Season Summary
Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger is the 35th installment of the Super Sentai Franchise. A group of young pirates come from space to Earth to obtain the "Greatest Treasure in the Universe", which can only be acquired after obtaining the "Greater Powers" of the different 34 Super Sentai Teams. However, they end up facing the Space Empire Zangyack, whose earlier invasion forces were wiped out by the 34 Sentai groups long ago before a new invasion force is established under Commander Warz Gill, the emperor's son. As a result, due to their history with the empire, the space pirates use the powers of the older teams and attempt to master their powers to fight the Zangyack forces as the Gokaigers.

The ending was very clever
The henshin was awesome. Great idea with the keys
Loved the weapons, felt like watching a pirate movie
At first all seemed pretty interesting, especially Luka,Marvelous and Joe
Yeah it did feel like an anniversary from the very first moment

Not much to add. Good OP, good ED, good cast. I actually found it funny that they used Shinkenger in the first episode - because it happened to be (and still is) the current Power Rangers season. Also, the three teams they used were all teams whose grand powers would manifest as a new combo for GokaiOh.
Since the OP and ED questions were already asked, here's the videos.

Here's the first seven questions:
What did you think of the opening?
It's pretty majestic. Not my favorite, but it works for the show.
What did you think of the ending?
I liked it. The Gingaman to GoGo V section was my favorite.
What did you think of the henshin?
Pretty clever with the X and V.
What did you think of the weapons?
I liked the designs. They were alright.
What were your first impressions of the crew?
I'm probably in the minority, but... I didn't like them at first. Joe was boring. Luka came off as annoying beeotch. Don was find as comic relief, but that seemed to be only thing he was there for. Marvelous... I liked how he just crossed his arms while in the middle of an explosion. As for Ahim, I liked how snooty she was in the beginning.
Did it feel like an anniversary season to you right off the bat?
It showed every previous Ranger fighting an gigantic war. How more anniversary can you get?
Were you disappointed in the selection of Gokai Changes they made in the first episode?
Goranger made sense since they were the first they were the first. Shinkenger made sense since that series is popular. Magiranger was a bit of a headscratcher for me.

What did you think of the henshin?
Cool especially their Roll Call
What did you think of the weapons?
they are hardcore and bada$$. cannon was all right
What were your first impressions of the crew?
they are amazing especially Luka, Joe and Gai
Did it feel like an anniversary season to you right off the bat?
Nope
Were you disappointed in the selection of Gokai Changes they made in the first episode?
No.
I make it no secret. I hate Gokaiger. It's a worthless waste of a season, so now's my chance to break down reasons I dislike it.
What did you think of the opening?
I like it. I like the beach scenes in the opening video; it makes it feel pirate-like. The song is good too.
What did you think of the ending?
I like the floating Keys and stuff. Song? I like how they incorporate the other seasons in.
What did you think of the henshin?
Clever, with the X X X V theme.
What did you think of the weapons?
I'm a fan of uniform weapons for the entire team, but I feel personal weapons halfway through the season or something might have been good. Or pull an AkaRed and let them use the weapons of other Sentai without changing forms, or something. More weapons would have been nice.
What were your first impressions of the crew?
Good cast, good use of the character personalities within the first few episodes, but it was all on the surface. They didn't have the depth everyone claimed they did. Some, sure, but not great amounts. It was sacrificed for the anniversary, I feel. Like the villains. I'd love them to develop more; another season, but without the anniversary stuff in the way.
Did it feel like an anniversary season to you right off the bat?
No; just using old powers. References were nice, but like many, they were before my time, and seasons I hadn't seen.
Were you disappointed in the selection of Gokai Changes they made in the first episode?
I don't recall them, but I think it was primarily all Red and Goranger? I always liked the mix and matched teams they did.

Oh joy, a whole month of show-bashing!
(Yes, I know it's possible to discuss dislike of a show without bashing, but you seem incapable of mentioning Gokaiger without saying "I TOTALLY HATE IT" as if someone might forget)
As for Ahim, I liked how snooty she was in the beginning.
I'm honestly curious, in what way do you see her as "snooty?" If you're talking about her calling people peasants, it came across more as her not understanding that that wasn't appropriate, rather than thinking that she was superior to anyone else ...
Goranger made sense since they were the first they were the first. Shinkenger made sense since that series is popular. Magiranger was a bit of a headscratcher for me.
Presumably that's because MagiRed was going to be the first returning guest. All through the series, a week or two before the next tribute, that season's Gokai Changes would start cropping up more often. And at the start of the show, Shinkenger was the most recent Sentai other than the one that had just ended.

I like this series the only gripe I had was due to everything being in one continuity now a couple things were confusing with some of the other series.

In a way Ahim was snooty... not knowing to not call people peasants is expected of snobby royals that aren't in touch with reality lol
Billy Jarvis Stewart

When i think of the word snooty, Ahim doesn't fit. She openly cared about others too much to be snooty. Most snooty people are rude on purpose, but she wasn't. It just doesnt fit to me.

She was just naive to Earth customs, and forgot that Earth's people won't know that she's a princess, so she needed to act more like a commoner. She improves as the season progresses (there's an episode where Luka tries to protect her, but it ends up being the other way around, Ahim proves that she can look after herself, she's learned to be aggressive in battle but not in social situations). By the time Gai arrived, it was obvious that we had three proud pirates (Marv, Joe and Luka) and three kind rangers (Doc, Ahim and Gai) who balance each other out.
Another point for the weapons. While I thought personal weapons or past weapons might have been nice, I completely forgot they all had their own styles. Joe had his double sword/five sword, Luka had her whip swords, etc. I liked that, for uniform weapons. Just doing it differently from the others.

