Season Summary
Ninpuu Sentai Hurricaneger is the twenty-sixth installment of the Super Sentai franchise. Hurricaneger was, in many ways, Liveman meets Kakuranger as not only did the series followed Kakuranger’s plot of screw-up ninjas becoming real ninjas, but it also copied some of Liveman’s motifs and premise of three surviving members of a school massacre becoming heroes. Hurricaneger is a unique series by having the team be made up of three different fractions of heroes who all work for the same goal, but don’t become one big team until the very end.

In the Hayate's Way Ninja Academy, three of its pupils aren't exactly fitting in. But because their Sensei believes them to have potential, he regularly spends the morning personally subjecting them to rigorous training. Upon the graduation day of Hayate Way Ninja Academy, an alien ninja clan called the Jakanja descend on the school and kill the entire student body while they are having their ceremony. The only survivors are three students who happened to be elsewhere doing remedial training.

Out of desperation, the three students are given the school's greatest honor, the power to become Hurricaneger by their sensei so they can fight against the Jakanja The school's Sensei, Mugensai, turned himself into a hamster to evade his pursuers. This occurred when he mispronounced a ninjutsu. The trio was then taken to a secret base to become the legendary Hurricanegers to fight the Jakanja. But they also had to deal with the two ninja brothers of the Ikazuchi's Way Ninja Academy for a while because the Gouraigers were searching for the Evil Force that Jakanja was searching for. But once the Gouraijers abandoned their mad quest they joined forces with the Hurricanegers.

Sensing the sons of two of their greatest enemies within Jankanja's ranks, the Hurricanegers appear before Gai, Ahim, and Doc to regain their Ranger Keys. After they fought with the Gokaigers against Satarakura, Jr. as the Hurricanegers, they gave back their Ranger Keys along with their Great Power which is used to destroy Satarakura, Jr. Their Greater Power manfiests itself in a redesigned form of Furimaru.

I didn't like how it copy Liveman's premiere, but strip all the meaning out of it. Tell me, which sounds better: Three former students coming back to attack their former school as it is making history and three of their former friends becoming heroes to stand up to them? Or Evil Space Ninjas (whatever that's suppose to mean) coming to Earth to attack a ninja school that have no connection to and three idiots becoming heroes become there's nobody left?

Everytime I look at the Gouraiger suits, I get this craving to eat sour candy for some reason. Liked Hurricane Red's suit, didn't care much for Shurikenger's in either form.

Nanami has got to be, hands down, the most overrated female ranger of the past decade. She was not that great of character, didn't receive a lot of development, and Nao's acting was pretty bad (though, I'll be fair, she did get better as the series progress). Kouta never did anything for me, but I did like the episode with his Grandma's ghost. And the only time Yousuke ever stood out to me was in the episode where Mugensai says it's time to pick a leader, and Yousuke starts inner monoluging that HE thought he was the leader the entire time because he always, guess what, stood in the middle.

I thought Sakura was the most overrated, or even Jasmine/Umeko.

It wasn't hard to like Nanami compared to the other two...

I like yousuke. Kouta didn't do anything but he is likable. Nanami is the worst female ranger i've ever seen. She is completly useless but she is hot so she is considered as the best of the best XD. I think the only thing i like is her song. Anyway as a senshi the Hurricanger are really weak. It's like they get their *** kicked each episodes. i think the NS character are far better.

Being slackers gave them a good base for them to grow from and I felt the show did a good job with it, so yeah, I'd say it worked for me.

Eh, I liked Yousuke's boss. She should have been in more episodes. And Nanami needed to learn more songs since she always sang, like, the same 2-3 songs throughout the series.

The Jakanja as pretty cool and i enjoyed the concept of the Seven Spear Warriors from the Darkness and the Main villan as great it as sad dont use him as Lothor counterpart to Ninja Storm.

What did you think of the Jakanja?

Probably one of my least favorite group of villain. The only one i found really interisting is Manmaruba. And Space Ninja really? As much as i love the femame villain Wendenu and Furaibijou are boring. Furaibijous was funny sometimes though.

I found the Jakanja to be wasted potential. Tau Zanto was boring and did nothing except sit on his butt and occasionally move his arms. There was an episode where he actually had other talking faces on his body somewhere in the late 30's... They don't even do anything, and that was the only time their presence was made clear. Furabijo was pointless, though I really liked her ep with Nanami as it brought more depth into her character. Chuuzubo was forgettable. Manmaruba was cool, until he got resurrected over and over and over again. I did liked Wendinu, but sadly, she's was underused. I loved her in the ep where she grows giant. Sargain was kinda cool, but he didn't do much, sadly. I think Satorakura was the best villain in the show. Sandaru was okay, but he appeared way too late, so whatever.

I always felt bad for Oboro. She had a pretty good actress, yet most of her dialogue was basically, "Shinobi Machines this!" "Karakuri Balls that!" You can tell she was trying to compensate that by being a weirdo. As for Mugensai, liked him in the episode where he was basically forced into being that little girl's pet, but that's it.

Thank you so much. I agree with this completely. She's basically just a generic "chick" that's only popular because everyone thinks she's hot. (I don't think the actress is ugly, but she's a type that doesn't do it for me.) The character wasn't particularly strong or tough, she contributed no more to the team than Yousuke or Kouta, and really all anyone remembers her for is her miniskirts and wanting to see her hook up with Isshu.

