- Heh, cannibalism.
- Bulk was a lifeguard? I remember Rocky was one, but can't remember anything in the previous seasons.
- Dayu back!
- Wait, Serrator made Uramasa? No you didn't, it was a Wedding Present from Dalia.
- Deker back!
- Looks like someone shouldn't have eaten before jumping into the pool.
- "Candy colored Rangers" Kinda like that.
- Continuity Lookout!
- Deker and Dayu fight the Rangers.
- Dayu's ADR sounded a little off.
- That's still the uglyess Ultrazord I've ever seen.
- God, you can tell they were literally forcing Bulk and Spike to not get involve.

And that's the story of how Kevin got his friends' team disqualified for using an unregistered swimmer.
Also, where did he get the swimsuit, cap, and goggles? I'd like to think he didn't bring them. He looted one of his friends' bags in the locker room.

^ Jayden.
[Keep in mind that this was written while I watched the episode]
I actually did like the scene between Scarf and Octoroo. I actually started laughing out loud when I saw it. I like how they’re showing Antonio really respecting Kevin’s strengths. Najee’s acting has really improved. I hope this episode does well for his character. I really don’t get why they backpack Bulk and Spike onto the main plot when it has NOTHING to do with being a Samurai.
So, is this supposed to show a Kevin/Mia thing? Or it could just be Mia’s same old characterization of being the “mother” of the group. I have been waiting for Dayu and Serrator to meet. This scene was actually done pretty well. It kinda comes in full circle with how Serrator tricked her once, and now he’s using Deker against her again to get her to join him.
I wonder if this was the pool that Kevin was at before he went to be a Samurai Ranger. I like how he’s feeling conflicted. This situation is a pretty realistic one. Wanting to rejoin something, but hearing your old friends talk badly about you. So, Deker was just hanging out there the whole time? Right now, I don’t see how this episode is really helping Kevin develop as a character. (And shouldn’t you not run on a pool deck?)
Really? The buttons played the “Go Go Power Rangers” tune? And really Mia? “Looks like it’s in his right arm.” We would’ve NEVER figured that one out. I swear, she gets all of the horrible lines. And we see another scene from the opening. I liked that water affect over top of his morph. “Super Red Combination?” Since when did they start saying that?
Hm. I wonder when they’ll go back to Shogun Mode. I really don’t like how we’re getting one power up, and the new get a new one in the next episode with little explanation of the one before it. The Gigazord looks awesome, but it also looks really chunky as well. I take my Shogun Mode comment back. Why did Emily say “Ape Foldingzord” and Mia just say “Turtlezord”? And aren’t the Rangers NOT supposed to be around friends and family to keep them safe? I really don’t like how they’re straying from that.
That was a lame ending.
I give this episode a 3/5

Can i just say another great episode except for the gigazord ya its great but it dosen't really do to much kinda like the RPM Ultrazord that was used at the end of the series it was ok but out of all ultrazords nothing beats the original and the zeo ultrazord that jason came up with when he was the gold ranger.

We saw Dayu's guitar get turned into her Harmonium when she was turned into a Nighlok. Is it really that far out of the box to think the sword got transformed as well?

It was probably the best that we could expect for a Kevin episode. There was no point to really have Bulk and Spike today. Also nice to have Deker back.

Najee is my least favorite actor out of the entire cast so I expected this Kevin focus episode to disappoint me. However, it didn't. It was nice seeing them revisit Kevin's past as a swimmer and how he is still dealing with the issues from putting his life on hold. Although I wish they would have mentioned his team earlier in the series. I also wish they would have done something more with Deker's return so it didn't feel so random. It was good seeing Serrator go behind Xandred's back to get Dayu and Deker on his side, but still, it would have been better to make his return stand out a little bit more. But despite those problems, I still enjoyed it. I especially enjoyed certain throwbacks to previous episodes such as Kevin saying he should stay away from his swim team to keep them safe, Antonio referencing Kevin as the guy who is good at dealing with the megazord formations, and Mike still having a picture of Kevin in a skirt on his phone/samurizer. Overall, I thought this was a "good" episode.