As much as I love the show ... I have to say that I didn't like the whole Marv/Joe/Luka vs Don/Ahim/Gai angle. It tended to make the former three look like the more competent, useful characters and the other three look weaker.
Digifiend
07-02-2012, 04:52 PM
They were weaker, at first anyway, due to inexperience (the Gekiranger tribute was a good example for Ahim and Doc). Don't forget, the order of recruitment was the same as the roll call order - red, blue, yellow, green, pink, silver.

I didn't like Navi. I don't like robot helpers, though, they're very rarely not annoying. I admit that I like the Buddyroids, but Datas, Navi, I take issues with them. Sure, Navi had use, but I just didn't like him (her? It? Whatever).

Were you disappointed in the selection of Gokai Changes they made in the first episode?
The opening theme was quite good but I like the ending themesong much better...their henshin was nice, wasn't too flashy like other season henshins, it's rather simple but still cool. As for their weapons, none of them were particularly awesome except for their henshin mobilate...I mean, they can use it to henshin into ALL previous Sentai teams with the help of the ranger keys, it doesn't get any better than that!
I didn't like the crew in the beginning to be honest, I actually dislike them at first & found them all really annoying, Ahim was the only decent character who didn't annoy me. But gradually overtime they grew on me as they became more compassionate with the human race on Earth.
Compared to all previous "anniversary seasons", Gokaiger totally oozed with the whole concept & impression of a anniversary season mainly because of all the tributes to the previous Sentai teams & their ability to utilize the powers of the previous teams.
As for the Gokai changes in the first ep, Goranger & Shinkenger are understandable because Goranger was the very first Sentai team and Shinkenger because it's such a big hit...I'm not sure about Magiranger though.
What did you think of Navi?
Navi was ok...he annoyed me sometimes, but at least he was very useful to the Gokaigers in giving them the vital clues to help find all the previous Sentai teams so they could obtain the ranger keys.

The opening was ok... I liked the ending better.
I liked the henshin, though it took me a while to find the third X.
I kind of wish they did something more creative with the weapons. Joe had his multi sword and Luka had her whip. Marvelous used the gun and sword to differentiate himself. Ahim and Don kind of were just there with their guns, nothing really showy.
I honestly disliked them all, but Ahim didn't bother me as much as the others. I hated Don and still do. I liked that Luka was a bit feisty and greedy. Marvelous I cant use the language here. Joe was a little too emo for me.
It did feel like an anniversary season to you right off the bat with the curry :D

What did you think of the opening?
It lacked some "spectacular" for me, but then again, Goseiger's beginning didn't delight me either. While the openining song was great, it didn't really capture me like Shinkenger's.
What did you think of the ending?
Better than the opening, it was like adding more tribute on top of a tribute show.
What did you think of the henshin?
Honestly, one of the best in recent years, I liked that the actual suit built up around them, if that makes sense.
What did you think of the weapons?
I loved them, I mean pirate themed show plus the awesome weapons just gave it that great kick. Also, I cannot forget the awesome factor that Luka/Ahim and Joe/Doc switched weapons.
What were your first impressions of the crew?
I didn't like Marvleous or Joe too much, Luka was off too, but then they grew on me, I think it was their jerk attitude. Ahim and Doc were my favorite at the beginning.
Did it feel like an anniversary season to you right off the bat?
Yes, due to the fact that it was soo much different than previous ones and for the fact that they could henshin to other Sentai teams.
Were you disappointed in the selection of Gokai Changes they made in the first episode?
I don't remember, but I never felt disappointed in the changes.

Annoying most of the time, I can totally see why Marvelous treated him/her the way he did.

Ahim fired her guns in different directions, whereas Doc would fire both together in a concentrated fire. So they do have their own styles.

I quite liked the opening it was nice but not really as fun as the ending.
What did you think of the ending?
It was fun, great anniversary song and the animation was great too.
What did you think of the henshin?
I quite liked the henshin, originally I wanted something spectacular then I realized this is Japan. Their henshins are more to the point than the Power Rangers Counterpart (I'M LOOKING AT YOU DISNEY)
What did you think of the weapons?
I liked the weapons since their whole motif was pirating another team, I can see why there's no reason for them to have their own weapons.
What were your first impressions of the crew?
Captain Marvelous: Badass.
Joe Gibken: Emo ... but I liked his ponytail
Don Dogoier: Great... Green has been getting the bad end of the stick these past few years ....
Luka Milify: Definately a mix of Nami and Asuka Kazama haha.
Ahim de Famille: Wow she reminds me of A-Chan from Perfume back in 2009!!!
Did it feel like an anniversary season to you right off the bat?
Yes it did the whole motif said it all.
Were you disappointed in the selection of Gokai Changes they made in the first episode?
Not really... I kind of wished that had something to represent the eighties and nineties. They could have dropped Magiranger or Shinkenger to move in Bioman or some other team.
What did you think of Navi?
I loved Navi... annoying at times but loveable. How can you say no to that Hawaiian shirt? xD
ShinkenW
07-05-2012, 06:48 AM
I personally see their Gokai changes in the first episode as a little initial tribute to Sentai's history, so to speak, so they would've wanted to cover both the Showa & Heisei teams.
Goranger for Showa was not a surprise because it was the first ever Sentai season, Shinkenger for Heisei was a no-brainer also because it was commercially Sentai's most successful season in recent years prior to Gokaiger...what I'm confused about was the use of Magiranger.
I think what they could've done for the Gokai changes in ep 1 was to cover a season from each decade...definitely keep Goranger since it was the start of Sentai's history, also keep Shinkenger because of its popularity & have it represent the seasons from the 2000's...for the 3rd change, they could've chosen a season that was released in a decade between those, like you suggested, maybe a season from the 80's or 90's. I think that would've been a better idea & they roughly would've covered each decade that way.

