hour and a half for autographs), but this is just as good because this is a much smaller convention and there's more time to chat. Sad to hear JDF can't make it but not too upset, now that JYB & Eyeshine are announced instead. LOL.

If Amy Jo Johnson were to ever show up to PMC3, I expect it to be unannounced & a surprise last minute visit like Deborah Estelle Phillips & Kevin Kleinberg and Daniel Southworth @ the first PMC unexpectedly.

Wait to see if Mike Ginn, Adelaide Kane, Anna Hutchinson, David DeLatour, and maybe both Tracy Lynn Cruz and Patricia Ja Lee or Roger Velasco even are officially announced if not busy & are in Cali/the U.S. too. That would boost me to go and purchase a Silver/Red membership if still available, in regards to a 'home run' guest list. Happy w/ Wasserman, Rogge, and the 'originals'/'usuals' though too already! Fingers crossed. lol

O.92
05-11-2012, 07:01 PM
If Amy Jo Johnson was to ever show up at a PMC, or any public Power Rangers event for that matter, it surely should not be kept secret. An Amy Jo Johnson appearance would SKYROCKET ticket sales. In PMC's best interest to attract more fans and even make more money to put towards PMC, holding an AJJ appearance secret would be a wasted opportunity.

As for some of the RPM cast, I too am still awaiting the announcement of some RPM cast members. I will be VERY disappointed if none go, especially since Mike Ginn has publically said numerous times "I want to attend PMC!".

AltimaXRanger

Cmdr Crayfish
06-12-2012, 05:39 PM
Scott is a superhero. I say with no small degree of pride that there is no other man, NO OTHER MAN ON THIS PLANET, who would do more for this convention and for this franchise than him. We've gotten better and better conventions than I could have ever thought possible because of him. Maureen set an astronomical bar five years ago for what attendees could expect, and he's met and BROKE that bell curve. I have said this before, but I literally would not do this for any other man than Scott.

Yeah, I met Scott last time. Very cool dude. I helped out with the prebagging a little bit last time, and I'll be there to do it again this time. Plus, it gives me a sneak peek at what toys will be sold in the Vendor's section. ;)

But really, I'm just so glad Saban is bringing some surprises to PMC. I've been preaching for months that it SHOULD happen, but in my heart, I didn't really think it would. I'm just so glad to be wrong. Honestly, I can't thank Scott or anyone else who made this possible enough. Morphicon is the perfect place for Saban to roll out the red carpet. The Samurai cast being there is whatever to me, but it'll be another case of the Overdrive cast: where they have to restrict their talking in order to watch for spoilers. But who cares, the more the merrier.

^Good point. It probably is option #2.

Amy Jo Johnson is certainly out of the question. The world will explode before she attends. Which means that if she is the huge guest announcement forthcoming, expect the world to explode sometime before August 17.

David Yost is a possibility, but I wouldn't consider him "huge". He is huge, but he did just do the No Pink Spandex thing 10-12 months ago. So I don't think anyone would be shocked to see him on the list. Haim Saban himself attending would be a pretty big shock.

Good few new batch of guests. Always excited to meet new-time attendee's.

Although in Brandon Jay McLaren's case...he was supposed to be at PMC1 and then cancelled. Then he was supposed to be at Anime Expo 2009 and cancelled. Oh yeah, and then he was supposed to be at PMC2 and cancelled. So this is is 4th time "attending". Can he defend his undefeated streak and go a perfect 4 for 4 in cancelling? I'm putting his name in pencil. A very very light pencil.

Special appearance by David Yost at Power Morphicon

David Yost has agreed to do a special appearance. This will be a Saturday only Ticketed event. This will include a Q&A panel that will include David giving away some of his Power Ranger paraphernalia throughout the panel. He will also be doing a limited signing and photos with the fans as time permits. David will also be raffling his Mighty Morphin Power Rangers signed movie script at the appearance with proceeds to go to the Trevor Project. Power Morphicon will also be providing 500 limited edition David Yost prints at the convention with proceeds also going to the Trevor Project.

PMC is proud to announce returning guest ROGER VELASCO and first-time attendee DAVID YOST.

Please note, David Yost will only be available for a special free-ticketed event Saturday. David will be giving away some of his Power Rangers paraphernalia throughout the panel. David will also be doing a limited signing and photos with the fans as time permits, and will also be raffling his Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie signed script during his appearance with proceeds to go to the Trevor Project. Power Morphicon will be providing 500 limited edition David Yost prints at the convention with proceeds also going to the Trevor Project.