I could have sworn it was a regular sword, but I haven't seen it in a while as well.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure it was a regular sword at first. Even if the actual look of it never changed. It's not like Dayu gave the man she loved a cursed weapon.
This was about the average Samurai episode. For any other season, it'd be one of the worst episodes. But for Samurai, it's very average.
--Dayu's sexual allure to her harmonium is incredible. She's willing to work with the guy who damned her just because he'll do a little fix-up on her guitar.
--Kevin's sudden re-longing for his past would be a lot more believable if we hadn't last heard about it...uhh...30 episodes ago?
--Let's just put aside how boring and anti-climactic Deker's return was, but since when did Serrator create the Uramasa?
--Not only did Deker return today, but so did Jennifer L. Yen! That's how horrible and monotone Dayu's voice work was today.
--So they get the Samuraizer back because it was in Rofer Lite's arm...but nothing else is saved? Not the bench, bike, nothing? Just the Samuraizer, magically?
--The answer for Shogun Mode has been revealed! It's only used for when Jayden feels like dressing sexy.
--That was an impressive transformation by Kevin: ineligible swimmer, jeans, & hoodie to swimming master, swimming shorts, & goggles all in about...5 seconds?
Today's episode did nothing overly offensive, and nothing overly good either. It was just Samurai. Bulk & Spike were once again unmercifully forced into the episode for no apparent reason as they continue to bastardize Bulk's character and intelligence. But hey, on the bright side, only 14 more episodes left and we can finally call it a season.

I really enjoyed this episode. Kevin's "choice" referred to the choice he made to be a Samurai and the choice he made to help both his teams this episode; nice episode title. Najee's acting has really improved lately, though he still had some wooden moments. He played his character as passionate about swimming but genuinely sorry he had to leave the team. It was a good callback to "The Team Unites," where Mike learned he had to put other pursuits away to devote himself to the Samurai. It highlighted the difference between Kevin and Mike: Kevin, who was completely willing (however regretful) to put those things aside, and Mike, who had trouble fully committing himself to the Samurai. We also saw it, to an extent, with Mia in the last episode, where her brother said she'd left to "do the Power Ranger thing."
The Dayu and Deker alliance was a pleasant surprise, and a real shocker that they're working for Serrator. It's interesting to see that the key to breaking the curse lies in repairing the gifts they gave one another on the night of their wedding. Without reading spoilers, I hope for a happy ending for Dayu and Deker where the curse is broken and they can live, as the expression goes, happily ever after. Yet I don't trust Serrator and his motives for Dayu and Deker. And it appears he's going to be working against Xandred.
I could have done without Bulk and Spike, but I liked the throwback to MMPR when Bulk and Skull were lifeguards. Next week appears to be a Bulk/Spike focus episode, so hopefully there will finally be some major character development for them.
I expected Kevin would get the Super Samurai Mode today, possibly even Shogun Mode. Oh well. The Gigazord looked a little awkward. I was expecting it to look more like the RPM Ultrazord.
"Kevin's Choice" gets a resounding 8.5/10. Getting better, show!

I thought the episode was good today, not the greatest but I did enjoy it. I thought what action we got was pretty good, the side stories they had going on were ok (sides from Bulk and Spike cause...they weren't needed at ALL today). I liked seeing Dayu and Deker again, though I like how he's just chilling in the forest all like "whatever..." Oh Deker you!
I thought Kevin's actor today was good, he didn't bug me that much, and I liked the swimming team side story but seriously, he basically just got his team disqualified cause you can't just jump in like that!
There was a short scene after Mia chatted with Kevin bout his samuraizer and I liked that Antonio was the one that was like "Don't worry we'll get it back!" or something like that, it shows that respect he has for Kevin from the first season. But that may just be me :p
Anyway, I'd give it a 3/5

The episode was Good, But when I saw Derek's return, I was shocked and speechless. But when the Rangers combined all of theirs foldingzord into Samurai Gigazord, it's was awesome! I can't wait to see the next episode, I hope it's good. :)

I think it's reasonable to think that Serrator cursed the sword Dalia gave Deker, thus "creating" what we know as Uramasa.

