Season Summary

Tokusou Sentai Dekaranger is the twenty-eighth installment of the Super Sentai franchise. Dekaranger was a huge departure in the Super Sentai franchise as, unlike other Sentai shows that had an over-arching storyline or a clear plotline, Dekaranger was a series that was largely episodic, which each episode focusing on a different case each week. Sometimes a case would go on for more than one episode, but other than that, the Dekarangers would solve the case and move on. Also unlike other Sentai shows that had the team fight an evil empire, the Dekarangers battled alien criminals, each with their own goals and motives. In fact, the closes thing Dekaranger had to a main villain was Agent Abrellar, who mostly worked in the shows, supplying criminals with footsoldiers, robots, and weapons for a price. It wasn't until halfway through the series that Agent Abrellar made his presence known to the team. Dekaranger was a really popular series in Japan. To the point when during an interview with a Toei producer when Gekiranger was airing, that they considered making a sequel series to it.

The story begins when Banban Akaza arrives on Earth to the city of Megalopolis. He is transferred to the S.P.D. (Special Police Dekaranger) Earth branch by his commander. By that time, Agent Abrella, an Alienizer arms dealer, turns his destructive attention to Earth, helping the criminals there. It's up to the Dekarangers to stop them and bring them to justice. The SPD of Earth are stationed in the Deka Base under the command of Doggy Cruger.

Jasmine and Doggy Kruger returned in Gokaiger to arrest the Gokaigers due to claims of piracy. It was during Doggy's interacting with Marvelous that Doggy decided to give the Gokaigers the Dekaranger's Great Power. Ban then appears to clear the Gokaigers of their piracy charges. Doggy appears in the final episode of Gokaiger, along with Signalman, as the Dekaranger representative getting his powers back. It is revealed in a pamplet for Gokaiger Vs. Gavan that Doggy is friends with Retsu/Gavan.

I rather liked the Dekaranger suits; they were very sleek and the way the number was integrated into the suit itself was unique, it wasn't just plastered onto the chest or something like that.

The opening and ending are good, no complaints here.

the suits... i liked the numbers, the helmets i wish were a little more personalized than just the number of windows under their badge....

i find it odd there were no skirts yet the girls wore them in their "civillian" uniforms

sure Changeman didn't have them but Ohranger did... Changeman isnt a good example as a lot of things about it were out of the box... and strange

The suits were awesome. They are among my favourite ones.
The opening theme is one of the best ever as well. I even had it for ringtone in my mobile for a long time.
The ending theme was very interesting and different that we have been used to. I liked it. Cool we saw more about in Dekaranger's movie. Girls in trouble was more awesome ending theme and HOT

I like the suits, people complain they are boring because with no skirts they look like a re-paint of the same suit, but the numbers added variety. I don't think anything is lost through there being no skirts on the girls' suits.

The OP is one of the best in Sentai for me but I didn't like either ED, the first one is dull and "Girls in Trouble" is just an annoying Minnie Mouse-esque pop song

I was never a fan of the suits. The helmets looking like they were smiling and Red looking like he was kinda evil always creeped me out. Plus, I wasn't fond of how the number covered half the body. These suits always looked like to me that they were made before they really decided the final desigh, though I always did like Green and Yellow for some reason.

The OP rocking, but that's to be expected by any song played by Psychic Lover.

I really like how smooth the ED was, really think Go-Busters should have used something like that.

No one in the Dekaranger cast felt like a character or had a personality to me, just a bunch of people mostly defined by what their quirks were, then who they actually were. Jasmine and Umeko were just there to be cute and say and do cute things (which of course I don't find cute) and Ban was just there to say things at high decibel levels and annoy Houji, who was just there to pretend he was cool and say things in blurry, poorly pronounced English, throughout all of which Sen is just smirking that crooked smirk and standing on his head for no apparent reason.

I love the design of the suits, and the opening themesong is one of the best I've heard in Toku & is also 1 of my personal faves :D I didn't quite like the ending themesong though...

As for the characters, I love Jasmine & Sen-chan the most by far, but I think my #1 fave would have to be Sen-chan! He's very laid-back & calm and isn't so serious all the time, but he is the smartest on the team & is very dependable when needed. and sometimes I find his quirks rather amusing, which also makes him a rather funny character, so yes, Sen-chan is my ichiban in the season :D followed by Jasmine, I also like Swan-san & Doggie Kruger.
The other characters are ok...not that I dislike them or anything, I just don't really care for them.
Umeko on the other hand was annoying sometimes and I really don't like her, I just don't see how she's so popular with the Japanese fans...maybe most of them are just her fanboys who are obsessed with all her bathing scenes :straightface: no offense to any Umeko fans here, just stating my opinion...she's really my least liked character on the team.

