It is a power as old as time itself . . .

Sih Caien Zedd, Dragon Ranger and Knight of the Burian Tribe, tore flesh and armor open with the Zyusoken Dagger. Blood and mechanical oil spilled onto the desert ground as Zedd continued to slaughter the Immortal Vast warriors. The gold Shield Of Lagan shone in the early morning sunlight, reflecting the light for miles. Prince Zordon, the Wildcat Ranger, saw his comrade impossibly outnumbered. In a flash of red streaking energy, he stood by Zedd's side, wielding the Sword of Eltar.

"Together, my brother . . ." Zordon said. The title of brother did not indicate relation. Instead, it was a title earned after many battles that the two had shared. Zedd turned to him and moved, the two Zyraku Rangers standing back to back against the Immortal Vast armies.

"Together, my prince," Zedd returned. The blades of the crimson and emerald weapons became a storm of silver death against the black legions.

It is an enemy no world has withstood . . .

"Come on, you can do better than that!" Jason taunted Heath. Beneath the darkened helmet, the Burian Knight cracked a smile.

"Trust me, I can . . ." he shouted, leaping up onto the overpass. The sound of machine gun fire filled the air as Heath walked through the storm of gunfire, grabbing one of the supporting International Tactical Utility Vehicle's that had arrived only a few minutes before. He lifted the bulky vehicle above his head and with a solid growl, launched it at the Rangers.

"Watch out!" Trini warned as the military vehicle came spiraling through the air and crashed in the sand right before them. A cloud of dirt rose up, blocking out the sun as the distinctive sound of yet another vehicle racing through the air was heard. Jason barely managed to see the large shadow of the truck bearing down on him before rolling out of the way. The ITUV crashed to the ground mere inches away from the Red Ranger. Jason quickly got back up to his feet and slid his hand down the blade of the Power Sword, lighting it with red energy, and threw it at the Dragon Ranger.

It is a legacy handed down for millenia . . .

"What do we do now?" Trini asked. Jason dusted himself off, feeling the strange device that sat attached to the black belt around his waist. He pulled it out and stared at the golden coin, seeing the image of the Tyrannosaurus Rex emblazoned on it. He glanced back at the others.

"Zordon said these Morphers will give us powers . . . lets do it!" He exclaimed. The others glanced down at their morphers and pulled them loose from their clips. Jason looked at his friends, his fellow teammates and saw the realization in their eyes. He stepped forward, swinging the morpher around and aiming it upward.

"Tyrannosaurus!" He shouted. For what seemed like an eternity, the box sat still and inactive as the MAW soldiers began to close in. Then, without warning, the box split open, sparks of energy dancing around the coin. He felt a rush of warmth over his body as the currents of energy poured into his skin. A wave of energy climbed back from the morpher, leaving a red bodysuit on his body. In a flash of light, armor was left in specific places over his body. A helmet then appeared on his head in a flash of light. He looked out through the darkened visor, seeing the holographic readout that displayed his vitals, his energy levels, and his morpher's status. He flexed his fists within the gloves and felt a strange sensation coursing through his arms. He waved his arm out towards the MAWs, red flames of energy spinning off his hand, slamming through the soldiers.

It is our darkest hour . . .

"There is no beginning . . . for I am the end . . ." a low voice came from the towering white machine. "I am The One . . . I am The Eternal . . . I am Cyclopsis the Hunter . . . and you will fall . . ." A dark amber glow began to build around its right hand as it lowered the Hammer of Itassis down to its side.

"Behold the fury of the Fire of Oculous," it rumbled as the glow sparked into a raging arc that became a beam of hellfire. The beam slammed into the MegaZord, sending it flying backwards through a series of buildings. The extraterrestrial flame seared through thinner plates of armor, consuming precious circuitry and wiring.

“Their systems are crashing!” Billy shouted within the Power Chamber. He glanced up to Zordon’s ion tube, awaiting his orders.

“I will infuse the MegaZord with my own powers . . . open the Zenosystem channels . . .” Zordon ordered. With hesitation, Billy keyed in the commands and watched as Zordon’s image flickered within the streams of ions.

“I hope this works,” he prayed as the lights of the command center went dim.

It is our greatest hope . . .

Rising to his feet, Tommy stepped through the debris that once been the outer wall of the Great Hall and quickly drew a fighting stance against the dark lord of the Dairaku. He raised the Dragon Dagger to his helmet, his mouthpiece retracting. He placed the mouthpiece of the dagger to his lips and played a series of notes that his symbiote had instructed. Dark golden, nearly amber light burst from around the diamond of his shield as energy played along the blades of his weapons. He felt the unknown energy coursing through his muscles and strengthen his armor.

Zedd, watching the light play across the form of his enemy, raised his fist to the sky and induced an energy storm of sapphire blue bolts that struck his body. He watched as his exposed muscles rippled, the energy flowing through them. Zedd then lunged forward, swinging the blade of his staff at the Dragon Ranger’s neck. At that same moment, Tommy leapt towards his once master, both his weapons fully charged. Blade and staff met in a mighty collision of energy, each trying to overtake the other in massive sparks and deep, clashing claps of thunder. Like fire and ice, the two opposing forces canceled each other out and sent their respective owners flying backwards, as if two magnets repelling each other.

The saga . . . is coming

Ah... I was wondering when this was gonna hit RC. BR, it's good to have you and your fic here. I am sure that the story will be as well received here as it was on RB.

BattleRanger

I'll post it when we have a forum style with a black post background ... like what RB uses ...

Mr. Silver
02-27-2009, 12:24 AM
We actually do. The style entitled "Black Test" has the background that you are looking for. Also there is a Dark Set (Red/Gray) combination that should be dark enough to suit your needs.

BattleRanger
02-27-2009, 12:35 AM
The dark set-red-gray was close, but its still not black ... and all my designs were on a black background. I may can fix things, but we'll see.

BTW, I've posted two entries of my database with more to follow soon.

BattleRanger
03-02-2009, 08:12 PM
Heads up- the first two chapters are up. Enjoy! BTW, this is probably how the rest of the posting of this will go- two at a time and very fast (as this is already written.) I anticipate your comments!

BattleRanger

Okay guys, two new chapters up and I'll post another two this weekend.

BattleRanger
03-06-2009, 10:59 AM
Alright, as promised, today I will post two new chapters of Fire and Ice, as well as some more Database entries, but after these posts, your interaction as fans will determine the longevity of the Power Rangers Saga on Rangercast. For me, interaction with my readers is very important, even if its harsh criticism of my work. I welcome any and all comments and any questions as well, concerning the fanon of my work.

And remember- the best is yet to come.

BattleRanger
03-07-2009, 04:03 PM
Okay guys, I just wanted to let you know that I am presenting some entries to the Database thread here exclusively on Rangercast, particularly those of Lord Zedd and Zordon. I hope you enjoy them and I await your comments and questions concerning the Fire and Ice story.

BattleRanger
03-08-2009, 09:22 PM
Okay, the next round of chapter postings will come this Wednesday ... look for it.

ShadowDragonRanger

Like I posted in the interview: I'm impressed. Great job, man! On an editor's part you have a list of slight mispelling and punctuation errors racked up (ex. During Kim's phone conversation with her mom).
I suggest going over the story one more time compared to using a spelling/grammar check application.
Other than that, the story's gripping. I like how (IMO) the focus is on Zedd and the Immortal rather than the teens, even though you spent time on them as well.

BattleRanger
03-11-2009, 08:42 AM
There is a lot I'd like to fix with Fire and Ice- maybe one day ... but right now, my focus is on the sequel ... maybe a directors cut of the story one day ... we'll see.

BattleRanger
03-11-2009, 10:43 AM
BTW guys, as some of you may know, the Power Rangers Saga fanfic series was pretty much a Rangerboard.com exclusive ... RB was my first PR discussion thread home (before I even knew SPRC existed) ... however, due to the possibility of that board's end following the RPM season, I have elected SPRC the NEW home of the PR Saga ...

However, my decision goes beyond the closure of RB ... here, at SPRC, I truly feel like I'm home. I have felt honored to received the attention you guys have given me and my fanfic since arriving here. You guys make what I do truly worthwhile and for that, I want to thank you.

I will end with a quote from my fanfic thread at RB:

The future of Power Rangers isn't in the hands of Disney ... its in our hands, as fans. The future of PR is our responsibility.

ShadowDragonRanger
03-11-2009, 07:39 PM
In the words of the MMPR, "Right!"
I'm pretty sure that we'll keep going even though Power Rangers is taking a REST. With fics like this and the other 5-Star stories, fans still have something to hold onto alongside memories, tapes and digital copies.