I like Yousuke because, although he's not very bright, he acknowledges he isn't and still doesn't let it stop him fighting


What did you think of the Opening theme?

I agree with almost everyone else - catchy, fun


What did you think of the Ending theme?

It's beautiful and is my second fav ED theme in the whole of Sentai (my number #1 is GoGoV's)

What did you think of the Shinobi Machines, Senpuujin, and the Karakuri Balls?

They are ok. I like the concept of the Kakuri Ball.

I wasn't really a fan of the first three Shinobi Machines or Senpuujin, the designs were just unappealing to me. The karakuri balls were neat though, a nice way to give the mecha different weapons and thus different finishers to shake up the mecha battles without spamming fullblown mecha configurations.

^I don't like their mecha, i found them ugly. The Goraijer were ok, better than the main trio. I like isshu, i wish his relation with Nanami would be a bit more develloped since if i remember correctly it was only in one episodes and in the VS with Abaranger. I think NS did a better job with Tori and Blake. Their costumes are ok as well.

Im a little mixed on the mecha... the colors were good but i was not fan of them being insects.

The gouraigers i kind of disliked the color repetition... almost wish they were different colors so there wouldnt be a sense of repetition... it made you wonder if there was originally a third gouraiger during development and made shurikenger stick out like a sore thumb even more

The Gouraigers were very good rivals for the Hurricangers, skilled dangerous and persistent, and their mecha were very well designed, both separately and in their combined form.

The Gouraigers are really cool and i liked of there suits and they were much better of the Trio Core of the Hurricanger.

The island arc and the deal with the Goraiger's father was just so delightfully dark and messed up; I mean seriously, the dude wanted his kids to kill one another, so Ikkou ends up deliberately driving himself insane so that his younger brother Isshu would have to put him down, holy crap! Manmaruba cocooning himself was also neat.

Satarakura was my favorite of the 7 Spears since he had the most personality.

As for Shurikenger, he was pretty funny... in his first 2 or 3 episodes. After that, he became annoying. And I didn't like how he went from an off-the-wall screwball to a dark and serious character near the end of the show.

Ikkou being infected was indeed very dramatic and I couldn't wait what will happen about it. Shurikenger Fire Mode was simply awesome. So beautiful the suit like that!
As for Tenkuujin it's one of my most favourite mechas ever:D

The fire mode was unique in shedding for a "power up" rather than gaining clothing

Sataruka was pretty interisting. Finally a villain with a personality in this serie. Shurikenger was ok. I think the concept of the character played by past senshi would be better in an anniversary season

It was ok. Better than most of the other arc but to tell the truth the only part i found amazing is in the 2 last episodes of the arc. Not a fan of Fire Mode design but the concept was original. I like Tenkuujin more than the other mecha.

The movie was ok. For the VS it was awesome to see the Gaoranger again. I love how the seven spear were the evil gaoranger and i really like the mecha fight.

One thing I always found neat about the Vs. is that it really shows how the Gaorangers view themselves as people and as warriors. If you watch it, you notice how when they are in their civilian clothes, they call themselves by the names. But once they slip on the jackets again, they go right back to calling each other by their colors. It's pretty interesting.

That VS hair was actually justified for once, rather than just being due to real life. It was blonde in the first place because he was, just like his PR counterpart, AWOL from the air force. The blonde hair was a disguise, no longer needed after the series was over. Wild Force just didn't carry the disguise bit over.

Sandaru made a very impressive opening, even countering the otherwise unstoppable shadow dance technique. Gozen's reveal was great, and Tenrai Senpuujin has one of the best final mecha designs in my estimation.

I was referring to Gai Yuki, who was shown to be dead. Abaranger's episode featured AbareBlue, who is very much alive. AbareKiller was seen in what seems to be a dream sequence, Gai Ikari simply had his Gokai Cellular when he woke up. But that's moot, fact is Gai Yuki proves that Shurikenger being dead or alive is irrelevant. And I'm pretty sure the Aba VS gave an explanation for that appearance.

I liked how we got dropped down the original trio in the original mecha, a mecha fight, a ground fight against all the Dark Spears, the Gouraijers showing back, one last match against Tau Zanto and boom, graduation. Really, it was kind of like a final boss fight in a capcom game, which I liked.

I was disappointed with how little was done with Nanami/Isshu; there was that episode where he fell in love with her, and that was about it. From what I'd heard, they were practically an Official Couple, so the actual paucity of material for them was a bit surprising for me.

I, too, regretted that nothing much was done with Nanami/Isshu. Not that it was the greatest romance ever told or anything, I just think it's a waste that it was only ever touch on in 4 episodes.

Oh, and that some of the plots didn't drag. Seriously, after a few episodes, I was wanting that space scorpion egg to hurry up and kill Ikkou already, so they could move on to something else.

You did also say second female. I was combining your two suggestions, and noting that Oboro wouldn't have needed to be gender-swapped. Kuwagaraiger is the only other one who could've been cast as a female, as Kabuto is red, and female reds were another taboo back then, and Hurricane Yellow being female would've meant the girls outnumbering the guys at first - another Sentai taboo.