A few parts of "Kevin's Choice" were nice, and a lot better than what we've gotten in most Samurai episodes. But the episode was brought down by its weak and scattered storytelling.
Things start with the Rangers discussing the possibility of joining every Zord into a "Samurai Gigazord." What, "Ultrazord" isn't enough anymore? Now I must confess that this season has so disinterested me that I've pretty much zoned out during most Zord fights, so I can't remember if they used the term "Ultrazord" for a previous combination. The new word just sounds kind of silly, IMO. Anyway, Antonio says that despite his scientific knowledge and tech-enhanced symbol powers, Kevin is the one to turn to for new Zord combinations. This is a callback to Kevin's work in previous episodes, but it's still as nonsensical and unexplained as before. This isn't Billy working full time in the Power Chamber, or Dr. K who designed the entire RPM fleet herself. Kevin is some guy drawing colorful pictures in his notebook. The Zords are machines that fit together, shouldn't the Rangers already KNOW what combinations are possible or not?
I'm being a bit hard on this opening scene though, because it at least sets up a challenge for later in the episode. Meanwhile, Kevin comes across his old swimming center and sees that his team is up for the regional championship. Which naturally leads to angst. See, the Kevin in this episode, and "He Ain't Heavy Metal," is the Kevin we should've been getting throughout this season. A normal guy with desires and goals of his own, which he struggles to ignore as he fulfills his Samurai Ranger duties. Not the aggressively boring and one-dimensional jerk who gives people crap for not training 24/7 like he does. The season paid lip service to Kevin's abandoned swimming career in the first couple of episodes, then dropped it all for that inferior one-dimensional characterization. See how much more interesting, or at least tolerable, someone is when you allow them to have a personality and interact with civilian supporting characters?
The MOTD, Scarf, comes in and eats Kevin's morpher though. This is where the episode starts to lose steam. The need to recover Kevin's morpher is mentioned, but Kevin himself is completely disinterested in that. Instead, he just decides to take some time off and sneak around the swimming center again for no good reason other than being there. Any tension or sense of urgency is drained out of the plot. The episode takes Kevin's understandable desire to return to his previous life, and just makes him look like he doesn't even care about being a Ranger. Which clashes with how he was portrayed throughout the rest of the season so far.
So Kevin's old teammates see him, and confront him about leaving. I wanted to like this part, and it should've been so easy to pull the scene off. But the acting and writing for Kevin's friends was too subpar for it to work. It didn't convey the shock and anger that they should've expressed for him ditching them before. Instead, we got mild and stilted lines about "duty" to the team or whatever. That's totally how teens or young twentysomething athletes would talk. So after meeting with his old friends, Kevin just whips out his notebook and decides to finally get around to that Gigazord issue. It's almost funny when he does that. It shows how lazy he's been over the previous day, and how jumbled up this episode's story is.
Almost forgot to mention Bulk and Spike, as I usually do since they're hardly ever involved in the actual plot. Bulk mentions being a lifeguard before, which I think is a continuity reference or something. Still, they don't go anywhere or do anything.
Dayu reappears after being seen briefly about...once in the last ten episodes? I don't remember. Serrator approaches her and says that he's the one who turned her and Deker into Nighloks. It's also revealed that Deker has been alive this whole time, since his sword Uramasa had actually absorbed the brunt of Jayden's attack. I'd like to point out here that the better part of a YEAR has passed since his duel with Jayden. "The Ultimate Duel" happened before the Halloween episode, which was of course before the Christmas episode. "He Ain't Heavy Metal" takes place in the summer. So Deker's been sitting around unseen for seven or eight months, in-universe. Just...why does the show even pretend that this guy is important? He's so clearly not. He has no story, and no desires or goals of his own. Just a shallow, one-dimensional urge to follow his programming and duel Jayden, a mission that he never questions at all.
So the Rangers battle Scarf again, and Dayu and Deker intervene on Serrator's behalf. This part was just stupid. Serrator has two allies on his side, who have been missing or presumed dead. Whatever his plan is (and I assume it's "kill Xandred and take over the Nighloks"), shouldn't he take advantage of this secrecy? Instead, he blows any surprise by sending Dayu and Deker out for no good reason. Really, all they do besides brawling with the Rangers is kill Scarf, to unleash his more powerful mega mode. A power that Serrator and Xandred were well aware of already, and intended to take advantage of from the start. A giant-sized mode that the Rangers themselves would've unleashed anyway, without any intervention from Dayu an Deker. Serrator's plan made NO sense here.
So Scarf's supposedly uber mode consists of a big shield that he can hold up in front of himself. The Rangers call the Megazord after getting Kevin's morpher back, and are unable to beat the shield with frontal attacks. Now this is all Sentai footage of course, but it's still stupid. The Samurai fleet consists of multiple Megazords, and multiple fliers. Wouldn't the simple solution be to call in more Zords, and just attack from different sides? But the whole battle is just an excuse for the Rangers to form the Gigazord (a combination so risky that they claim that it could DESTROY the entire fleet), and beat Scarf with pure, mindless brute force.
So Kevin goes to the championship swim meet to watch his team, and he sees his old friend cramping up. Kevin decides right on the spot to jump into the pool and swim for him. Excuse me? How is this legal in competition? Don't the rosters have to be set before the match? It doesn't make sense at all, like so many other things in this episode. "Kevin's Choice" (and he really didn't make any actual choice) started out well enough, but the story just fell apart as the episode went on.