BattleRanger
03-11-2009, 08:40 PM
For me, I just hope that I have a home for my fanfics!

BattleRanger
03-12-2009, 02:57 PM
In addition to some new database entries pertaining to characters debuting in Fire and Ice, as well as ones we've been seeing since we started, I've also posted four new chapters over the last two days ... I hope you all enjoy.

Just to let you guys know- two new chapters this Sunday or Monday ...

I really have embraced SPRC as the new home of The Power Rangers Saga, so I would really like to hear what you guys think about the fic ... feel free to drop me a comment!

BattleRanger

A message to all ...

A personal request from BattleRanger/Patrick Nelson Smith

As most of you may know, The Power Rangers Saga was previously a fanfic exclusive to Rangerboard. However, as I have become a part of the SPRC community, I really feel at home here- which is one of the reasons I elected to make SPRC the new home of The PR Saga.

However, a home is not a home without family. As of now, most of you are strangers- especially those of who you are visiting my The PR Saga threads (and you're the ones I want to get to know best!)

I'm not holding the future of Fire and Ice ransom ... but its a very ... lonley feeling to post my work, which I have poured years into, without any reaction from you guys as a fandom.

I have posted SPRC exclusive entries in my The PR Saga Database that were never seen on Rangerboard- all in an effort to bring you guys something unique. This too will continue, but its been a bit exhaustive- without the payoff of hearing what you guys think ...

The Power Rangers Saga is my sole contribution to the Power Rangers fandom, at a time when our future as fans is dark and dreary with the threat of the series being cancelled- however, I want to share with you all the joy of nostalgia, seen through a different interpretation, as we relive the original MMPR saga in the fanfic, Fire and Ice.

Thank you all for your support and your kindness here- you guys make what I do worthwhile ... please keep it up!

Sincerely,

Patrick Nelson Smith

I just saw your promotional art...Absolutely riveting!
*Reader Comment:
Zordon's back! Sweet! Hmm, I wonder if Tommy's seeing what's really going on with Zedd...
*Analysis:
The character interaction is "clean" (personal catchphrase) and the scene transitions are smooth, effectively capturing the reader within the narrative. Excellent job, Patrick! Can't wait for the next set of chapters.

I hope that everyone understands my plight as a writer isn't to receive attention- very much the opposite, I wrote Fire and Ice for myself as a fan- the whole Saga is a creation to please my own whims and desires as a fan. I welcome everyone to jump on if they enjoy the story, but I certainly don't mean to come across as someone who is solely interested in thread views and comments. I may have been a bit premature and immature in asking for your opinions on my story, but I said what I said out of honesty- nothing else.

Once Fire and Ice is finished, I will post a poll that will grant those willing to participate a special sneak peek at the sequel to Fire and Ice. While I have certainly put forth effort into Fire and Ice and the Saga itself for my own reasons, the opinions of the fandom certainly do matter to me.

The decision to include Scorpina was born out of a complaint from fans who pointed out a lack of female villains in the PR Saga. In retrospect, it was a great idea, because it allowed me to flesh out a very interesting backstory for Scorpina and add a greater and richer depth to the overall Saga itself. This is why interaction between myself and the fandom is something I cherish so much.

On to the fic ...

Two new chapters are up today, making a total of four chapters that debuted this weekend. I hope this pace isn't too breakneck for the casual fans, but I'm doing everything I can to catch SPRC up with my other fans. Remember, the best is yet to come!

This story is absolutely spectacular. It’s great to see a redo of Power Rangers that doesn’t try to make everybody gritty and “realistic”. Those have their place to be sure, but I always thought it was a needless change. You prove that the original characters can function perfectly fine in a well-written narrative that gripped me from word one.

I must admit, though, I am sad to not see good old faces like Rita and Goldar. I noticed you alluded to our favorite Empress of Evil here and I was wondering if you were going to include them at some point. Seeing as how deeply you’ve connected Masked Rider into this, is there any chance we might be seeing updated versions of the other Saban series? This isn’t a request or demand, you understand, this is just fan’s curiosity and either way, I won’t tell you how to write your story.

That being said, please, continue this excellent story.

BattleRanger
03-23-2009, 12:15 AM
Thanks for your support!

This might clarify things ...

Well, I know I did. Double-barrel question: Zedd's the villain for "Fire and Ice" but we also see Bandora (Rita's Sentai counterpart) during the classic battle with Zordon. Why Zedd? Why not "Rita"?

Okay, well, keeping with what I like to think is an 'epic' quality in the storytelling, I couldn't see having a villain named Rita Repulsa.

For me, Lord Zedd was always the classic MMPR enemy- ruthless, evil, cunning, downright diabolical. Look at the fact that Saban was forced to tone Zedd's character down after complaints from parents.

I decided that Zedd and Zordon had a much more richer background with each other than just 'Rita' or 'Bandora.' However, for all her fans, I included the character 'Bandora' in the backstory for Zordon, basing her off the villainess from Zyuranger.

That message is a bit cryptic ...

Perhaps you meant it that way. I'm pretty anxious to read your take on MMPR ...

ShadowDragonRanger
04-03-2009, 08:12 PM
Yes it was...kinda.
I have re-thought my idea after reading your fic.
There's new concepts inspired by "Fire and Ice" -- things you've used or done - things you haven't covered or wrote about. Specifically our villain(s), Green with Evil and our finales.

BattleRanger
04-03-2009, 08:37 PM
I'm glad it was enough to inspire you ... that's a very rewarding thing for me.

ShadowDragonRanger
04-03-2009, 09:22 PM
I was just gonna tackle the main stroyline, but your fic and several similar works have made me rethink that decision. Character development and some aspects of dialogue are not my strong points.

BattleRanger
04-03-2009, 09:22 PM
Fire and Ice took me A LONG time. The first draft was just ... awful. The premise and concepts are about all that have stayed the same.

ShadowDragonRanger
04-03-2009, 10:00 PM
I know exactly what you mean. "Another Road" has origins in this original spin-off series I was working on called the Defender series. It felt kind of like a dead-end, so I started to work on some PR rewrites after seeing the Kalish seasons and some other things I didn't like or wanted to see more of.

topline
04-06-2009, 01:12 AM
Ironically I found PRS while searching for PR wallpapers and it was your Rising Storm Dragon zord wallpaper that I stumbled upon! It brought me to your RB thread and then ultimately here. This actually happened within the past 2 hours!
Even though I haven't read much of Fire and Ice yet, I did read the tidbit quotes on RB and it just got me salivating! I was in 2nd grade when MMPR aired so I grew up with PR, as I'm sure most of the members here have, so I've always had a soft spot for it (mainly MMPR though). So far I've only looked at most of the stuff in the database, like characters and worlds. btw, I love the take on the suits! But I can't wait to start reading
So, I guess the purpose of my rant is that I want to thank you for reigniting this flame in me!
I look forward to reading the stories.

A SCENE FROM THE UPCOMING POWER RANGERS SAGA FANFIC, THE RISING STORM

In the skies above Angel Cove, Anor, the newly appointed commander of the Rotoran, yanked the reigns of his Tulpar hard to the right, angling the beast towards the metropolitan capital that sat on the edge of the Levy Peninsula. The leathery wings of the long extinct creature caught the air as it effortlessly soared across the sky. Anor’s sanagi blade bounced off the scaly hide of the reptilian steed, the one he had named Dor-Valin, its eight limbs flexed as it dove towards the city. In response, the defense alarm sirens of the city screamed, a chilling reminder to its citizens of the war between the Rangers and Lord Zedd.

“To ruin!” Anor shouted to the other riders beside him. The flock of massive, winged steeds descended upon Angel Grove, as cries of terror filled the air. The Power Rangers landed just beyond the parking lot of the Celestion Center Entertainment Complex, their muscles hardened by battle and reflexes sharpened by bio-synergy systems beyond human comprehension.

“Arm up . . . Power Weapons!” Jason commanded.

“Right!” the Rangers shouted. A spiraling burst of light left the five weapons in their grasp as Jason brought forth the Shield of Lagan with the might of Zyusoken. From the waters beyond the arena pavilion, the elephant-sized Qirini appeared, their dark riders holding their sanagi at neck level with the Rangers.

“Spread out!” the order came from the Red Ranger. The Rangers scattered about the decorative fountains and shrubbery of the complex, the hooves of the war stags splintering the concrete into jagged shards as they stampeded towards them. Before the Dasa ground troops, four of the Rotoran and their winged mounts set down, screeching loudly as they dashed for the red armored warrior. Jason quickly sent a surge of energy into the blades of the Dragon Dagger and Power Sword, mentally strengthening the Dragon Shield as well. He met Anor and his captains, Aszar and Agorn, as they clashed the heavy, curved blades of their sanagi swords against the razor sharp Zyusoken and Power Sword.

