What was it like simply being 'the voice?'

Well, you know, I was used to being a voice having done tons of other voice roles. Many times I wished I was also in front of the camera being right in on the action physically. Zedd had alot to say so I really felt part of it.

Yes I do. Barbara Goodson (Rita) and Kerrigan Mahan, as well as Dave mallow and Mike Sorich as Goldar, Baboo, and Squat respectively are all friends of mine.

Zedd was a bit over the top. He definitely wasn't funny. If Zedd were to return, he would be more evil. I like your idea of siding with Rangers, then lowering the boom.

Finster was into the science of it.

I have no life outside of my work. No, I'm kidding. I go to the theatre alot. I review plays for Campus Circle Magazine.

Yes. The wedding was a drag. Some of the stuff after the wedding was still meaty but it became watered down.

I auditioned three times for Zedd while I was doing Finster.

I also agree with you about Finster being underused. I was rewatching the first season, and noticed Finster was hardly in those episodes... he seemed to be used a bit more when Rita got married to Zedd though.

Welcome Robert, glad to see you active and interactive with the good folks on this board.

As a long-term (ie: watched the show since it first aired back in 93) PR fan, I've found your portrayal of Lord Zedd to be the best Saban-Era (MMPR-Wild Force) Villain up until Ransik (Vernon Wells) came on the scene where he made a strong play to be the best (and baddest) Saban-Era Villain. Apart from him, no-one could match Zedd until after we got into the Disney-Era (current group of PR) and had Mesogog/Anton Mercer.
However, Zedd will still stay in the #1 spot, even after he had to be toned down due to the complaints he was TOO evil for a kids show, though that probably just makes the show seem more loveable for nostalgia and going back through the show.

To answer: What can I say? It was fine. Most of the time, I worked in the recording studio just with engineer Alan Walsh and director Scott Page, of whom were long time friends. So it was very comfortable.

I was a stage actor first and still am this day. I also act on camera in TV and feature films. Check my credits on IMDb!

I was never really on the set of POWER RANGERS except when I did a cameo role in one episode. The voice people all worked in the post production studio

No. I thought it would be like every other show we did, 52 episodes and then it's gone. After the first three months, it did start to look like we had something special going.

When we recorded the TV show, it was at Saban Studios in Valencia. They would bring the actors in one at a time and record line after line after line 'til it was done. Pretty 'machinegun-like'. For the movie, we were on the 20th Century Fox sound-stage, which has a screen alot bigger. They brought me, Barbara Goodson (Rita), and Kerry Mahan (Goldar) in at the same time and had us do our lines together at times. For the stage show, everyone who had a voice in the show was in the studio! We were back in Valencia, and they had us sitting in a circle with music stands in front of us, doing the script as if we were reading through a play. We each had our own microphone. We'd do long sections of the dialogue, then go back and do it again. The whole thing took us 12 grueling hours!

I saw the live show at Universal Studios. It was awesome! Truly fine work.

As a follow up: How did you feel when the original three got replaced?
Scared. I thought, if they could replace those three so quickly, they could replace me just as easily. I'd better be a good boy!

Not that I recall. Maybe Rita got a back story, but I recall the description of Lord Zedd just read something like, "The most evil entity in this sector of the Universe" or something like that. I filled in the rest.

I used a standard, high quality VCR with a jog dial (backwards & forwards frame by frame) and computer for writing. The machines used in the studio are pretty standard sound editting bays & high quality microphones. I'll bet if you contacted SONY, who makes most of the equipment, and asked the customer service rep, he or she would steer you in the right direction.

I was doing the part of Finster when LORD ZEDD came on the scene. I thought that I would audition for the part. I asked Scott Page, the producer and he said sure. I did a great audition and then I did another two auditions and then I got the part. The producers loved the voice but they didn't believe it was me! I had to call Eric Rohlman and convince him!

1. It was great. Very professional. It was nice to work with a different director for a change.

2. Wow!! It was a talking doll too, definitely used my voice. I didn't see a penny...

3. I only worked with Barbara in the sound studio. I guess Carla was the new Rita when she came back to seduce Zedd. Barbara did the voice for both. I loved working with Barb 'cause we could really play togetherl

You gave life to Lord Zedd in a way that I don't think other people would have been capable of, and I think that it was his personality firstly, and appearance secondly, that makes him stand out in my mind even now as one of the best villains ever. So for that much, I wanted to say thank you for leaving lasting memories on me :)

Secondly, having read through this thread, I had seen you mention earlier that you do small voice recordings for fans for a fee and I was wondering what the proper venue would be to contact you about purchasing one? A close friend of mine is a big fan of your Finster character and is currently toughing out a rough patch in her corner of the world. I think it would make her entire DECADE to get a hello from him. (now I've just got to hope she's not a lurker on this board, hehe...)

There's a character in MISSION EARTH that I would like to voice named LOMBAR HISST. He's the head of the intergalactic FBI. A real meanie! I created his voice for an audition a year before Lord Zedd and didn't get the part, but the voice helped me to create the Zedd voice.

None really. I do the voice easily because I know how to breathe properly.

1. Rita went on to become the Mystic Mother. Super Legends game notwithstanding, what do you think the humanized and de-eviled Zedd went on to do?

2. Do you think there's a chance Rita and Zedd's allies (Goldar, Rito, Vile, Finster, Squatt and Baboo) survived the Z-Wave? I personally believe they did survive by being at the M51 galaxy at the time and were the ones to raise Thrax.