My fav character from the main six would be Ban. I know, I know, everyone hates him, but he was fun and made me want to get into the show. The girls were OK but too much of their characters was based around the fanservice angle, although Jasmine got a little bit more in terms of her backstory and the whole empath thing. Sen was too strange for me, Hoji was pretty much a standard issue Blue, and I liked Tetsu but he got too silly for me sometimes.

I agree Umeko is overrated but I think Jasmine is more so, she's basically reached the status of the most legendary Sentai girl purely on the strength of her fanboys. Which is a shame, because there's more to her than "sexy", and there are other heroines who did way more than she did and have a better claim to that title.

I never heard of that, and quite frankly I have doubts about it...yes, she has many fans, but it seems Umeko is more popular than Jasmine is, mainly among the Japanese fans, which is why I feel Umeko is very over-rated & the only reason she's popular is because most of her fans are crazy fanboys who drool over all her bathing scenes.

Seriously, compared to Jasmine, what does Umeko have in her other than making her obsessed fanboys nosebleed every time she gets naked in a bath tub? At least with Jasmine, she had more going for her, at least she had a backstory and her character wasn't as one-dimensional as Umeko was. In Umeko's case, she was more just there to be cute...Jasmine at least did more than just be pretty.

If we're talking about the whole cast, I think Swan was a pretty strong character, even if she only fought as a Ranger once in the whole thing. And Doggie is one of my fav "Bangai Heroes" of all time

I loved that villains were like criminals from any police show we see like CSI. Some of them were magnificent. Dekaranger is one of the few shows that didn't need a main villain with so many awesome simple villains. It was great they were living in disguise as humans

The Alienizers were interesthing villans because worked each one for there own path with no directed connection between them, but well the Main Villan in the Dekaranger will be much better if he cames more soon in the Sentai.

The Alienizers was a unique concept. Independent monsters who all mysteriously have mecha, and it's half way though the show before we find out how they got them (funded by Agent Abrella, the big bad). It's a shame the concept wasn't kept in PR SPD.

Doggy Kruger and a really badass and terms of the leadership of the SPD and in Battlefield is great, Swan is a tecnical adviser of the Team cool and when she uses the Deka Morpher it as great her skills in battle but reallu helps the Dekarangers with all gear.

I love them both as characters, and I repeat that Doggie will always be one of the best "Bangai Heroes" for me.

However, I abhor the Doggie/Swan ship, and the inclusion of it is one of the lowest points of the show for me. Seriously, he's a dog. Human-looking characters should NOT be romantically involved with dogs.

Alienizers: Were pretty decent villains, some better than others. I think they worked well for the "episodic" style of the show.

The writers can control it, which is why they shouldn't have included it. It is totally inappropriate. It's about on a level with the Goseiger episode where the female Warstar villain was using the Goseiger boys as her "furniture", but no one thought that was romantic.

As for the Dekamachines, they were OK, and PatStriker's sword attack was cool. Dekaranger Robo was good with it's varied arsenal (sword, gun, and cuffs). A lot of Megazords only have one standard weapon. And it was very agile for a combined robot.

Eh, cross species pairing are pretty common in sci fi shows. Remember how Kirk used the bang alien girls in Star Trek. Plus, it was just little teases here and there, it wasn't like they showed them frenching or something.

I really like Doggie Kruger & Swan-san, they were really great mentors to the Dekarangers and they're such strong & skilled fighters themselves, they were somewhat like the "parents" of the Dekaranger family. I really don't mind the romantic aspect between their characters, I found it all rather cute actually :D

I like the mechas too, especially Dekaranger robo, I like the swiftness of its moves & attacks.

I liked Judge Mode. It made it more interesting when it was time to bring in the criminal instead of the usual just blast the guy to bits with no mercy. At least with Judge Mode, it can decide or not whether the guy actually deserved it or not, and the criminal can have a very short trial to prove their innocence.

OMG Morgana being only that here? That was a shock. Tetsu was awesome, one of the coolest 6ths ever. I will never forget what he did to save Ban. His mecha was cool as well.