“Die . . .” Anor cursed in a low, growling voice at Jason through his darkened helmet. The Red Ranger leapt above the Rotoran leaders, dodging their deadly blades. He landed and clashed his weapons together, producing a growing spark that consumed the less fortunate Aszar. The Gorma captain fell to the ground, rolling in a vain attempt to suffocate the alien flame.

“You first!” Jason shouted back at Anor, leaping and spinning, the blades of his weapons glowing with energy. Anor parried the attack effortlessly, catching the Red Ranger across the neck with a stiff forearm. Jason hit the ground, the air knocked out of his lungs. Anor stomped the Red Ranger with his full weight, angling his sanagi and slicing Jason across his arm. Jason screamed in pain, blood trickling into the confines of his power suit. He came up to a knee, using the Power Sword to steady himself.

Across the pavilion, Adam Park, fully powered as the Blue Ranger, faced off against a horde of the mindless Dasa Knights, each of them cursing at them in words too simple for comprehension. He brandished the Power Lance, fighting off the advancing Gorma troops. He spilled black, ancient blood across his navy armor as he countered their attacks, stabbing them with the razor edge of his lance. From the corner of his eye, he noticed the Black Ranger cornered by a wave of Dasa, atop their Qirini.

“You didn’t tell me they were this strong!” Zack shouted towards Adam, who cut his way to his friend through the sea of stinking, decaying Dasa Knights.

“You didn’t ask!” Adam remarked, separating his lance into its two sections. Before he could reach the Black Ranger, a Qirini and his Dasa rider nearly trampled him beneath its webbed hooves.

“Watch out!” Zack shouted. Before the Qirini could react, Zack sliced its saddle harness, its Dasa rider falling off to the side and smashing into an embankment. The Black Ranger then brandished his Blade Blaster sidearm, shifting it to blaster mode. As the snorting stag came back towards the Blue and Black Rangers, Zack fired off a blast that caught the beast between its eyes. Roaring in pain, its legs gave out from beneath it and it slid across the ground, crushing a few of the soldiers beneath it.

“Boy, when you gonna learn to fight?” Zack playfully teased the Blue Ranger, helping him to his feet. As Adam found his footing, the distinct bellow of a Tulpar rang out overhead, as the winged beast landed, perching atop one of the columns that separated the pavilion from its parking lot. Atop the dark beast sat Armoth, second-in-command to Anor, the commander of the Rotoran.

“Do not celebrate victory when the shadow of death is cast upon you!” Armoth declared, dismounting his fell beast.

Kimberly Hart stood with her back against Trini Kwan’s, taking out as many of the Dasa as she could with energy arrows before they could reach the Yellow Ranger. Trini kept the hordes at bay with her Power Daggers, as more and more of the brainless soldiers swept towards them.

“There’s too many of them!” Kimberly shouted, quickly producing more energy arrows, lining them across the accelerator ring of the Power Bow.

“Jason!” Trini shouted in her comms. Jason Scott struggled in the grasp of the Rotoran commander, as Anor tightened his massive hand around the Red Ranger’s throat. He finally dropped the Power Sword and grabbed Anor by his forearms. Before he could break free, a blast from the SGS Tri-Laser exploded around the Red Ranger, destroying the Rotoran commander.

“We’ve got company . . .” Adam shouted, watching the Hunters racing across the parking lot of the Celestion complex.

* * *

Jang Visnu watched the battle between his forces, the SGS Hunters, and the Power Rangers with great interest. The flaming ring of the Eye of the Immortal shone off his battle armor as he gripped the hilt of the legendary Kessen sword.

“Our enemies grow by the minute . . .” he stated, as Vadu and Pakthas flanked him, each also dressed in full armor. He turned to face the Noyan and the Jebe-Noyan.

“Let us reclaim our glory,” Visnu declared, leading the rest of the Stratorma out of his personal quarters.

* * *

“Zack, take my sword . . . assemble the Power Blaster!” Jason shouted, tossing the Power Sword to Zack. Jason, still carrying Zyusoken, drew his Blade Blaster out from its holster and extended its blade. As he cut through the never-ending wall of Dasa soldiers, he felt a hand on his right shoulder.

“Leave this to the professionals,” Will Hayes told the Red Ranger. Jason scoffed and beheaded a Dasa that had leapt at the Red Hunter.

“Are you insane? There’s no way the five of you alone can stand against their armies . . . we have to make a stand, right here, right now,” Jason replied.

“That’s what I intend to do, just as soon as you get the hell out of my way.”

“I’m telling you, you guys aren’t enough . . . I’m pretty sure we’re not enough . . . but that isn’t the point . . . I will not let these monsters take this city . . . our city . . . as long as there is a breath in my body.”

“Sarge, what’s the verdict?” Sam shouted, referring to the Power Rangers. The Red Hunter considered the consequences for a long second.

“Disregard them . . . our priority here is the new targets . . .” Will commanded. Before he ordered his team to advance, he caught Jason by the edge of the Lagan shield. “But if you get in my way, I will personally break my foot off in your ***.” Jason ignored the comment and rushed to the side of his Rangers, letting the driving Hunters control the battle for a moment.

“Zack, you control the Power Blaster,” Jason said.

“You got it, bro,” The Black Ranger replied.

“Everyone else, arm up with your Sling Blasters, connect them with your Blade Blasters . . . whatever happens, we fight until the end!” The Rangers cheered in unison, arming themselves with their blaster weapons. Jason led them into the swarming Dasa, leaping and landing behind the saddle of a lead soldier atop his Qirini steed. The Red Ranger cut the rider down and grabbed the reigns of the creature, wheeling him away from the Rangers. The beast, obviously disconcerted by the presence of its unwelcome rider, snorted swirls of fire in protest, as it reared up violently in an attempt to buck the Ranger off. Jason grabbed the reigns even tighter and steered the beast into the midst of the Dasa Knights. The Red Ranger carved through the hordes of Dasa, atop the irascible Qirini, focused on the battle until a deep, rumbling thunderclap distracted him.

“Jason, something tells me this is about to get worse,” Adam’s voice sounded through Jason’s comm. The Red Ranger glanced up to see storm clouds swirling above the city, moving together in a vortex that spewed lightning that touched from cloud to sea.

“Sarge, does any of this look familiar to you?” Matt asked the Red Hunter, indicating the storm that brewed above the battle.

“SGS One to SGS Command, requesting immediate deployment of SGS RAPTOR (Rion-class Assault Prime Transport Omni Rifle) to current coordinates,” Sgt. Hayes instructed.

“The Omni Rifle . . .” Matt uttered, anxious to see the sophisticated machine. The RAPTOR had been developed as what had been known as an Omni Rifle, or assault rifle capable of delivering Omni plasma rounds and could be broken down into five separate ‘Assault Prime’ components, that when attached to the Survibusters, would form individual weapons for each Hunter.

“Copy that, SGS One. RAPTOR is in the air,” a voice replied over Hayes’ comm link. From the rising darkness, even darker birds appeared, screeching with bloodlust and carrying the gathered Gorma triumvirate to the battlefield.

“It’s the RAPTOR!” Rose shouted, barely catching a glimpse at the Valran beasts.

“No, its not!” Caitlin shouted, diving to avoid the black beak of the war bird. The Valran carrying Jang Shadam Visnu landed just beyond the team, his yellow eyes fixed in curiosity on the blue beam of light that delivered the RAPTOR into the hands of the Red SGS Hunter. Fabricated from Oseranium, a steel-blue colored heat-dissipating alloy, the RAPTOR was held together by ruby-paneled harnesses and bore the insignia of Search Guard Systems.

“Begin Assault Prime protocol!” he shouted, as the avian-inspired device began to break down into its separate parts. The Hunters caught each of their sections of the RAPTOR, designated with their numbers and connected them to the attachment harnesses of the Survibusters.

“Leave these trivial matters to me, my Noyans. The Eltarian force must be destroyed!” Visnu ordered. Gara Kalrena appeared, holding the Khanda of Aquilonia, a blunt-ended long-sword belonging to a forgotten goddess, in her grasp. The Noyan and Jebe-Noyan rushed across the pavilion, where Jason sat atop the exhausted Qirini steed, as he mowed through the endless Dasa Knights.

“Jason, look out!” Trini shouted. The Red Ranger turned and watched as Vadu cut the legs of the beasts out from under him with a precise swing of his Hrun axe. Jason fell from his mount and blocked the sword of the malicious Kalrena with Zyusoken. Before he could shove the vile woman off, a blast from the Power Blaster caught her squarely between her shoulders. Kalrena twisted in the air from the force of the impact and landed on the back of her neck. As the Black Ranger celebrated his shot, a whine from the morphers indicated the Power Weapons had been spent. The blaster vanished in a spiraling arc of blue light before Zack could disassemble it.