it was a fantastic idea. A dream coming true with the changes to past sentai. I also loved the idea of cards in Decade instead of keys
Unique concept, I liked it. Took me back to Ryukendo. As for the changes, well, I'm not a huge fan. There are ways of doing anniversary without that, but if Decade made money, then sure enough, we get this. Good idea, I admit. I like the idea of it, but I don't like the feeling I have that we'll be getting this again soon.

What did you think of the Ranger Keys and the Gokai Changes?
It was epic and is great to see them use them in battle
Mr. CD
07-05-2012, 12:15 PM
It always kinda annoy me that the show never explain why the 34 Super Sentais' powers took the form of keys. At least Go-onger and Goseiger had an explanation why their toyline gimmick looked the way it did. Also, I wasn't fond on Rio, Mele, and Zuuban having Ranger Keys. Mainly because the formers were just your typical Villains Turned Allies; if you're giving them keys, why not make keys for Gator and Shiima and Gyodai and Dryer Jigen and the Gorma Idiots and etc. The latter because Zuuban was no different from your typical robot ally; why not make a key for Datas or IC or Hamster-kun or Arthur G6 etc. I would have swap them with X1 Mask, Deka Gold, and Deka Bright keys.
As for the Gokai Changes, I thought the concept was cool, when the changes didn't last a minute. I wasn't a fan on how they would spent, like, a minute as a pre-Zyu team, but fight longer as a post-Zyu team. Also, I hated male!Hurricane Blue and male!Magi Blue. Wasn't a fan of girl!Hurricane Yellow and girl!Magi Yellow. I did think girl!Go-on Black and girl!Kuwagaraiger was cute.
Mr. CD, thank you for that. That is, more or less, my problem as well. It makes sense that I didn't think of earlier.
I was holding out on X1, at the least, until the very end. Him and Seig; they should have made it in, instead of those robots.

What did you think of the opening?
I loved this Opening Theme. The song is awesome and the usage of video clips was great.
What did you think of the ending?
The song was okay, but I loved the integration of the Super Sentai seasons.
What did you think of the henshin?
Beautiful henshin! The "35" concept is a great touch. The post-henshin roll call is fun to watch.
What did you think of the weapons?
I'm usually not a big fan of weapons, but I loved the pirate-themed weapons, including the pistol.
What were your first impressions of the crew?
Wasn't a fan of all of them, but they grew on me over time. Gokaiger allowed for appropriate character development for all of the characters.
Did it feel like an anniversary season to you right off the bat?
Not at first. The first Change henshin used in mid-episode teased about the anniversary concept. I liked the first episode because of that fact: introduce the Gokaiger story and then concentrate on anniversary elements.
Were you disappointed in the selection of Gokai Changes they made in the first episode?
The selection felt appropriate for the episode. I'm surprised that they did Shinkenger rather than Goseiger. This was fine for me because Shinkenger was fresh on my mind as I was watching PR Samurai at the time.

I like the Zangyack. I'm not interested in villains, and I like it that by and large Zangyack stayed out of the way. The heroes should be the stars of the show in Sentai, and I'm glad that's what happened for Gokaiger - instead of the bad guys trying to steal the spotlight a la Gekiranger.

No, no.
Zangyack? A disappointment. They were strong in the very start, and maybe even two, three episodes in. But after that? They became an absolute joke. I like strong villains (Rio and Mele are the benchmark for me, along with Long), but the Zangyack? They weren't even characters. Giles began to do something, then he died. Damaras had potential at the end, but no, he died. And Insaarn? She could have done something cool, like stage a coup or do something useful at the end, knowing she was probably going to end up dead.
When we get to the Emperor, he had three bodyguards. One died in the Shinkenger episode, and he had two more, one who lasted to the finale. Why didn't he serve a point? It's almost as if he was just thrown into the finale because they realized he wasn't dead yet. He served little to no purpose, showing just how worthless even an executive member of the Zangyack is.
Kaizoku Blue
07-10-2012, 10:17 AM
While I admit Zangyack were a weak cast (and I say this as someone who is at best indifferent to, at worst irritated by strong villain presence) I think it's unfair to complain that they did not dominate the story as the villains in Gekiranger did. The excessive villain focus is a reason that Gekiranger wasn't well received in Japan, and it's something Toei probably won't try again for a long time. It's no surprise they didn't want to do it in Gokaiger.
I used Gekiranger as my high point. Shinkenger's villain cast is about just as weak, but Goseiger's were better, at least. A Geki-style strong villain presence isn't needed, just something more than that pathetic Shinkenger-styled one where they did pretty much nothing.
Anything better than Shinkenger or Gokaiger will be a relief in any season. Those are just such horrible representations of villains.