+:
I voted ok even if it was tie between ok and poor:
+:
-Nice mix of american and japanse footage
-I like the reference to the past episodes (kevin with a tutu, kevin is the expert of zord combinaison)
-It seems like the plot will progress a bit since Dayu and Deker are back
-It's always nice to know a bit better the ranger
-Mia had 2 lines wich make her look like a real "Mother of the team".
-:
-Bulk & Spike were more useless than usual
-What Kevin did at the end is not allowed in the competition i think
-Urasama was made by Serrator, well it's a bit confusing for me but let's pretend it's normal.
-Gigazord is ugly.
-The way they use the shogun mode is confusing.
-The blue samurai ranger suit actor looked more like Ryunosuke than Kevin.*
-So take the shinkenger episode and remplace Ryunosuke by Kevin and natation and you have that épisode....--'
-Bulk a lifeguard? Since when
-That scene where they put Kevin in a shinkenger scene was lame.

At first I thought that lifeguard thing was a nice continuity reference. It SOUNDED like something Bulk had actually done. I used Google and searched through the Writer's Guide though, and nothing turned up other than Bulk being saved by a lifeguard. Did he actually do it, was it just a meaningless little line, or was it a total failure of a reference?

the differences between sentai and pr footage seemed even more obvious today to me... it was a decent episode but lacked a lot of the originality we saw last week. You shouldn't swing from one extreme to another. There's are degrees between not mentioning something for over twenty episodes, and bringing it up unnecessarily in every episode.
People don't like Kevin because the character is so decidedly empty, shallow, and boring. I mean, is ANYONE willing to step up and say that they like this character? Someone who, if questioned, can produce a reason other than "just because?" Kevn does not act like a three dimensional person. Aside from a couple isolated moments, his characterization has stayed within a very narrow range of being jerk with a stick in his butt, who doesn't want to do anything but train. T
The show doesn't do ANYTHING with this. And I don't just mean angsting over his abandoned swimming career. There's no exploration of the relationship that he had with his father, who must have been an incredibly tough disciplinarian. The desire to live up to, and gain the approval of an authority figure who someone doesn't even like very much has been the basis of many stories in far better shows. Samurai allows Mike to make brief jokes at Kevin's expense in quite a few episodes, but the relationship doesn't develop beyond that.
"The Tengen Gate" claims that a previous pair of Blue and Green Rangers rubbed against each other similar way, but ended up becoming the best of friends. That was obviously supposed to reflect Kevin and Mike's relationship. Except that they aren't really great friends, because Kevin never gets to do anything more significant with Mike other than being the butt of his jokes. NO ONE in this season gets significant alone time. Not Jayden and Antonio, who are supposedly great friends despite never doing anything with each other after age five. Not the two girls, who should naturally relate to each other better than they would with the guys, and seek each other's company from time to time. Emily and Mike had a few scenes alone together, but their relationship is shallow as well. They find each other cute and don't even really act on it. Getting back to Kevin, he SHOULD have a really close relationship with Jayden. They have the same exact dedication to the job, but Jayden is a more much friendly person even though he grew up with even more social isolation. The reasons for that could be interesting, but the subject isn't even touched. The only time I can even remember Kevin and Jayden affecting one another was in "The Ultimate Duel," when the two trained alone together, and when Kevin stepped up as team leader in Jayden's absence. That's it, really.
Where's the story of Kevin riding Emily hard during practice and putting her down? Which would lead to Emily growing into a stronger person who can stand up to bullying (instead of just trying to ignore it), and Kevin learning to lighten the hell up? Where's the story of Mike taking Kevin and Jayden out to town, and having to teach those two weirdos how to have fun and socialize? Where's Kevin's father, who is aSamurai himself and therefore doesn't have an excuse to never show up at the Shiba House?
There's SO MUCH they could be doing with these characters, but aren't. Nobody on this show interacts in a meaningful way.