“Billy, what happened?” The Black Ranger shouted into his comm.

“I’m afraid they’re gone . . . with your powers already weakened from the battle, they could no longer sustain the weapons . . .” Billy explained.

“Not good!” Trini exclaimed, the conversation between Zack and Billy spilling over their comms.

“So fragile are your powers . . .” Kalrena said, grasping her Aquilonian sword. “You dare rob me of the sport of war?” With that, the vicious woman charged the Black Ranger. Zack dodged the charging Gorma and quickly armed himself with his Blade Blaster. He extended the blade of the weapon and used it to counter attack, then opposed the ancient weapon, closing in the distance between himself and Kalrena. Zack then turned and struck the Jebe-Noyan with a strong backhand. Kalrena spit blood as she spun in return, striking with a solid roundhouse kick. She followed up with a blind thrust of her blade, moving with superhuman speed. Zack caught the razor-sharp edge of the blade across his thigh, the Aquilonian sword piecing his armorweave.

“Uruk, Shem, Vanaherin . . . Alatar-Istari, Udurin!” Kalrena canted, speaking the language of the Rangi shaman. The powerful incantation echoed across the battlefield, drawing the attention of the other Gorma. Kalrena thrust her hand forward, discharges of light bursting from her fingertips. The energy coalesced into a single beam of light that snaked around the Rangers, striking each of them multiple times. Where the demonic energy had touched their suits, burnt circuitry was exposed beneath the armor.

“You . . . *****!” Jason shouted. He made a determined fist and gripped Zyusoken tightly. Zydos Vadu watched the infuriated Red Ranger and stepped out in front of the Jebe-Noyan.

“Your curse carries no strength, you fool . . .” Vadu told Jason, as he rushed the strongman. Vadu sat the Axe of Arondknight down, a gift to him from the Hrun Priests, and raised his hand to his face.

“Allow me to show you how it’s done! Vala, Rauko, Rogath . . . Malar-Dandos, Turoth!” With the evocation, arcing bursts of lightning exploded from Vadu’s hand, striking the Red Ranger. Jason writhed in pain, his ears overcome with the loud arcing as the bolts pulled him into the Gorma’s grasp. Jason dropped the Dragon Dagger and fought to pull Vadu’s hands from around his throat.

Okay guys, the wait is almost over ... as soon as I get my desktop fixed, I will begin posting The Rising Storm on a schedule that will be determined later on (probably like two Chapters a month ... maybe one ... ). The thing is, I don't want to lose anyone's interest, but I know a lot of people have a hard time following stories because of work and other issues, so maybe this won't be a concern.

No, the story isn't complete yet, but as before, I think reactions will be the best course to help dictate the flow of the story. This will probably wind up being a shorter fic than Fire and Ice, but with the amount of action and drama involved, hopefully it won't be that apparent.

SOON, THE STORM WILL RISE ...

THE POWER RANGERS SAGA
The Rising Storm

Security at the Tryforian-designed command center of Zordon of Eltar was of a level unknown anywhere else on Earth. In addition to radar, motion sensors, security cameras, and hidden listening stations throughout the valley, the base had highly advanced Tryforian security measures. The early-warning net extended outwards in a ten mile radius and up to six-hundred-and-ninety kilometers above. The valley was lined with seismic sensors capable of picking up the slightest tremor, or the vibrations of underground excavation. Infrared motion-sensitive beams crisscrossed the dunes. In short, a coyote couldn’t jump without the sensors knowing about it. However, the security systems of this magnificent fortress weren’t its most impressive.

The high, vaulted ceiling of the Power Chamber contained the matrix systems for the teleporting operation systems, built to receive and reconfigure the signals of the Power Rangers. Those systems came to life as the individual beams of energy belonging to the Rangers passed through their threshold, their bodies landing upright, on the dais below. After a moment of displacement sickness, the Rangers turned to regard the ion tube that held the visage of Zordon of Eltar.

“Rangers, there is very little time. Observe the viewing screen,” Zordon began, as the holographic display system spun to life in a radiant sparkle of sapphire energy. The light took on the shape of a tribal warrior, leading a group of similarly dressed warriors into battle.

“Behold the Gorma tribe . . . long ago, before the Great Morphing Wars, the Gorma lived alongside the Maori, a tribe native to the island of Aotearoa, and the Ausaria, Eltarian refugees fleeing the bloodshed of the Dairakun Knights. Together, the tribes were known as the Daos, the great light of civilization.

However, the Gorma, who had been the military of the Daos, soon turned against those who had united them under the banner of sovereignty. Their insurrection was short lived as a legendary Eltarian warrior, battling with the might of the tiger, defeated them, imprisoning the tribe in a state of suspended life within seven crystalline orbs,” Zordon explained.

“Okay, what does this have to do with us?” Zack asked.

“Rangers, even though you have never encountered the Gorma tribe, they are your mortal enemies. I am afraid that the nexus in which the Eltarian warrior imprisoned them in was damaged in the Prometheus comet’s collision with the ocean floor,” Zordon explained, as ALPHA 5 floated up from the back of the chamber.

“Nearly forty-five minutes ago, our satellite system alerted us to a tactical group, off the coast of New Zealand, who discovered the ruins of the grand city of the Ausaria, where the Gorma lie dormant,” ALPHA added.

“Those look like EAGLE soldiers,” Trini Kwan noted. Billy sighed and walked up to the main panel.

“Yeah, I noticed that,” he said, drawn in by the crimson eagle bearing the world insignia of the Earth Guard League that had been painted on the team’s DPVs.

“You are correct, Rangers. Irregardless of the Earth Guard League’s involvement, you must go to New Zealand and investigate the newest readings of the unknown energy source that is now active in the depths of the city,” Zordon instructed.

“EAGLE must have got the same readings,” Kimberly Hart deducted. Adam Park nodded.

“But why would troops from the United States block be in New Zealand? New Zealand would fall under the jurisdiction of the Australian block,” he commented, recognizing the US flag on the tactical boat displayed on the view screen. Zordon considered the situation for a moment.

“There is a shroud of darkness falling over the Morphing Grid . . . this is no doubt the result of the discovery of the holding place of the Gorma. Please, use extreme caution, Power Rangers . . . the city is also home to a great power, forged from crystalline energy sources, and is heavily guarded,” Zordon explained. Jason made a determined fist and stepped up.

“We understand, Zordon,” he replied. Zack Taylor quickly spoke up.

“I’m not so sure, Jason . . . the last thing we want to do is get on those guys’ radar. After all, they were founded with the explicit purpose of eliminating all alien activity on the Earth . . . after the Dekaran . . .” Zack began before Jason cut him off.

“No, this is our responsibility. Pack your bags, guys . . . we’re moving out,” The Red Ranger ordered. Zack suppressed his argument and accepted the order from his leader.

THE RISING STORM

As the world is stunned by the shocking revelation of the identity of the Power Rangers ...

"Colonel Macluran, I understand you have positively identified the fugitives known better as the Power Rangers?” Ms. Cornell asked, holding the microphone towards the aged veteran.

“That’s right Ms. Cornell . . . we have learned their civilian identities and are currently preparing a strike force to detain these terrorists. Anyone harboring these fugitives will face criminal prosecution as well,” The Colonel answered.

The bonds of friendship are broken ...

Jason sighed and shook his head. He came to the heartbreaking conclusion that his long time friend was apparently no longer fit to serve by his side and protect the Earth from the forces of evil.

“Give me your morpher.” The words rang out like a shotgun blast in the Power Chamber.

As an ancient evil rises from the depths ...

The Hunters watched as a storm of vortexes cut through the water, rising all the way to the surface. Colonel Macluran watched in horror as the vortexes rose into the air, the ocean rising like a nest of serpents. The spiraling walls of water touched the sky as nickel-sized hail fell to the deck of the command vessel. The skies above the Cavalli Islands opened up, the clouds burning with a supernatural fire that spit bolts of lightning at the waters below.

My apologies to all ... as now, I have 30 days to relocate from the house we were renting ... the main issue is we can't rent or buy anywhere else until we know where my wife is going to be working at when school starts ... without anything gauranteed, we have to wait for her to hear something, so that will definitely put a delay on this story continuation ... just remember, as I keep trying to tell myself ... the best is yet to come.

Finally got a chance to sit down and read through the first three chapters in detail and I must say that I enjoy what I have been reading so far. A subtle, yet personal favorite of mine is the nods to past figures in the PRU by way of their actor, Ranger, or executive names.