I actually prefer the Gedoushu over Zangyack...and no, this is not me being bias because I'm such a big Shinkenger fan...while I agree about Doukoku & Shitari...but I found Tayuu and Juuzo quite complex characters because of their dark past & how they dealt with their lives in the present as Gedou, both were at least much more active than Doukoku was & I thought they both overall made quite strong characters as villains...Juuzo with his ever-growing rivalry with Takeru was a good subplot. Although I did wish Tayuu had done more in the series other than just playing her shamisen & play puppet for Akumaro for a while, but her downfall was epic. And I found Akumaro fascinating, his whole obsession with hell & how he was so willing to sacrifice everything, including his own race just to get a taste of it, his whole character & mindset really fascinated me & sparked my curiousity about him.
Overall, the Gedoushu were at least more interesting for me...while I don't give a rats *** about any of the villains in Zangyack, not even Barizorg (although I did like Cid, but he's different)...the only villain that did justice in the name of the Gokaiger villains was Basuko, and he was the only worthwhile villain in the season, and what a villain he was, Basuko is no doubt one of the best villains we've had in Sentai! I love Basuko :D

his name is spelled "Basuko" in romaji & is pronounced the same way in Katakana, so who cares if his english name is 'Basco'? everyone has their own way of referring to these characters, some like calling him Basco, but I prefer to spell his name in romaji.
what name people use doesn't matter, as long as others know who you're referring to.
KnightBuster
07-11-2012, 06:22 AM
It's for consistency's sake. Basuko sounds overly Japanese, even when it's NOT a Japanese name. Honestly, it borderlines on weeaboo territory if you refuse to call a character by their actual name for the sake of preserving the katakana pronunciation.
ShinkenW
07-11-2012, 07:56 AM
what consistency? I didn't think this forum even have this rule, so let me get this straight, we members don't have the right to choose how we call these characters? Everyone has to call these characters by their english name & how they're spelled in the english language just for the sake of this forum being english? That's just stupid. Everyone should have the right to choose which name we want to refer to these characters by. and if others have a problem with that, then tough, deal with it.
It's not like 'Basuko' is the wrong name for the character, it's still his name, just not how it's officially spelled in English.
If people want to spell his name as Basco then fine that's their own business, but I should have my right to use his name in romaji, and if that makes me a weeaboo, so what? We all watch Toku & Sentai here, and Tokus are essentially, Japanese, so why can't we use their names in Japanese if we want to? I am more comfortable using their Japanese names sometimes, it's a habit I have, is that a crime?
I've been spelling his name 'Basuko' for a while and no one here seemed to have a problem with that before...btw I'm not the only one around here who spells his name 'Basuko' you know, there's a couple of other people here who have been spelling his name in romaji too. And I don't see anyone else complaining about it.
I'm not going to bend over backwards for others just to accommodate their satisfactory...unless there's a actual rule here that only permits using their English names...which, as far as I can see, there isn't one. and no mods have complained about me spelling character names in romaji nor have they warned me not to, which means I haven't done anything wrong. So I should have the right to use character names in romaji as I like.
Besides, most of the names for the characters are Japanese anyway...so are we only allowed to use romaji spelling for the names which are actually Japanese?
Japanese terminology & romaji spelling are used alot in this forum actually and by many users, so there shouldn't be a problem with how others spell the character names here...just as long as they are the actual names for the characters and not some fabricated false name.

^That was an awesome idea. A great tribute to the past season. But i was dissapointed with some past senshi who only say one lines and some past serie who didn't have a great power. I mean if they have the power of the 35 past super sentai they should have use each of them at least one times. They could have used Bioman, JAKQ, turboranger, fiveman, flashman, goggle v and Denjiman's powers instead of using some powers that we saw many times in the serie. I still hope to see the last great powers in Gokaiger VS Go-Busters but i doubt it :s
ShinkenW

glad we're moving on with the topic...
Anyway to answer the question, I love that the Gokaigers got to meet the Sentai legends & getting their great power. I think it was essentially the only way they could obtain the great powers from each previous team, by meeting the legends personally and gaining their trust, because without the approval of the legends, the Gokaigers would not be entrusted with the great powers of each team. And without the great powers of each team, the Gokaigers would not have been able to achieve their objective of obtaining the ultimate treasure.
And I believe throughout their interactions with the legends, the Gokaigers had learned valuable lessons, and had grown to appreciate and value this planet and its inhabitants, and that eventually led to their growing passion to protect this planet from the Zangyack.

I think meeting and getting Great Powers from past sentai was a great idea, but one that wasn't executed quite as well for every series. I think the series that received a two-part story arc were the best ones, such as Hurricaneger, Shinkenger, and Ohranger. Then there are lackluster ones like Gekiranger, Magiranger, and Gaoranger. Some of my favorites are Jetman (Gai rules), Carranger, and Dekaranger.

It as great and really much cool for the plot.
My biggest problem was that sure, it gave characters development (Magi, Geki) by getting the Great Powers, but it didn't make sense. Doc and Marvelous obtain the Magi power, so why can everyone use it when those two proved themselves? I'd much rather have had everyone need to prove themselves in some way or another. In that regard I think more episodes (or less non-tribute episodes) would have worked better, or get more alumni to appear if possible. Like, while Doc and Marv go after Kai, another Magiranger appears and ends up with the others to help them, or something along those lines. But budget...