It was fantastic. One of the best super sentai movies ever. I wish we have more of Dekagold in the show. Loved the guttling gun the dekarobo acquired and also that we saw the club of the ending music theme!

I thought the suits are extremely well-designed, and the unique number on their uniform adds some individuality to the costumes. So what if it doesn't resemble a police force? I also like both OP and ED and I thought they conveyed a sense of fun about the series.


What did you think of the Alienizers?

I think they are good, and they served a purpose behind the episodic-based style of the series.


What did you think of Doggy Kruger and Swan?

They've got to be one of the best couples in Super Sentai, although Doggy sometimes look a bit too comical until he henshins into DekaMaster.

they were ok...DekaBreak is good, however, in the beginning I liked Tetsu, but then gradually he just became meh to me, I completely lost interest in him as a character, but I still like his Dekaranger form, and the DekaBikeRobo was quite good.

I think the Three Hell's Siblings were pretty good villain. I love Tetsu. My third favorite Dekaranger. I like his bike and his attack. DekaBikeRobo was good. I like the concept of a Bike/Robo

Well it was a powerfull mecha but i don't especialy love it.

I like Deletion more. Those space criminals have committed crimes in other planets, and some even killed millions (when they destroyed planets). I don't see why Dekaranger shouldn't "delete" those criminals, especially since in other sentai series the rangers have destroyed monsters with far less crimes on their resume. SPD's Containment Cards were just used to please the head honchos over at Disney because of their sensitivity over this issue.

there is a comparison question because unlike a lot of the other seasons there arent the same kind of equivalent plot questions we can ask for both seasons. not to mention its one of the season where people seem to really compare the differences because there are a lot of similiarities

Considering the crimes were mass murder and genocide most of the time, deletion fits for Dekaranger. But in SPD, the crimes were just petty theft and building damage (they couldn't have previous crimes because a lot of them were Mora's drawings, and therefore effectively newborn, like the MMPR monsters) - so containment fits better there.

What did you think of Ban's and Hoji's relationship?

I thought Ban and Hoji's relationship (which boils down to Hoji telling Ban "Don't call me your partner!") is interesting, although sometimes I get a bit tired of Ban's continuous juvenile behavior and Hoji's stiff by-the-bookness. It was meant to convey an Odd Couple kind of relationship we see in those cop shows, and I think if they had made Ban a bit less annoying and more easygoing, it would've been better.

As for DekaBright, I like her as a senshi, but I don't really like her character...she just never quite grew on me, she even annoyed me at times. And yeah I was surprised to see that she was the same actress in Kuuga.

Narrators in Sentai i never liked much we have in Kakuranger and in the Middle of the Kakuranger when he leaves by turn the page of Kakuranger and the show becames much better and awesome but in General the animes and other show have always Narrator if we consider the Voice in the Finale.

I'm usually ok with the narrators in Sentai...but Dekaranger is an exception...I mean, I'm fine with a short narration at the beginning of a ep and then some narration again towards the end of each ep, like they did in Shinkenger.

But seriously, the narration in Dekaranger was way too excessive and a lot of them were really unnecessary! I mean, did the narrator really have to literally describe specific arsenals or character abilities virtually every single time it is being used? For example Jasmine's psychic ability & Sen-chan's handstand thinking pose...the narrator kept repeating his explanation for these certain character abilities & behaviors virtually every single time it was featured throughout the series! Was that even necessary? I'm sure after a few eps, the vast majority of the viewers knew by then what the arsenals, character abilities & behaviors/characteristics are, some will even know after the first time...of course, it's ok to repeat those explanations a couple of times for any new viewers who had just tuned in on the series...but to repeat them virtually every single time these certain character abilities, behaviors or arsenals are being featured throughout the series? That's just redundant & becomes increasingly irritating...I don't know how many times I had covered my ears whenever the narrator starts repeating his unnecessary explanations, it was so annoying for me seriously XP

The unbearable excessive narration is 1 of the few aspects I dislike about Dekaranger...

I love the coupling of Sen-chan & Umeko! although it was quite sudden, but they make such a cute & compatible couple nonetheless. I think among all the Deka guys, Sen-chan seems to be the most compatible with Umeko because he has the patience to tolerate her & he seems to understand her the most.

Sen-chan+Umeko are among my fave pairings in Toku :)