As for the story, I've always been a firm believer that the sequels are never as good as the originals for the most part. Some works have disproved this theory but for the most part, it stands firm. I can't put Rising Storm in the category of beating that norm, but I can say that it is well on its way.

Interesting touch with switching Yellow and Blue, following the path of NS and MF. The Showdown with the Hunters vs. the Rangers was well done. I was going to say more, but I notice that you just put up two more chapters, so I'll finish this as soon as I'm done with those. Oh and job well done!

THE POWER RANGERS SAGA

THE RISING STORM

An evil as old as civilization has awakened ...

Behind the Red SGS Hunter, a three-dimensional map of Angel Grove hovered above a projection table.

“Alright, let’s get started,” Will began, the other Hunters dropping their conversations. “Last night, at 1800 hours, the force identified as the Gorma encountered the . . . Power Rangers . . . and were defeated. Our intelligence indicates that this was merely a scouting party, sent to survey the land and its defenses. However, for whatever reason, we know their target is Angel Grove City."

And the Rangers face growing prejudice ...

The scanner of the Power Scope fed the information into Jason’s heads-up display in his visor, indicating the presence of four other officers in the living room, through the wall of the kitchen. Jason focused on their location and burst forward again, leaving a smoking cinder in the tiled floor of the kitchen. Soon after subduing the four officers, he landed a few feet away from Lt. Stone. Jason’s feet touched the floor for a brief second, before he struck the plain clothes officer.

“Clear right!” a voice came from the front of the house. Jason turned to face three of the STAR officers as they poured in. Bullets from the rifles bounced off the Dragon Shield, the sparks spilling across Jason’s visor. He instinctively ducked and flashed forward, stunning the three men.

Dude your story is blowing me away. I've read Fire and Ice, Rumblings, and i'm on the fifth chapter of Rising Storm! I just find the characters so intriguing. And what's up with Zack, blowing up like that? I thought that you focus a little too much on Tommy and Jason in the last story, it's good to get more from the remaining four.

THE RISING STORM

The battle lines have been drawn ...

“My brothers, my blood . . . the time for us to realize our destiny is upon us . . . the world that was once dark and barren and is now full of life and opportunity will be ours for the taking . . . there is only one force that stands between us and the providence of our absolute fate . . . the Power Rangers,” General Shadam declared.

As the battle for Earth ...

“We’ve got company . . .” Adam shouted, watching the SGS Hunters racing across the parking lot of the Celestion complex.

Heats up!

Vadu and Kalrena reveled in the violence their hordes of Dasa Knights perpetrated against the Rangers. Adam Park watched helplessly as his Blade Blaster was knocked loose and smashed beneath the storming Gorma soldiers. He found the Pink and Yellow Rangers in the sea of stinking soldiers, desperately fending off the Dasa. The Blue Ranger fought his way through the sea of Dasa before a command from the Noyan echoed over the battlefield.

"Destroy them all."

Apologies for taking so long in putting a response here, but college finals have been an unceasing absorber of my time. I have just gotten the chance to read what is here for Rising Storm and I gotta say, I am loving it so far. I look forward to seeing how you handle the Thunder Zords, white ranger, and the Ninjetti powers.

It's also great to see more than one ranger team active with hints of others. I had always wondered how only the one team could be defending earth at any one time, and having multiple teams running around is an incredibly interesting twist.

My only real curiosity in all of this is why Zack acted as rashly as he did back in Australia. Maybe I skimmed over things a little quicker than I thought, but he seemed to jump right into disobeying the rules of the power than I would have expected.

All in all, I'm eagerly awaiting the next update to see what happens. Keep up the excellent work.

Sorry to dissapoint, but no Ninjetti powers in this universe ... but you can expect the ThunderZords and the White Ranger.

As far as other Ranger teams operating together, yeah, that was a concept that I originally had planned on bringing together with a bunch of Ranger teams, but sadly, that idea has been shot down ... maybe one day, tho ...

Okay, now to Zack ... Zack, in my stories, is really rash and eager ... and lets his emotions get the best of him. It may not be canon, but its what you can expect from him here. I'm glad you enjoyed the story ...

And that's probably one of the things that makes this story stand out from the original MMPR and other MMPR fanfics. If this had been like the others, then the same thing would have happened, but instead it would have been Jason or Tommy being the culprit and not Zack. It a good thing to have when we the readers have instances like this where we go, "Wow, I didn't expect that." It makes for some great reading down the line and for that, I say kudos Sir Patrick. :D

Thanks bro ... actually, things are taking quite an unexpected turn because I plan on concluding the Saga with the next story, tentatively titled "Into the Mouth of Hell" ... I need to wrap things up in a way that not only does the characters justice, but also entertains and keeps you all satisfied as well. I may have said things in the past about a specific MMPR character, but I've learned now to never say never ... well, I'm off, I've got such a headache ... hmmmm ....

Mr. Silver

I remember either on here or RB where I thought you mentioned progressing with a Zeo part of the saga and concluding with Space. If that has changed or I just misunderstood, then what power will we be seeing in "Into the Mouth of Hell"

BattleRanger
07-26-2009, 02:16 PM
ZEO is something I really want to do ... but to continue with my original hero story, I just can't see taking the Saga past one more story. I think I have established a strong continuity here with the Saga and if one were interested in writing in that continuity to continue the story along other lines, I wouldn't be against it, as long as I had a hand in helping create the storylines ...

I don't necessarily see a powerup needed for the next story either ... the Dairanger powers from The Rising Storm should still be in tact ... a lot is in the air for now, but I don't see bringing about the Ninjetti powers ...

For ZEO, I have a great concept for the Bacchus (Machine) Empire ... and for the ZEO powers themselves ... but like I said above, I won't be following that story myself, but I welcome any writer to apply for my approval to write such a story in my continuity.

Back to the matter at hand. Even if you decide against the Ninjetti powers, is there a chance to see either the Ninja or Shogun Zords in Pt. 3?

I have nothing else to say but, "Wow." You're story is progressing in way that I didn't see coming. And to hear that you're going to end it after the next one kind of disappoints me. There's only a few stories that keep me very interested and this is one of them.

Now, I love how you incorporate the Super Sentai aspect to the story. I try hard to find those in the story all the time.

You do a great job on this story so keep it up!

In short, no. No Frog Zords or Ape Zords. Sorry ... I never once used the NinjaZords even during the Saga's first draft, which went on through the ZEO storyline ... back then, I had subsituted them with a new class called TitanZords ... but all of that is moot at this point.

Sorry to dissapoint you, but you keep watching and I promise you that if you loved anything to do with the PR Saga you'll love my original story, the Striker Saga ...

I'm also glad to meet someone who appreciates my sentai references in here ... I do that to make the story richer without straying too far out of accepted PR/SS continuity ...

Hehe, I knew there were going to be some people here going"wha!? Zack did NOT just do that!? When did he become so brash"
I kinda have a theory, even thoough you stated he was like that before at the beginning: in the years since Fire and Ice EAGLE came up. So maybe their presence (and purpose) has finally gotten to our Black Ranger...
Am I close? Either way nice job with Zack.

BattleRanger
07-26-2009, 04:51 PM
Well, yeah, there are three years since the last story that have passed in this continuity ... a lot of room for Zack to grow fed up with the government's interest in eliminating the Rangers and stopping their efforts at protecting the world. That, and my interpretation of the character, really made this the natural reaction for the PR Saga Zack.

Fair enough. My next thing is how the shift to the new powers will be done. I'm curious to see how that will be handled. Do you plan on giving all six of them their new powers at once or give the first five their new powers and then get Tommy his later?

BattleRanger

Ah, you must be patient, grasshopper ... all will be revealed in time ... I'm definitely going the opposite route of how the show was handled, tho ...

I have nothing but love for the fanfic community ... but in all honestly, it is time to move on ... concluding the story with the third part of the trilogy is only something I'm considering to do for the fans ... right now, I'm developing the ending to The Rising Storm while writing the first bit of my original story.

Mr. Silver
07-26-2009, 07:20 PM

BattleRanger

Its pretty similar ... but I never used Rita and a lot of these ideas were already laying around, it just takes someone like myself and this writer to recognize the potential in these ideas and exploit them. Besides, its hard to be upset over someone ripping off an idea that wasn't mine in the first place.

Just to move things along, I will probably post a new Chapter before the month is up. I think we're at a climatic point following this battle against the Gorma, but until I get my desktop fixed, I can't finish the story or add much needed (IMO) bios to the database concerning the Gorma and any other new characters. I have some revisions I'm considering and I don't want to run to the end of what's written if those revisions will edit past posts.