~Why isn't Dayu totally furious with Serrator? I mean, after all, he did trick them into the misery they're in now.
This is something I brought up earlier in my review, but the more I think about, the more I am absolutely amazed that the translators could let such stupidity pass into their show. Dayu should want to torture Serrator and beat him within an inch of his life. He is the sole reason both she and her husband have become mutated Nighloks forever trapped in misery, because he backstabbed them years ago. It blows my mind that she so easily forms a pact with him, the same guy who ruined her marriage and turned her and her husband into Nighloks. I mean...how did this not dawn on the writers? This would be like Jen forming an alliance with Ransik late in the season because she forgot he killed her husband. It just makes no sense.
Now, I suspect the reason this happened is because of more Google Translate failure. I haven't seen Shinkenger, but I suspect that half of this Dayu/Deker storyline is original, and the other half is carbon copied. And the Samurai translators were too...I don't even know what the word is, to realize that their storylines don't even make sense.

^I'm counting the extra 2 clip shows we're getting. And those will probably be the biggest chore of the remaining 14.
More clip shows? No 40 episode series should have 4 clip shows. Jesus Christ. Would it kill them to write an original episode? How hard is it to even write something of the caliber of I'm dreaming of a white ranger?

First, the Gigazord is one of the biggest cluster ****s I've ever seen in Power Rangers. I still like it though. Although, I don't understand how it stands tall.
Second, the only thing I like about Kevin is his abs.

The Gigazord is actually not completely combined into one massive "robot", but some of zords are united and stands on "pedestal" made of the leftovers, hence its so ugly. Turtle and Ape zord are one of such leftovers. oh, man...
I thought Kevin help out the old team mate's leg by some way but not entry to the competition by himself with no registration. That make me so surprized.

I thought that the gigazord would be introduced in episode 'The Strange case of the munchies' (11 oragami). I wasn't expecting that, but it was awesome. I was surprised that Jayden used the shogun belt. Samurai red uses the black box for the second time this season, so far. It was funny when Mike used his samuraizer to call Kevin's that was in the nighlok's arm. Mike's contact photo for Kevin was Kevin in a tutu (from the episode Switching Places). I rated this episode awesome. Cause it was indeed.

When Serrator comes and starts to talks with Dayu she really show anger it is almost she wants to destroy him but them possible because Serrator know Deker is still alie maybe she believes of Serrator promises but w know Serrato just is loyal to one person himself, unless Dayu could plan something which dont are telling to Serrator and Deker and Dayu worked for Serrator we know Serrator need Deker to accomplished is Final Main Goal and well Serrator promise repairs the Dayu Harmonium and Deker Sword and well Serrator goes to keep Deker and Dayu outside lines.

They could copy something from the Shinkenger storylinebut they changed a few elements because if they really keep the Juzo(Deker)and Dayu(Dayu) from Shinkenger will be too violent to the Audience Target but i believe the cast tell they will have a diferent Finale i really wonder who will be the end of Dayu and Deker in Super Samura.

The Samurai Gigazord are in the "Pedestal" is similar to the Throne because we can see the "Pedestal" move along with the Megazord in the Throne similar to a King the symbol with see in the Chest of the Gigazord formation because in Shinkenger Genta refers this formation similar to a Grand General in this case could by a Grand Shogun.

I don't remember Bulk being a lifeguard - but there was a pool at the juice bar... Also, if you remember, Dalia got the blade for Deker but Serrator "happened to show up" and turn them both into Nighlok - So, it would seem it's been his plan to get Deker on his side all along... Serrator could have lured her into getting him the blade. Serrator matches the Nighlok King in the previous episode I just described.

To be fair, I'm not actually sure that Dayu saw Serrator properly, she was a distance away and he was in shadow.

