Season Summary

Mirai Sentai Timeranger is the twenty-fourth installment in the Super Sentai franchise. Timeranger was a unique series in that it pushed the boundaries of storytelling in Sentai by taking on a more J-Drama style approach. Timeranger was also a much more darker series compared to some of the recent Sentai shows at the time. Timeranger is the first Sentai since the concept was introduced in Ohranger to not have a VS. Movie with its succesor series, Gaoranger (Though, the Timerangers did "meet" and passed the torch to the Gaorangers in the Timeranger Special). Instead, Gaoranger's Vs. Movie was Gaoranger Vs. Super Sentai, where the Gaoranger met and teamed up with various warriors from different Sentai series, in which Time Red was the only Timeranger to return in the big Red Warrior rollcall.

In the 30th century, time travel becomes illegal after a time paradox crisis. The Time Protection Department is established to watch for and stop time crimes. Four new enlistee cadets of the TPD are tricked by Don Dolnero and his gang into letting them time-travel to the year 2000 to commit various crimes. To protect history, the four cadets pursue them. There they encounter a severe problem: the Timeranger program requires five members for the first operation. They thus force a present-day martial artist, Tatsuya Asami, to join them, allowing them to become the Timerangers. Afterwards Tatsuya rents a building for them to live in and they start a small odd jobs business called Tomorrow Research to financially support themselves.

Over time, the four cadets begin to realize that their presence would inevitably change the future in the form of the City Guardians, a security force under the employment of the Asami Corporation to protect the city from the Londers. The City Guardians gain a tenuous relationship with the Timerangers, especially when Tatsuya's childhood friend Naoto becomes Time Fire and later the City Guardian's Captain. In the series finale, the Timerangers go back to their regular lives. A year later Tatsuya is jogging when he sees five people who resemble the other Timerangers (including Naoto), but realizes it isn't them.

Domon, Time Yellow, "returned" in Gokaiger by delievering a message to the Gokaigers from the 30th Century telling them to prevent the destruction of a shrine in October 2, 2010, promsing them that they would fine a Great Power. This time was when the Goseigers and Shinkengers teamed up (explaining their cameo in Gosei vs. Shinken) and before the Matrintis Empire first made themselves known to the Goseiger. While protecting the shrine, the Gokaigers met Honami, Domon's former girlfriend, and her son who was Domon's. When Gai/Gokai Silver sent Domon a picture of Honami and Domon Jr., Domon broke down crying upon finding out about the son he never knew.

The Timeranger suits are middle ground for me, the pieces just don't quite come together for me.

The opening theme is awesome and the ending theme is pretty strong too.

Love both the OP and ED themes. I like the suits but not the helmets - the arrow shape bugs me for some reason

I've always liked the suits. Something about them always seemed sleek to me. Maybe they could have used some more silver.

The OP is great, Kumi has such a powerful voice and it so opera-ish; Sentai needs some more theme songs songed by women.

Wasn't fond of the ED, it just seemed weird to me.

I thought Timeranger had one of the best casts and certainly the most subtly developed and nuanced characters.

I am honestly not a fan of the cast and I blame it on the actors. The characters were deep, but the actors just make them unlikable. I never bought Tatsuya as a likable goof who resents his rich family and wanted to break away from it. I mean really, making a bet with your dad that if you can eliminate a MotD, you'll move? Yuri came off as too cold in her aloofness. And Ayase... he supposed to be having fun, not caring about his illness because he's happy with Tatsuya and the gang. You'd never know it with how stiff and lifeless Yuuji Kidou was, you'd never guess that was the character. Domon and Sion, they didn't really bother me much, though I did think Masahiro Kuranuki tried too hard at the naive, child-like alien bit.

Also, these guys really needed to learn how to crack a smile!

I don't particularly like the suits and the helmets, I think the designs are just not that appealing to me...but I think considering the time & time-traveling motif, it is difficult to create a design for the outfits around that motif, so I'm not too critical about it.

I like the opening & ending themesongs...as for the characters, I really like Domon & Yuri...in the beginning Yuri was my favorite because she's just so badass & level-headed, she's really leader material & was sort of like the peacemaker in the group. But over time, I really started to like Domon a lot...some of my friends think he was annoying sometimes, but I beg to differ. Both he and Yuri are my top 2 in the group, I also like Sion...don't really care much for the others.

Londarz Family are interesthing villans for this season and Don Dorunero became a Henchman to Ransik it as curious the way they deal with that but i think Don Dorunero is quite character much interesthing in the Timeranger i really liked of is develoment much during the Show, because we see him do nothing with Ransik never do.

Giem it as cool character and i really liked of is storyline and is motives during the narrative and the way he going to reveal is truth nature and i really liked of is build robots to achieved is personal goals even goes aganst the order of is leader.

Lira she was much funny villan and it as cool to see the way they adaptated is counterpart to TF she becames the Nadira and i really liked she is the one with choise the Timerangers to travel in the time.