This ticketed event is free for all membership levels at Power Morphicon with Saturday admittance (sorry, Yellow Ranger members), and all Gold Rangers have reserved seating in their VIP section. However, if their seats are not claimed more than ten minutes before this special panel, reserved seating will be turned over to the general population. Gold Ranger members, please make sure you are prepared for this if you want your VIP seating! Only 1152 attendees will be admitted to this panel at the door!

I had a feeling it'd be David Yost. Everyone and their mothers knew it wasn't going to be Amy Jo, so he was the only logical choice left other than Haim Saban himself.

Glad to see Yost come though. With JDF cancelling, Yost will help us meet our "Guest With A Ridiculously Long Autograph Line" quota. No, but seriously, Yost's line is going to be out the door and around the block. If you weren't at the last PMC to experience JDF's line, I doubt anyone has to tell you that spending hours in line, while missing tons of panels and other events, is no fun at all. Get to Yost's line early.

Cmdr Crayfish
07-22-2012, 01:25 PM
Guests are announced when their contracts are signed. Depending on who signs what or when, announcements might come as late as the weekend of the convention itself. Surprise guests, of course, are at the discretion of their own schedules. Have far, far more people than we've announced been invited who have not yet signed as contracted guests? Absolutely. Does that mean anything for announcement purposes? Not really. Would I be silly to say anything more definitive than that and either get people's expectations way up or dash their hopes completely? God yes.

Do some/all guests usually have their own photos to sign at their tables? Or do you absolutely have to bring your own stuff if you want something signed?

Cmdr Crayfish

While it is at their own discretion, guests most often have their own selection of glossies as well as allowing attendees to bring their own memorabilia for signing.

07-25-2012, 07:34 PM
So I was doing a run-through of the guest list just now, when I realized that both Erin Cahill and Selwyn Ward are not yet on the list...

Not sure if either of them will be added soon, but I'll be a little disappointed if neither shows up. They were arguably the 2 most awesome people at the last convention. I can only pray they're added soon.

While it is at their own discretion, guests most often have their own selection of glossies as well as allowing attendees to bring their own memorabilia for signing.

What about the minor cast guests and voice actors? Also, any idea if the Samurai cast will have something to sign? (On the topic of this, does the Samurai cast include Steven Skyler or is it just the primary five?)

And is there any kind of policy that forbids certain stuff like custom prints/photos that I put together myself to get signed? I know some guests at larger multi-genre conventions refuse to sign photos you print yourself b/c it's not a studio-issued photo or something along the lines of that. Have there been any occurrences of this at PMC?

Cmdr Crayfish
07-25-2012, 10:10 PM
Don't bring anything not suitable for viewing in an environment with children. PMC has lenient policies in place overall, but as a rule of thumb to the attendee who wants something autographed? Just adhere to the specific policies of the individual guest.

Well, obviously whatever I bring would be safe for all ages to view and nothing offensive to the guests. It was just the issue of guests refusing to sign photos that aren't officially licensed or printed by the studios themselves or whatever that I was wondering about. Like if I went online, found a high-res photo, and printed that out on a 8x10 glossy, that would be OK?

Cmdr Crayfish
07-26-2012, 12:12 PM
As I said, it depends on the guest's own policies. They're usually quite lenient, though!

It'd be fine. I bring my own prints every time and no one has said no yet. In fact, just about all guests charge LESS to sign something of yours than to buy one of their own prints.

Do you have to pay for an autograph in order to get a photo taken with the guest? Or will most/all be happy to take a photo with you regardless? Like some guests at multi-genre conventions will not take a photo with you unless you purchase an autograph from them.

Most people take pictures with guests after purchasing their autograph. But I guess it doesn't have to be that way. I've never seen a guest charge just for taking pictures or require that an autograph be purchased. But this isn't to say that it can't be done.

Forgot to ask this in my previous post: are there such things as "photo ops"/"photo sessions" where you can have a photo taken with a guest, complete with backdrop and all, by a professional photographer and then they print it out for you? I know these will cost something for sure but there are a few guests that I would love to have a photo taken wih this way.

In support of all the cast members who attend, I often visit them at the tables and purchase one of their photos. They have all been cool for a quick chat and a photo op. There were a few cast members who really took the time to chat with their fans rather than "rush the line". Either way, be respectful to the cast members.

Are there any signing limits for guests? (Paid guests, I'd assume they'd be happy to sign as many items as you'd want -- but what about the free guests?) I'm wondering if there is for the Samurai cast in particular, since they don't seem to be signing for very long, and am I allowed to take photos with them at the signing? I know some conventions have this lame policy of "no photos" at the guests tables which totally dampers my convention experience.