I really liked the concept itself, but I wonder about it. According to that interview that was translated here a while ago, the original plan was to have only a few tribute episodes, but then the earthquake happened and suddenly a whole bunch of past actors wanted to be in the show. 199 Heroes and Vs Gavan would have had to be planned from the beginning as well. So, if the show had stuck to the original idea and had far fewer tributes, how were they planning for the Gokaigers to get the powers of the remaining teams?

Digifiend

Yeah, ShinkenGokaiOh was used in most episodes between it's introduction and it's obsolescence when they got HurricaneGokaiOh, which was similarly spammed until KansenGokaiOh in turn obsoleted that. Deka, Magi, Gao and Go-On GokaiOhs didn't get as much loving.
Mr. CD
07-12-2012, 10:45 AM
They spammed the hell out of ShinkeGokaioh because it was pretty much the only one that can be used in battle. Magi was only really good for was a finisher, Deka was only really good for were long ranged attacks, and Gao was pretty much treated as a stepping stone for Shinken because that's how it was designed. It may be a power all its own but it's nonetheless a halfway step in a process, and it's evidently the full result they want to show off.
Plus, Shinken was treated like the second robo of the series and Sentai always start immediately spamming the second robo. It's really no different then when Goseiger started exclusively using Ground Gosei Great, or when the Shinkenger started using Tenku-ShinkenOh, or when the Go-onger started using Engine-Oh G6, Gekiranger's GekiFire, Boukenger's Super DaiBouken, etc.
At the very least for Geki, Gou was using Touja on his own, so both mecha were in play.
Didn't Deka also have the swords yet? It could technically work for more than ranged combat. Guns aren't exactly limited to ranged combat; they're pretty damn powerful at close range. We literally shot targets to shreds during my police firearms training in about five shots.
Magi had claws, didn't it? And fire? Strong finisher, sure, but you could find more use.

What did you think of the reveal that Barizorg was Sid and ShinkenGokaioh?
I liked the Sid/Barizorg subplot, and it was a powerful one that helped to give Joe some focus and development...Joe's focuses mainly involved the Sid/Barizorg situation
I really like ShinkenGokaiOh it's cool...as for the seemingly "misplaced" Shinken emblems on the mecha, some ppl seem to be bothered by it because it's a bit odd-looking...I agree to some extent because they do seem to be "misplaced" by color...but if you consider which color made up what body parts of the original ShinkenOh, it makes sense.
In Shinkenger, the yellow and pink made up the arms of ShinkenOh while the blue and green formed the legs, but in Gokaiger it was the reverse for GokaiOh, that's why the Shinken emblems look a bit "misplaced" on ShinkenGokaiOh. However the emblems were actually placed in accordance to their original positions on ShinkenOh; yellow was originally the left arm, pink right arm, green right leg & blue left leg...so if you see it from that perspective, they're actually placed correctly. and since ShinkenGokaiOh was manifested from Shinkenger's great power, it seems more fitting that they went accordance to their original positions on ShinkenOh...instead of Gokaiger's color positions.
I personally am not bothered too much by the excessive use of ShinkenGokaiOh in Gokaiger, although I would've liked them to use some of the other powers a little bit more, some were even rarely used. But once they acquired HurricaneGokaiOh, ShinkenGokaiOh was rarely used from that point onwards...so at least they didn't spam the heck out of ShinkenGokaiOh throughout the whole duration of the season...

Basco is an amazing villain and Finally a good ennemy for the team. I love the fact he can use the ranger key.
In a season of extremely underwhelming villains to the point of nonexistence, Basco was a breath of fresh air. I always like human villains over suited villains, so it was nice to see a compelling human face. I say compelling not in comparison with the suited villains, but I preferred him over Juuzo and other human villains I've seen in Sentai, aside from Rio, Mele, and Long, and now Enter. His first appearance with the Sixths? Badass. That he could go head-to-head with Marvelous in combat? Badass.
His monster form? Eh, I could have done without that. I had always been holding out that he'd use his stolen Grand Powers to forge himself armor related to that season, or something. Or that when we did see his monster form, that it was the result of him using the Grand Powers to change himself. But I can live with his true identity.
Sally was interesting, though I could have done with more intelligence to her. I liked that she was the source of his monsters, so she did have a point. She fought a few times too, so I liked that. A human duo, though, would have been wonderful.

I agree about the monster form. I thought he would end up the 7th gokaiger or something. I guess they just prefered to follow the standar formula for human villains. Almost always human villains become monsters at some point and die. And the final battle vs Marvelous. Man how I could forget that to mention it? One of the best moments in super sentai history for me!
I figured the fight might be a later question, but since you mentioned it, I liked the fact that the colors of their attacks (not visible, but I think it was an invert) was something like Marvelous sending a slash in his color, and Basco one in his, or something like that. Or a contrast? Something symbolic.
Seventh Gokaiger? I'd have rather have had an armored warrior, personally. GokaiKiller would have been cool, if that was a real design, but I think Basco might have taken another name instead of the "Gokai" name, if he opposed Marvelous's group.