So until then, I will work on a new promo highlighting some of the spots from the upcoming chapter.

THE RISING STORM

The enemy has struck a devastating blow ...

“. . . and you can see behind me the columns of smoke pouring out of the Celestion Center complex . . . okay, I’m being told we’ve received footage shot from our camera crew aboard the Civil Defense Rescue choppers . . . and I’m being told that it contains what appears to be the destruction of the Power Rangers. Okay, we’re going to this footage, received just minutes ago . . .” the male reporter stated, as the television screen switched to a shaky, almost distorted image of the five Power Rangers being blasted by Zydos Vadu and Gara Kalrena. With the energy discharge, the sound on the footage distorted as the image began to shake uncontrollably before fading to static.

And the world falls into chaos ...

“We already have reports of rioting in the northside of the commercial district . . . with the National Guard busy creating a perimeter in the downtown area, we’re at a disadvantage,” Commissioner Crandall reported.

“What you expect me to do here, Will?” Mayor Carrington asked.

“I never thought I’d actually wish those costumed vigilantes weren’t dead . . . we’re in no way prepared to deal with this . . .” Police Chief William Braxton admitted, mostly to himself.

THE RISING STORM

The future of Angel Grove is in peril . . .

The tired and aching Hunters sat upright on the floor of the cabin, their ears still ringing from the battlefield far behind them.

“We’re currently at Level Black Critical status . . . it looks like the President is ready to cut off the peninsula from the rest of the world by any means necessary and declare the downtown Angel Grove area a ‘No Man’s Land’.”

And as the Rangers face their most darkest hour . . .

“No, let’s do more than remember him . . . let’s honor him, not as a fallen teammate, not as a life that was lost . . . but as a Ranger. Let us honor him by reciting the Oath of the Rangers,” he instructed. The Oath had been something that Zordon had passed down to the Rangers following their victory over Lord Zedd and the Immortal Vast . . . and each of them had committed the vows to their hearts.

“We stand against dark forces no one will face . . . we stand across worlds, as chains of peace . . . we stand for freedom against prejudice . . . we live for justice . . . and die for its defense . . . we are . . . Rangers of the Power,” they recited together.

An old friend returns . . .

“You will assume the powers in my stead. Do you accept all that is mine, the power to save your world, to save your friends?” the voice asked. Tommy considered the weight of the question for a moment. Before he could answer, his eyes slowly opened, revealing a tall, muscular form standing before him, glowing with a golden aura, holding a white saber out towards him. He reached out and took the weapon.

“I accept.”

Great work with Chapter Nine!
The pacing feels even and the interaction between characters is cohesive. We're slowly peering deeper into each of the characters involved and it makes the overall plot more realistic -- a forethought rather than a mere overhang to place subplots and character focus chapters/episodes.

THE RISING STORM

As a new power is discovered . . .

Jason breathed deep, knowing full well the consequences of returning to New Zealand, this time, without the protection of their powers. Unbeknownst to him, the call echoed the one given to Tommy, the person that Jason had considered to be his equal in just about all areas of strength and skill. His own answer mirrored that of the Green Ranger.

"We accept." As Jason declared the team's intent to claim the power of the Ausarians, fleeting memories of his childhood with Zack and of his time as a Ranger flooded his mind. Finding his emotional resolve, he choked the images back down. There will be a time for mourning, he told himself, but it will have to wait.

The battle for Angel Grove heats up . . .

"They have come for us . . . show them why that was a mistake," the figure boomed. Tommy swung the saber, feeling the might of the suit in his muscles. As he dove towards the Tulpars, he angled Saba towards the skull of the lead Rotoran.

"Jut-si-kiyah!" Tommy cried as blade met bone.

But not everything is as it seems . . .

"Have a seat," President Mitchell said, indicating a chair opposite of the Resolute Desk. "I will be meeting with Governor Agular and Senator Manning at Camp David tomorrow to personally discuss the finer points of Executive Order 11921," President Mitchell replied. While there was no way of knowing how Senator Manning would react to such a personal and unprecedented invitation, Mitchell knew that it was only a matter of time . . . and effort . . . before Manning would be convinced that Angel Grove was beyond saving.

THE RISING STORM

As ancient shadows give way to truth . . .

"Like hyenas mocking the kill of a pride, they encircled me and brought forth allegations that I had called a retreat out of my own cowardice. The Emperor . . . he offered me a chance to become the next Jang of his armies . . . but only if I were to cut you down and stand in your place. When I refused in a most colorful way, he dealt me the deathblow. That was my last memory before I awoke as an intangible and lost soul, as easily disregarded as the mist of early morn." Visnu felt his blood boil in his veins, as he unsheathed the Kessen sword.

Evil regroups itself . . .

The Noyan grinned as sparks of energy played along the tips of his fingers. He scoffed and turned to the younger Gorma.

"Let us to show them how it's done, my dear . . ." he proposed. The two Gorma generals stretched their arms out at the sea of Rotoran corpses that littered the waterfront.

"Ogunn, Rolden, Atuan . . . Volac, Roka, Kargaad!" they canted. The sparks that burst from the Gormas' fingers snaked forward, striking the dead warrior wraiths. The putrid, decaying flesh began to draw together, twisting and assembling into a towering, bipedal figure that stood nearly level with the SGS Explorer.

THE RISING STORM

As the Rangers seek out a power beyond imagination ...

Jason assumed a defensive posture and spun around to witness the avatar of the Harvest god standing in the entrance to the Urshu Valley. Red tendrils of energy held the emotionless visage to its stone body, which was supported by two limbs composed of the same blood-red wisps of light. Adam noticed the large scythe in the statue's right hand and turned back to Billy.

"Okay, what did we do to piss him off?" Kimberly cried.

"Apparently, Arakin is guarding the temple . . . trying to ward off all who would seek the power of the Ausarians," Billy explained. Before the Rangers could find shelter, the mindless statue was quickly on top of them, its sickle stabbing close to where the Red Ranger had just been standing.

"It's quite effective!" Jason shouted, shifting in the water and coming up between the statue's crimson legs. Billy rushed up the steps to the Great Door and felt for any sort of lever or release to gain entrance.

The battle for Angel Grove heats up!

The TigerZord lurched forward, into the air, as the armor panels of its thighs shifted backwards, over its rear legs. The upper body of the machine then rotated downward, revealing a mechanical head that shifted up, its visage set into a determined and staid scowl. Instantly, the arms flexed, the Zord now a humanoid war machine.

"Behind you are seven attack orbs . . . choose carefully, for each attack represents the seven Ausarian elements: the moon, fire, water, wood, metal, earth, and the sun. You can also combine the elements to produce unique attack forms as well," Saba instructed. Tommy thought for a long second and grabbed the fire and moon orbs.

"Now, place the orbs into the accelerator below your main control sphere. Name your attack accordingly . . . for you are its creator," Saba continued. Dropping the orbs into the gaping ring, Tommy cried out, "White Tiger Thunderbolt!" The Tiger warrior fanned its arms out as the mouth of the Tiger belched a furious fireball that streaked across the waterfront and slammed into the hideous Volac.

As I was going back to look at the last parts I had written of The Rising Storm, a startling and heartbreaking discovery befell me ... the last few chapters, where the Rangers secured their new powers and battled a villain from the Dairanger show were completely gone. I have lost a few files recently, due to some problems with Windows Vista, and apparently, I didn't know the extent of the loss.

As of right now, I don't see how I could ever write it as good as it was ... my version of a unique Dairanger villain, as well as the way the Rangers first used their powers was something I was especially proud of ... and it is beyond depressing to find that its gone.

I'm not saying this is the end ... but I just don't have the inspiration to compose these scenes again, which were some of the best I think I had every written.

THE STORM RETURNS

As Angel Grove faces its darkest hour . . .

"The citizens of Angel Grove will have a period of twelve hours to evacuate the Peninsula . . . at the end of which, all remaining citizens will be detained for their safety and rerouted to designated areas until cleared by proper authorities. I repeat, starting at eight o’ clock PM, Eastern Standard Time, you will have twelve hours to leave the area of the Levy Peninsula. May God be with the people of Angel Grove in this twilight of its glory. Thank you.” President Mitchell concluded.

New enemies . . .

The shadows of night bathed the lone figure in darkness, moonlight spilling across its scaly form. A dozen armored, humanoid soldiers flanked the dark form as they continued their perimeter sweep.

“The power that comes to my heart . . .” the monstrosity sang, his voice barely a whisper on the breeze. “. . . I’m taking care of him for now . . . behind some childish words . . . there was this feeling of loneliness.” Dapan, the lead Rotoran, recognized the melody as a Gorma lullaby he had heard as a child. He already knew the legend of the Fell One, the creature, who bore the human name of Baron Tol Himo . . . but to behold the sight of the abomination with his own eyes was an experience he would not soon forget.

