This was the first Fan Interview with Aljin Abella. We would like to personally thank him for taking the time to answer some questions for us.
Fun Facts
Fav food: I really enjoy traditional Thai & Italian, but it’s hard to discount anything that’s home-made.
Fav drink: H2O – Best. Beverage. Ever. And it’s free…at least for now.
Fav song: Ooo, tough one...there’re are quite a few, but if you were to scroll through my Ipod you’d probably find more songs by Norah Jones, Death Cab for Cutie, Anthony Warlow, and Michael Buble & Cat Power.
Fav movie: One of my favourite directors is Kim Ki-Duk, from South Korea, so most of his films, including Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter…and Spring, 3-Iron, and Time are some of my favourites. (For a complete list, check out www.myspace.com/aljin)
Fav book(s): The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold, The Consolations of Philosophy by Alain De Botton, and The Outsider by Albert Camus stand out right now, but I’m always reading, so I expect to add more to that list.
Fav show(s): LOVE Battlestar Galactica, Family Guy, The News, and from time to time I check out a little children’s action show called Power Rangers Jungle Fury ;-)
Fav actor(s): It varies for the stage, but for the screen I greatly admire Jack Nicholson & Daniel Day Lewis
Fav actress(s): For the screen: Meryl Streep
Fav place in the world: I’ve recently become accustomed to travelling, and generally find myself adapting to the place that I’m in within days. It may sound clichÈ, but I like to think of myself as a citizen of the world. Melbourne, Australia, Bacolod, The Philippines, & New York, USA (which I’ve only admired from a great distance) come to mind though.
Birthday: July 27, 1985
Aljin on Power Rangers Jungle Fury
How did you hear about Power Rangers?
My agency informed me of the audition after receiving the brief.
What was your first reaction when you heard you got the part?
It’s hard to believe that I’ll now be involved in a show that I used to watch when I was nine & imitate in the playgrounds at school.
General Questions
What are your favourite hobbies?
Reading, writing, playing the piano, watching films, theatre, longs walks at night, collecting Playboy memorabilia & playing video games! ;-)
When did you decide to become an actor?
I love to tell stories and to inform, so it’s been an innate drive. That, & I’m inspired by those around me constantly. Sure, the exhibitionist in me has a good time also.
What advice do you have for other inspiring actors?
Persevere, persevere, persevere…and READ (as in stay in tough with the world around you). Because generally, the last thing a director wants to hear at a function is another actor talking about their ‘process’. In a nutshell, “breathe, relax and have fun!”
Who are the inspirations in your life?
My folks, Friedrich Nietzsche, Socrates, Seneca, Arthur Schopenhauer, Anton Chekhov & just about every other person I come into contact with keeps me going. You could say I’ve learnt something from all these people.