Yeah, I used GokaiKiller (http://images.pwned.com/userimages/Church4252_1303460101-GokaiKiller.jpg) as an example since that's the evil Gokaiger picture we had a picture for (fan-made, but still). Badass.
Basco during is battles between him and the Goakigers really proves to be much diferent from the Villans with comes under the orders of the Empire, we can see him as really treat with is weapons ready to destroy the others.
His monster form? Eh, I could have done without that. I had always been holding out that he'd use his stolen Grand Powers to forge himself armor related to that season, or something. Or that when we did see his monster form, that it was the result of him using the Grand Powers to change himself. But I can live with his true identity.
The Monster Form is badass and the Gokaigers take him more serious when he used the Armor because really make him more devious and evil, and is truth himself when he speaks about the reasons of Akared and he was friend of Marvelous and there are followers of the Akared and the Next one to take of the Treasure.
Sally was interesting, though I could have done with more intelligence to her. I liked that she was the source of his monsters, so she did have a point. She fought a few times too, so I liked that. A human duo, though, would have been wonderful.
Sally it as funny and interesthign because is cool see Basco use her for make fun of the Goakigers and always fatefull to is Master and is good she have a point to be have with Basco.

Basuko was epic, a truly remarkable villain who was much more worthy of being the main antagonist than the underwhelming Zangyack.
My opinion of Basuko is sort of mixed actually...on one hand, I hated him because he was just so atrociously evil and the way he treated Sally. But at the same time I also really like him because of those same reasons, because he was just so epically devilish and sly that made him such a worthwhile villain. Hosogai Kei really portrayed the character perfectly in my eyes, he really brought the character to life, he totally deserves an oscar for his portrayal of Basuko!
and Sally was cute...although I didn't really care about her much in the beginning but I started liking her when she redeemed herself & was so sad when she died, I literally cried! :(

Basco was one of those villains that gave me various emotions. Originally I thought he would be one of those characters who was working undercover under AkaRed and the whole thing was staged. When I found out he was really a villain, I was gobsmacked! He was a great villain compared to the Zangyack.
I also liked Sally, her demise really showed how conflicted she was. Will she follow her master or will she help those who were once the enemy? That's what I liked about her, despite being a space-monkey she had universal morals.

I would prefer it if instead of him there was a badass 6th to be honest. As for his mecha I liked that he took Goujyu Drill from Timeranger and Goujyu Rex which was like a blue version of Dragon Ceasar. Goujyujin also looked very similar with the Zyuranger's robo. Goujyu Rex was more Tyrannosaurus inspired.
What did you think of Gokaiger Goseiger Super Sentai 199 Hero Great Battle?
Mediocre; it wasn't great. I see people loving it, and I don't get it. It was Gokaiger vs. Goseiger, and pretty much nothing more. With a name like that, it inspires more; it should have had more of the past focus. Gokaiger, Goseiger (I'm in the camp that assumes this was pre-emptive to get Eri's actress before she disappeared), and a Geki-Shinkenger member, for the Vs. Super Sentai setup. The name aspires to so much; that's my main problem. If it was just Gokaiger vs. Goseiger, I could forgive it, but no; not with this title.
What did you think of Gai/Gokai Silver, Goujyu Drill, Goujyu Rex, and Goujyujin?
I despise Gai, like I despise Don. I don't like comedic characters, and Gai is the worst offender I've ever seen, I feel. I know people like him because he was a fanboy, but I hated that. Sure, he's living his dream, but he's also joining a fight against an empire that forced the other hundred-some Senshi to sacrifice their powers. That's something you should take seriously.
As for his mecha, I liked it. I wish it had gotten more use in its other modes, though. I also wish that he wouldn't have gotten all three Great Powers at once; make him work for the alternate modes by getting the powers as they go, and unlocking Goujyjin's other forms.

Ahim: By far the best story. I felt sorry for her parents
Joe: Awesome as well with his friend becoming a cyborg!
Doc: Nothing special. A random person became a sentai just for cooking and cleaning. I didn't like this one. I wish the story of magazine was real, it would be better
Gai: OK it was awesome the 3 most badass sentai ever gave me him power. But come on how can you pick him? Pick a badass like you 3 were. Their choice was dissapointing for me based of how those 3 were as characters

I liked Ahim's the most. Marvelous's was good if for the betrayal of Basco, and the Red Boba Fett stuff (he should have stuck around longer), and I liked Don's (for the sake of him being nothing special. I love that). Luka's was good, for the dramatic moments of her sister's death, and Joe's was also interesting, but my least favorite for some reason. I don't know why.
Gai? I hate Gai, but at least he showed heroism and died to gain his powers. That was good, if I don't like anything else about Gai.

I always thought the show should have gone a bit in depth as to way Joe joined the Zangyack. And I really hate how Gai literally has no backstory. Yes, we got a backstory on how he got his powers, but nothing on him as a person. What was his life like before becoming a Gokaiger? Did he have a job? Because I always thought it was weird that as soon as he becomes a Gokaiger, that's the only thing he does Did he lived by himself or with his parents? Roommates? Did anybody come to visit him when he was in the hospital? How did he become a Sentai fan? Was he once since he was a kid or did watching all the 34 Super Sentai fought in the Legend War make him a fan? All we know about the guy is that he used to move around a lot and that's why he has a lot of friends, but that's it. He literally a nobody until until he got hit by that truck.