And unlikely allies arise . . .

“Mr. Cardenas . . .” Rocky mouthed in shock. The tall, slender man with receding brown hair and sporting a dark blue suit took a seat next to Rocky.

Following a deep sigh, Steve composed himself to confront the teen. “You know what’s keeping you from sharing a cell with those good-for-nothing cousins of yours?” Before Rocky could respond, Jon replied, “Me.”

But not everything is as it seems . . .

"I had hoped that it wouldn’t come to this . . . but not everyone is as conscious of what is required to bring peace to the world as I am . . ." Mitchell stated coldly as he began to leave the room.

"You son of a ...!" Manning cursed. "You'll never get away with this!"

Turning back to the now restrained officials, President Mitchell resounded his determination. "I already have."

The power returns . . .

“It’s morphing time!” Jason commanded, thrusting the activator key into the receiver device. A flicker of crimson light spilled across his forearm as the two halves connected before the Rangers were consumed by a brilliant halo of energy.

Baron Himo cursed as the energy burned through his arms, severing them from the ends that bound the Rangers. A final burst of energy knocked the mutant flat on his back as the Rotorans rushed to his side. The very air around them seemed to crackle with electricity as the arcing faded to a low hum. Dapan cursed as the energy dissipated, as the teens slowly descended to the top of the waterfront’s access stairs. As they landed, the Rangers shed the energy, revealing their new power suits.

I'm gonna watch the first two eps of Ohranger, subbed, and see if it helps spark any inspiration. I already know where I want to take the story so hopefully, I can wrap it up with a fourth installment, but watching Sentai, as with The Rising Storm, always helps spark new ideas.

So the CW has officially canceled Kamen Rider: Dragon Knight. It looks like the end of American toku has finally arrived. This really sucks ... I loved Dragon Knight, but I have to agree that some eps felt especially weak. Overall, tho, it was a great alternative to what we had gotten used to seeing with Power Rangers. It really reminded me of the first seasons of MMPR, especially with some of the filming locations. We're poorer without this show.

So, any KRDK elements/plotlines reggistered in your mind?

Getting ready to check the Database. Have you considered a Fire and Ice section and The Rising Storm section in entries that may require it?

BattleRanger
12-12-2009, 05:28 PM
I may, but then the Database area of Fire and Ice would be missing parts, otherwise, I'd have duplicates of some entries ... I don't think the distinction is that important.

As far as KRDK elements, I always wanted to do a darker version, borrowing elements from the movie Mirrors as well ... but I've got too many irons in the fire as is, so that's just gonna stay back in my mind at least until I get out of the PR Saga.

ShadowDragonRanger

Doggone it! Knew you were gonna throw Mirrors into the equation. Loved the premise of the film but execution felt flimsy. Applied to DK, that's genuine nightmare fuel!!

Iplanned on doing an adaptation but I don't think it would work (think Megaman Axxess (basically the 'cross-fusion' aspect and Advent Drives)).

Thanks ... okay, this is a discussion for everyone here, so I'd like to get everyone's thoughts on a few things ... how many of you would like to see a fanfic that chronicled the rise of the Ranger powers on Eltar, as well as Zordon and Zedd's early years? Also, what parts of the PR Saga do you want to see expanded? There is a lot of room for backstory and I'd like to see which parts you, the fans, would like to see covered.

(I'm laughing at the prospect that I'm practically co-running this thread (unintentionally).)
Of course I'd love to see an extensive account of the Eltarian War as well as Zordon and Zedd's rivalry! As for other subjects: I'd have to think about that...
Maybe a bit more analysis of EAGLE, Black Cross and the Goranger project (though Black Cross and the Gorangers aren't relevent).

Hmm, that's an interesting thing. How about seeing more about the symbiotes that bond with the rangers. I love how that dragon randomly came to the boys when the failed. Does that happen to all of the rangers with they lose the suits protection, and I'd like to hear more about the ones it happened to.

BattleRanger

Sure, Shadow, that's fine with me ... in fact, I welcome any and all to throw me their questions concerning even the most technical aspect of the PR Saga.

As far as the Dragon Ranger symbiote, it wasn't what drove Heath to suicide ... his separation sickness and mental health drove him to those delusions ... as far as it happening to any of our current heroes, we'll just have to see what happens. ;-)

Just a quick question for fans not only of my works but of the show itself ... if there was an origins fanfic written about the origins of characters such as Zordon and the birth of the concept of the Ranger team, what would you want to see? Please be a specific as possible and feel free to reference any movie, novel, show, or fanfic in your answer.

Psychosilver
01-09-2010, 10:20 PM
Well, I can tell you first off, you should keep it canon to your story. Play off all the tidbits that you gave us before about him. I think you said something about him being a Wildcat Ranger? A Wildforce or something of that style I suppose. Show how Zedd and Zordon began to drift. And maybe he had a love interest of some sorts. That would be great.

I get a Battlestar Galactica feel from your story (taking a choppy original storyline and turning it into an excellent piece of work through your re-imagining), So maybe keep that epic feel. Maybe make it even more so, since you'll fave an all out war going on.

BattleRanger

All I'm gonna say is that I'm working right now on a piece of conceptual writing that could expand into a prequel to the PR Saga stories we've seen thus far. An origins tale of our characters, that would introduce a young Zordon and Zedd and their struggles and adventures that drive their fates to what we already know from Fire and Ice. There's very few people I will trust to share this piece of writing with ... but to those people, I will now offer an invitation to critique what I've written thus far.

I think I'd like to see a closer look at the prospect of a "living" Morphing Grid. Perhaps the origin of the Power Weapons and suits... (I'll add more if I can think of them)

BattleRanger
01-13-2010, 09:03 AM
The idea of a 'living' Morphing Grid isn't one I've established in the canon of my stories ... instead, the living force you're referring to is closer to The Power energy field ... while the Morphing Grid was a way to channel and focus this force ... it is a separate dimensional plane, one maintained and monitored by complex computer systems found in the command center and on several places on the planet Eltar ...

The Power Weapons, as well, are a new addition to the Ranger concept ... the combination of items, such as weapons and Zords, into greater weapons is a very modern application, one first implemented by a Ranger team when Zordon brought the Rangers together in Fire and Ice.

As far as power suits go, you'll probably see their creation in an origins story, as well as the evolution from traditional armor to these portable defense systems.

Nice promo.
I wanted to get back to F&I. I generally liked your conclusion to the first entry into the "Saga" but in retrospect I felt some things could've been handled differently. This is just me though.
Just a couple of examples (please pardon the wording):
-I felt Jason's facing Cyclopsis eye-to-eye (pun) was a bit out there. Was that a reference to the fight he had with the giant heart on the show?
-Tommy's battle felt like a fitting bookend, though I'm half-perplexed by the IV's retreat in response to Lord Zedd's demise. But it's reasonable, they lost their general.

Have you considered aspects of this ending when planning the ending for Rising Storm?

BattleRanger
01-15-2010, 01:25 AM
The ending I have in mind for RS is a bit similar, but I also plan on quickly introducing elements of the third story, Into The Mouth of Hell, as well- a bit of a cliffhanger so to speak. While F&I wrapped things up and stood on its on, RS is going to be very open-ended, just by the nature of it being the second act in this continuing saga.

As far as Jason taking out Cyclopsis's eye, it wasn't as much of an homage to Cardiotron as it was a logical, IMO, way to take down something like that. I wrote myself into a corner as I built up Cyclopsis as this indestructible force and had to come up with a way to bring him down. The idea of the fact that the only time he exposes himself is when he gets ready to fire upon something, I thought, provided a very dramatic way to bring his character to an end.

I hear ya, too, on the retreat of the Immortal Vast- its a plot that I've seen in several works before and it was a very convenient way to wrap up their invasion of the Earth and, logically, it made sense when you realize that Zedd's agenda with Zordon wasn't really shared by the Immortal Vast, as seen by Emperor Nereus. His agenda was more concerning the delivery of the Earth and with both him and his unofficial predecessor dead, I imagine that some bureaucrat ordered the forces back to their homeworld to deal with more 'at home' issues.

Okay guys, I need you once again to step up to a creative challenge ...

What do you want out of a prequel fanfic for the PRU (more specifically, the PR Saga)?

I have two very basic concepts for the first Rangers ever to have existed ... they wouldn't have used Morphers, but in all fairness, I don't think they would have needed devices, amulets or otherwise, to morph. They would have been shapeshifters, IMO, who would have chosen or been given an animal spirit protector at the time of their initiation into the Ranger order.