After watching the episode a few times, I can't stand the title of this episode. There is no choice to be made in this episode. Kevin's morpher was eatten and he had nothing to do. There was no decision to be made whether to return back to swimming. All he wanted was a proper closure with his team. Sure, he misses swimming but we know how dedicated Kevin is to the "Samurai life".
If they wanted a choice, then they could do the easy (and repeatedly used) concept of Kevin gives up the Samurai life to go back to swimming. I'm honestly glad that they didn't take this approach because this would be as lame as "Casey becoming a cub again after RJ became the Wolf Ranger" in Jungle Fury.
I'm not a fan of final scene. Rather than swimming, I would've just liked him to cheer them on. Maybe a line like "One day when the world is safe, I will return and complete my dream". Kevin has one and only one team to focus on: the Samurai Rangers. The swimming team needs to learn that they are great even without him and that he'll always have them in his heart. Something cheesy like that would've suffice.

This episode could fits better maybe to Emily or Mia because possible wek know Mia want to find is princess and Emily is the little girl of the team but accepted well is role was Samurai Power Ranger in the Samurai team, in past seasons happens much times the rangers deal with there problems and choises of the normal live and the Rangers life and i think the ideia of Mike wants to end the chapter with is Swimming them could worked much better, because above elses of the Rangers Kevin is the most commit with the Samurai life style.

The Kevin choise maybe do not happens beause he just lost is morpher because the Nighlok eat him and this episode could worked better for one of the Girls because really looks they broke the rules of Jayden tell to Mike in "The Team Unites"

The Final scene could works better if Kevin talking with is friends and the scene by quite similar to the episode in WF "The Tornado Spin" like Max talks with is old friend in WF.

gereally I think the episode was very good but not as awesome as Shinkenger's was. I liked that Kevin has his own unique character and hobbies. I think the days that I was considering Samurai as the worst season of power rangers is history. The second part of the show continues being enjoyable

Early Samurai isn't the greatest that the PR franchise had to offer. The second half is definitely leagues above the earlier episodes. I haven't seen Shinkenger at all, so I can't compare how the PR side is in contrast to the original. The last time I tried that was with SPD and Dekaranger, and I fell in love with Dekaranger over SPD, especially in the second half, when it became a watered-down translation.
As far as this episode goes, it was good, but some things could have been expanded on. For starters, a conversation between Kevin and Noah about what exactly happened that made Kevin run away from his swimming career (even a story about "I had to go because (insert reason here - ill/dead relative, I was abducted by aliens, pick your Soap Opera cliché), and I'm sorry for leaving the team behind" would have been nice), or some kind of "thank you for helping us win"... SOMETHING. Instead, you've got Kevin, who just randomly jumps into the competition, then probably turns around and runs off. I know that expanding on things would cut into other aspects of the plot, but sometimes, it's necessary. Cut the Bulk & Spike bits out, and you would've had plenty of time to expand on Kevin and his swim team.
That reminds me... When was Bulk a lifeguard? Are we really grasping at straws and picking their Junior Police Patrol task-of-the-day from "Changing of the Zords, part 1" as the representation of Bulk being a lifeguard? IIRC, the only thing the two of them did in that episode was faint after Kat teleported away from behind them.

Why are people getting up in arms about Kevin swimming in the competition at the end? Kids don't know you can't do that to help out a friend, and since this show has already been going along the lines of 'kids don't know better'... why change that for any reason?

I know that, but they should have approached it differently. Oh well the magic of Symbol power, can make kids believe in anything. I just hope that the next episode will be better. The thing that got me about this episode was it seemed like Kevin was to busy worrying about his previous life then saving the day. I just wished they would have gave A better explanation on how Kevin came out with the idea of the GigaZord. I'm just gonna move on and hope for a better episode this Saturday.

We see Kevin is devided between Both teams but he is the most devoted of the Samurai Rangers if we dont count Jayden off course and well when they go to form the Gigazord is cool but well is cool see Kevin want to make the Gigazord formation even they know if they do wrong the Megazord can blow up just there, this is something well we see Jayden hesitate for a few times and Kevin does the call is more something they are in battle without a Megazord configuration untested imagine if the Gigazord have been exploded next of is debut will be weird for shore.
Next episode focus in Spike !!