Huh, tough question. They each had a certain charm and personality to them, but if I had to chose I would go with Don. When you think about it, he is the only one out of the original five that did not lose a loved one, they just saw him as a mechanic and a house maid and where "Yeah your coming with us." Though he is my favorite tied with Marvelous, his fighting was out of place as well, as it was mostly based on luck. Huh, tough question. They each had a certain charm and personality to them, but if I had to chose I would go with Don. When you think about it, he is the only one out of the original five that did not lose a loved one, they just saw him as a mechanic and a house maid and where "Yeah your coming with us."
According to Naruhisa Arakawa, Don's backstory was supposed to involve him witnessing his father's death, but that was cut because Arakawa wanted Don to be "an ordinary guy." When they get the Greatest Treasure, Don mentions that he could use it to restore his home planet - so he must have lost someone after all.
Gai; but I'm biased. We have a team of anti-heroic pirates (well, that's arguable) with Ahim and Don. Sure, three and three; it balances out, but I just can't stand Gai's place in the team. An over the top fanboy among pirates and people who have lost so much (well, except Don).
Mostly I'm biased.

they were pretty good, I especially liked Joe's, this whole complex situation with him & Barizorg/Sid was one of the more interesting plotlines...I also liked Ahim's, even though hers was a bit ordinary...and yes, I also liked this whole rivalry with Marv & Basuko.
The other backstories were pretty bland and uninteresting for me
Is there one Gokaiger that seemed really out of place to you?
although I agree that Ahim, Don and Gai really didn't quite fit into the whole pirate business compared to the other 3, but for me personally, Ahim is really the only character I really care about in this season, so without her, I probably wouldn't like it nearly as much. Sure it's hard to picture a "innocent" princess of Ahim's position becoming a pirate, but over time she really proved to be a very worthy and helpful teammate to the other Gokaigers.
Overall, despite Ahim, Don & Gai's apparent "out of place" on the team in terms of being pirates, but they nonetheless completed the team and really helped to give some good dynamics to the team...if it were just Marvelous, Joe & Luka, the team probably would've been pretty bland without much dynamic.

I was shocked to be honest with the story because I hadn't watched Go-Onger by then. I found it weird. I am not fan of cute talking machines
Kanzen Gokaioh?
It was awesome robo, I loved its look and its power
The deaths of Barizorg and Warz Gill?
I was sad Barizorg was killed after all but the final battle was awesome. I thought with the arrival of Joe of Liveman somehow Cid would be saved. They wanted to copy the liveman's drama with that I guess. On the other hand this can also be called "Failure of saving my friends who became villains No.2". I was shocked Gill was killed too in the same episode. I wasn't expecting it

I was shocked about Machalcon, I mean how can machines have children? But Machalcon was cool and so was KanzenGokaiOh, like I mentioned before, it is one of my fave combination giant mechas.
The death of Barizorg was awesome, sad but very touching...I cried when Sid's soul was finally freed & he vanished :(
Warz Gill's death? blah...didn't care.

I know that were not supposed to inject too much thought into this since super Sentai is a Japanese show I just found it ironic that Japanese an earth language is the universal language amongst different planets and space empires in gokaiger and warz gill was a whiny wimp i was happy when he died

well Sentai is ultimately a Japanese show with Japanese casts and crew and made for the Japanese public, so it's more like the only language they CAN use is Japanese...they really have no choice. The majority of Japanese people in Japan cannot speak or understand even basic level of english (actors & other showbiz personalities included)...unless they have studied abroad for a while. The majority of them tend to only know some basic english words...but alot of the times it's not enough to hold a decent conversation. It's mainly those people who have studied abroad for a while who are fluent in english.
So it's not like they could use english or some other language in Sentai.

Also, some senshi pepper their speech with English, "Attack!" "Smile smile!" "Oh sh!t!" come to mind. Not forgetting henshin announcements and roll calls. "Busters Ready Go!" "Start Up!" "Let's Go On!" "Emergency!" you get the picture.

It's more that there's no oh here's a translator app Or something like that which makes Japanese as being the universal language weird. Yes it's a Japanese show but that's like power rangers having English as te universal language which is weird too
Akudos Gill was a bit of a let down. i expected more of a threat after how useless his son was, but at least he wasn't a complete waste of screen time like his son was

did you even read my post carefully? I said most Japanese people who have never studied abroad, only know some basic english, but most of the time it's not enough to hold up a decent conversation. And you basically further emphasized my point about the lack of english sentences used in Sentai...sure they sometimes use some english words & short phrases in Sentai, but a whole conversation in english? Never. and that was my point all along...they can manage some basic english words & phrases, no problems...but if they lack the knowledge of the english language (which most of the actors in Sentai do), it would be troublesome to incorporate full sentences in english in Sentai...not to mention Sentai's main target audience are children, and these kids especially lack english knowledge, though I'm sure they can probably understand some very basic english words.
So the most they can do is just to add some basic english words & phrases into the mix but that's as far as they can go.
Can you imagine how weird it would've been if the writers had tried to convey to the viewers that english was the universal language and yet all the actors could manage were a few simple english words & phrases? not to mention the accents would've been particularly strong. So what can they do? Of course make Japanese the universal language because it's the more logical thing to do and much easier for them to convey to the viewers convincingly...considering it's a Japanese show made for Japanese viewers mainly and centrally revolved around Japan (although the storylines typically depict Japan as "representing" the entire planet in this case).
btw some of the "english" words or phrases they use in Sentai are actually not pronounced in english exactly, but in Katakana...Katakana's language system translates directly from foreign words, mainly english...which is why a lot of translated Katakana sounds very similar to their english counterparts...but are actually not english...they're just another way of pronunciation for Japanese people. for example, Saki's trademark "Smile! Smile!", she was not speaking english actually...what she actually said was "Sumairu! Sumairu!", which is the Katakana translation for 'smile'...the pronunciation is very similar to the english pronunciation, but it's not exactly english. There are others...they often substitute the english for Katakana (mainly when the actors are speaking it)