Honami was another useless waste of space that was just "The Love Interest." Tak was OK and quite cool. I wasn't that interested in Tatsuya's parents but Mr Asami made for a decent antagonist in some places

I liked the robos and their whole idea of freazing the enemies,pausing time. But the colours of the mechas needed more life it you know what I mean. Too faded. Jets that could fly in time as we saw on the special was amazing

The Mechas it were cool but they really need something more for give them more life and well i never liked much of the ideia have Robo Beta and Alpha in the same will be much better if the been diferent Mechas and could happens battle side by side aganst the Enemies.

Honestly the first batch of Timeranger mecha were uninspired and not aesthetically pleasing. It definitely didn't help that they always had to switch to Alpha to actually finish off the enemy. Plus, it always seemed incongruous to me that their goal was to keep history from changing, and yet they have all these giant robot battles in the middle of the city with buildings being destroyed and stuff like that. Whoops.

I've only watched one episode of Timeranger but I guess I can comment on the mecha via PR. Have to disagree with cypsiman2, I thought the robot formations looked great (Beta moreso than Alpha, just cause I didn't like the other head). The blandness in terms of the arms and legs matching each other works for the idea they were designed by a government unit. I loved the idea of the five combined jets having two different standup forms. That was a first, wasn't it?

The time jets were boring. Mecha battles are not Timeranger/Time Force's strong area. Honestly, the only decent mecha in the Timeranger fleet is V-Rex.

I always thought Beta needed to be used more. I get that Alpha was the more traditional robo, but I thought Beta was more interesting with it's long rang attacks.

i liked how there was a jet and two modes, but i felt like they were still boring and too silver... sure deka had a lot of white, but even in robo mode, the components still had their color showing. time robo was either silver with a dash of red or blue :p

Well, they are cops, their suppose to take the bad guys in. I've always found it interesting that Dekaranger, an idealistic series, would kill their MotDs, yet Timeranger, a much more cynical series, spared their's.

I think maybe they want to make another point of view for the Narratives they always have been destroyed Monsters now they are Treat them as igual, well not much similar because they always try to destroy and Comquer, well Time Force and Timeranger they could at least give the Proper ideia for that but i think the idea it as give them a Fair Trial.

It was another element that played well to the fatalistic nature of the series; Ayase knows he is going to die and there's nothing he can do about it, so the way he grows and changes about it, with Tatsuya's help of course, is really nice.

Ayase had the Osiris Syndrome make the show more realistic and it was pretty shock moment.

Of course, there are many reasons why they wouldn't want to use a real medical condition on the show - not least because we hope that in a thousand years' time the worst diseases now ravaging the planet will have cures! And it allows the writers creative freedom without tying them down to the symptoms of any real life syndrome.

I think the Osiris Syndrome plot worked very well

When i Watched Timeranger i have the Feeling the Season is more about there are going after of the Don Montero to try to captured i can tell the season is a little about both themes, the ideia of the Law enforcement is cool but could results better in TF and Timeranger if they travel more during of the both Shows(Timeranger and Time Force)because could happens when the Villans are defeted in some time try to espace or maybe the Formula from both could by Which Villan have is own space in Time.

I was getting some Timeranger subs from a site (very poor quality, so it was probably from the HK sub or something), but after Megaupload went down all the links were dead. I wish there's another site that provides Timeranger subs but so far I haven't found it yet. This is a series that I'd love to see from start to finish.

i think it was law enforcement through and through but didnt try to make it seem like time travel was going to occur outside of the beginning and end unlike time force whose opening kinda made things messy

Remember, Time Force was meant to be longer but a writers strike put paid to the extra episodes and their intended US original time travel plot, hence what they did with it's OP using footage from Movie Madness.

However, with a name like Timeranger, it's surprising there wasn't more time travel. Maybe Sentai should reuse the motif, taking inspiration from Doctor Who.

I don't know if it was intentional, but I've always found it kinda funny how Timeranger seems to imply that in a thousand years, people won't have last names anymore. Seriously, Tatsuya and Naoto are the only Timerangers to have last names.

It was great movie and made me want to want GoGo V and forget my hate of LR. The funny thing was I had thought this plan as the best way to kill sentai/rangers and they made it a movie. Like they were reading my mind or something,lol

Bit late to the Naoto talk, but Yasuko Kobayashi wrote both Timeranger and Shinkenger, and it shows: they're very similar seasons. Naoto and Genta are 6ths who are very different from the main 5 and shake up the season, which is how good 6th heroes are pulled off. In Naoto's case he's just an interesting guy with different motivations and a different background from the main cast, who uses his powers to further his power-hungry ambitions instead of for some noble cause. Most people here have seen Time Force; Naoto is basically Eric but a much bigger jerk who never completely redeems himself, but meets a much more tragic fate, which makes him a much more complex character.

MechaCrisis it as great and i really enjoyed the storyrc of the Story it as pretty good.

The Death of Don Dorunero it as kind of shocking because i never see it great too TimePink protected the Don Dorunero and in is last moment the scenes between them are awesome, i really enjoyed that moments because we never see (Jen try to protect Ransik)

Lila going to hiding it as funny and cool.

The finale was happy since we saw other people with the same dna as the timerangers that went back to the future. Since they fixed the future it was much greater. I was happy Ayase was cured. The special was cool, it made me wanna watch more seasons

The show had great characters and a dramatic finale that I will never forget. So yes it's a must seen. For me better than Timeforce that I also love because of the emotions I felt about it.