As far as battling, their fighting styles, weapons, etc would have distinguished them as Rangers ... but in all reality, what makes a Ranger a Ranger is his/her ability to draw power from a source and to physically transform.

One of the eras I'm wanting to cover would be a time where the power suits as we know them would not exist ... instead, these would be skilled warriors in armor who would transform to do battle as their answer to a threat.

The part that has troubled me is the extent of their transformation ... they could, like in the Twilight series, fully transform into a new creature, an avatar of their animal spirit ... or they could simply take on some features of their animals. For example, if their spirit was an eagle, they would gain super sight and wings, maybe ...

You are the fan here, you are the ones who at the end of the day, beyond me, should be pleased. Either way, I am content with the story, but what do you want to see?

ShadowDragonRanger
01-23-2010, 04:30 PM
I like it. I'd also like to see the transformation undergo various stages (part-beast, then maybe anthropomorphism); maybe a struggle between someone's humanity and the primal instinct, an addiction to the change or power the change brings. (You caught me at a good point: brain-hurricane! lol)

Okay, now I understand what your giong for. I get it. I like the idea of them gaining the manerisms of the beast that they are connected to. I'm not sure about complete transformations though. Oh, and since ShadowDragonRanger brought that stuff up, I have a question too.

Still testing the waters here, I wanted to post this and see what response I get.

The great wars left much of my world burnt and in darkness. It is a troublesome thought, for a people with no antiquity, a race robbed of hallowed songs of heroes and bereft of traditions. What culture our people can manage is mined from the ever looming shadow of the lost ages, merely nameless ghosts of a world now spoiled of its grandeur. As the free people of Eltar attempt to realize a semblance of the civilization that eludes them even in their dreams, I find myself torn between duty to the throne of the Altarn Kingdom and the chance to protect the Sovereign Laon Tribes as the first Knor Ranger in a thousand years, a title not spoken in my land for over forty generations. Even more alluding to popular cognizance is the fact that the Knor Rangers served a mystical energy field they called ‘The Power’ and that their kind vanished from the face of Eltar not soon after defeating the invading forces of the Dairakun Knights. Such knowledge could change the world …

From the journal of Prince Altus-Zordon, Archivist of the Pre-Monarch Era.

***

The Dormu Plains . . .

Knor Master Jebus Olin had stared death in the face on numerous occasions. Whether it had been at the Siege of Voad Summit or the ten-year-long Datho Crusades, he had regarded his fate with a steely eyed determination that had made him one of the most celebrated heroes of the Knor fold. Dressed head to toe in armor bearing a striking resemblance to the scaly hide of his spirit protector, the great Rell Dragon, Master Olin commanded the forward armies of the Northern Guard and wielded the Saber of Ondorin. Forged from moonsteel, a rare alloy forged from pieces of a meteorite which heralded the victory of the Knor Masters at the Siege of Voad Summit, the Saber had been blessed by the legendary Knor Master, Zor-Furon. In the hands of an experienced swordsman such as Olin, however, it was a harbinger of death.

The hard lines of Master Olin’s face split the shadow beneath his decorated battle helmet as the oncoming wave of Dairakun Knights rushed across the marshes of the Dormu Valley, seated in the shadow of the ever present Dormu Summit.

“Hold formation . . . swords at front . . . and may the Power protect us!” Master Olin called down the front. A thunderous chorus of battle-cries echoed across the wall of tribal-hued warriors from all corners of the Eltarian nations. Archers near the rear of the Knor forces released a rain of death upon the advancing Dairakun Knights, some having chosen the most minimal of their traditional armors as much for maneuverability as arrogance.

Like a wave of vulgar violence, the Dairakun Knights poured past the storm of the Knor front, leaving shattered blades, shields, and bodies in the wake of the clash. The general of the Dairakun forces, Kor-Mul, caught sight of the Knor Master’s emerald garments and dismounted his Tund steed.

“Curse you, Olin!” Kor-Mul called out defiantly, his thunderous voice carrying over the carnage that boiled around them. In the time since the Siege of Voad Summit, Olin and Kor-Mul had become more than acquainted . . . noble and wise, Master Olin had only desired to see the Dairakun return to their darkened world of Andus, while Kor-Mul, the twisted and deranged general of the Crimson Horde, second only to Emperor Tor-Adas, sought to abort the spread of Eltarian culture across the Numnor system at its source and plunge the world of the Knor Rangers into eternal darkness. The mere sight of the Knor Master swept the Dairakun Lord into a frenzy, his very bones aching for retribution for his defeat at Voad.

“Kor-Mul, there will be no victory for your kind . . . I demand that you draw back your forces to the void you were spurned from . . .” Master Olin ordered, cutting through the Dairakun waves.

“Even in the dark refuge of chaos, the obscene words of your masters poisons the shadows with splinters of your dogma . . . only when the realm is cleansed of your kind will my brethren find rest,” Kor-Mul returned boldly. Seconds later, the two field marshals clashed, the tempered blade of the Saber of Ondorin finding the bow of Kor-Mul’s Staff of Ragnos. The two weapons feverishly sought to overcome the other in brilliant bursts of energy that split the very ground beneath the two warriors.

“I offer you this one final chance, Kor . . . fall back and you and your brethren will be spared,” Olin offered, blocking a high advance from the hollow-eyed Dairakun. As Kor-Mul spun on the heel of his foot, he saw the unsure footing of his opponent and capitalized, knocking Olin into the shallow waters of the bog-land.

Regarding his seemingly vanquished enemy with loathing eyes, Kor-Mul cursed at Olin. “Save your pity for the dead!”

“So be it,” Olin returned. With all of his might, Olin drew his legs into his chest and thrust his feet out of the brackish water, the momentum of his motion propelling his body back to a vertical stance. Shocked by the Knor Master’s agility, Kor-Mul could only watch as Olin closed his eyes and knelt, not in reverence, but in anticipation of the transformation that would consume his form.

“Power of the protector, consume thy form! By the power of the Rell Dragon, shall I be reborn!” Olin cried. A festooning arc of emerald light bolted across the horizon and struck the Knor Master’s body, searing into the facets of the armor that covered his flesh. Howling in intense, but temporary pain, Olin’s Laon features morphed into a more feral, reptilian visage. Muscles rippled with mystical strength as the Dairakun general shrunk away in fear.

“Rangers, form up!” Master Olin ordered. Across the swamp, the remaining Knor Rangers called upon their own respective protector spirits, chosen at the moment of their baptism into the order. The storm of energy swept down through the raging battle like the maw of a great beast consuming its prey, bestowing the sacred powers of the animal spirits upon their bearers.

As of late, I have been, tho, writing a good bit on my original story, which is tentatively called The Striker Saga. It is my attempt to create an original hero story, similar to Tokusatsu heroes, Power Rangers, and classic American superheros. I have a pretty original plot, which has to do with an alien weapon being handed down through out the generations- but when an unsuspecting man finds himself at the center of an alien invasion, his birthright as the champion of the powers is revealed.

I won't give away too many specifics of the plot, but it mirrors some of my favorite PR, Toku, and classic sci-fi / fantasy themes and concepts. I'd love to be able to share it with you all, but without a copyright, I can't see myself doing so. If you enjoyed Fire and Ice or The Rising Storm, I believe you will enjoy The Striker Saga even more.

To be cliched, the best is yet to come. I promise.

Been too long without an update- and I know this isn't going to be a popular decision, but as of right now, I have decided not to continue ANY fanfic writing, as I am really working hard on my original Striker Saga stories.

I'm not gonna say 'never', as I could see myself returning for a break from my own stories, to either reap or sow some creative ideas- but my focus is going to be on own original stories and characters.

For a lot of you who enjoyed my fanfics, I'm certain you'll enjoy my stories. I don't yet know if I'll be posting anything online here, but in the meantime, I hope you'll enjoy this summary/teaser.

The Striker Saga
The Rising Storm

High School senior Matt Morrison dreams of a life greater than that of the status quo - and quickly finds himself at the center of an alien invasion that threatens to destroy all that he knows. Faced with his destiny, Matt must choose to watch his world burn . . . or accept the awesome responsibility of his unique heritage.

Leading Earth's invasion is the vicious war criminal, Lord Drael, who has come to seek out the one whose birthright could bring his reign of terror to an end. But an even greater danger is rising. A clandestine order of men of power, as old as recorded time itself, sets events into motion that may shift the balance of the war for Earth's freedom into a direction that will bring all of mankind to its knees.

It is our darkest hour . . .

It is our greatest hope . . .

I don't know if this means a full return, but I would really like to finish the story. Finishing it wasn't anything born out of inspiration for writing- it was simply retracing my steps from more than three years ago.