What did you think of Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger the Movie: The Flying Ghost Ship?
Didn't watch it. Couldn't stomach more Gokaiger by the time it came out.
What did you think of HurricaneGokaioh, the reveal of Basco's true form, and the Gokai Galleon Buster?
I liked Hurricane's design. Then it got spammed, and I hated it.
Basco's reveal was strong; I loved it, but I was hoping it was a mutation brought on by abusing the Great Powers or something. That he's had this form seemed kind of cheap, and a way to write around the actor. Human actors are always better than suits, so something like armor would have been a lot cooler.
Buster; interesting. I wish it had come in sooner, or not been introduced at all. It felt odd to have a weapon like that introduced over the halfway mark, in all honesty.
Was anyone else put off by how Fuuraimaru and HurricaneGokaioh were overly green?
Never saw Hurricaneger, so no, not really.
What did you think of Machalcon, Kanzen Gokaioh, and the deaths of Barizorg and Warz Gill?
Underused, like Gao Lion for their respective forms.
Kanzen was fine; not a cluster**** for once, which was nice.
Gill finally got interesting, but of course that meant he had to die. That's how I feel about Gokaiger; it just can't have compelling villains with any depth, unless they're either recurring or not part of Zangyack (Basco for both, obviously). Barizorg I couldn't care less about; he wasn't a character, not really. Gill? He was getting there, and it's kind of sad how they would off him at that moment.
What did you think of Akudos Gill?
I didn't like that he could fight back and be so durable. I'd rather have had a crafty strategist or something who pulled Zangyack together that way, not someone who could fight like he could. It's just something I take issue with in fiction.

I was shocked with what Basco did to Damaras, he was cool powerful villain overall. As for the vs movie it was awesome. I liked it because we saw triple tribute of the actor (Gavan, denjiblue & battle kenya), we saw kameo with Go-Busters and many old villains in the prisons!
That was my first time seeing anything with Gavan and I liked him.

You've admitted in response to several questions in this thread that Gokaiger had several elements you either liked or didn't mind too much. Yet you continue to keep stating over and over and over again that you hate it (as if anyone might forget) and that it was the worst Sentai ever. I find that strange to say the least

Point 1: I'm stating my opinions, and if they repeat, well then, they repeat.
Point 2: Yes, exactly. Also, Carranger's Grand Power would have been very useful when trying to get him to join them. But it has no merchandise, so it's not used. That's annoying.
What did you think of the death of Damaras and Gokaiger vs. Gavan?
I never watched vs. Gavan. Same reason as Ghost Ship.
Damaras? I liked that he was a serious threat and finally got to show that. That Basco backstabbed him (literally) was something he would do, but Damaras should have just killed Marvelous. Something felt off there, when he didn't. It felt like it only existed for him to get himself killed.

The Death of Damaras it was pretty cool plot i really enjoyed to see the Emperor put Damaras in prison and give to him at least one fina Change of redemption over in the Eyes of the Emperor, the Alliance between Damaras and Baco it as great see them work together and even Basco in The End of the Moments of Marvelous he helped him to escaped.
The Final Battle between Damaras and the Goakigers it as great.
Gokaiger vs Gavan it as great movie and i liked much of the Cameo of Go.Busters and the Old Villans in Prisons it as cool.

Unfortunatelly this Toei has died a long time ago, from Abaranger's time. Now they avoid deaths of senshis. Seriously I thought Gai was dead in the whole season by bringing Gai Yuuki back and not being able to see him but they didn't "tribute" that as well. It's what you said about fanservicing. This show was an anniversary show and wanted to make happy the sentai fans. By killing Marvelous they would make them sad

Point 2: Yes, exactly. Also, Carranger's Grand Power would have been very useful when trying to get him to join them. But it has no merchandise, so it's not used. That's annoying.
There's a history in Sentai of having Son of Villain show up for the following year's Vs Special - the Hurricaneger episodes did this too. And no one ever thinks to question that. But Speedor and BearRV are ... I can't stress this enough ... 20-foot tall sentient CARS. It's Go-onger so yes, I guess they had to come up with something wacky. But still, my poor, poor brain.
I agree with you on Carranger but am not sure what merchandise it could have had, since the Grand Power was ... road safety
What did you think of the death of Damaras and Gokaiger vs. Gavan?
I liked Vs Gavan for the Gokaigers but not Gavan. I have tried so many times to watch the Space Sheriff Trilogy and think they're all awful. I'm not at all enthusiastic about a Metal Heroes revival and it annoys me that Toei used Gokaiger as a starting point
Damaras - I was sort of expecting it to be honest. With the way things had gone with the rest of Zangyack, it was at the stage where any time any one of them did something notable it was because they were about to get killed. And Basco was the obvious culprit with everything that had happened between him and Damaras previously
I know, it's sad. Rio and Mele died, but I fear that's the last we'll see for a while. But I was never getting at Marvelous actually dying; I mean that it made Damaras look more incompetent by not just finishing the job quickly. If anything, I feel events should have been different, or something should have held Damaras's plan up so that a delayed execution made more sense.
And Kaizouku Blue:
I agree with you on Carranger but am not sure what merchandise it could have had, since the Grand Power was ... road safety
