Thanks Kev, but what I'm really concerned about right now is the big riot downtown...what kind of fans would start this s*** up? Boston won the Cup fair and square, but do the fans have to really react?!
It's a good thing I'm at home and not in the downtown area, otherwise I would've been killed there...
Oh, and if you wanna check the situation out live, here's a live clip here: http://watch.ctv.ca/news/clip485355#clip485355

Bostons fans have full right to brag and be happy. Its life, its a part of sports. yes its serious in Vancouver but that shouldn't take away the joy from Bruins being champions.

I'm not taunting really. Just a jab or sorts to tell them to stop rioting and being ridiculous. Now we have to make sure we get a CLEAN celebration in Boston.....

Funny how Calgary fans never did this after the 2004 loss. Vancouver must be worse kind of hockey fans from canada.

^what i meant, is that there have been much worse riots in recent history. A lot of the people who riot tend to be fairweather fans. Thats what annoyed me about this series. The fairweather fans bashing each others teams and the comments made by your goalie. Both teams played well, one was just a bit hungrier.

Mark Recchi to retire after just winning Stanley Cup
There aren’t many professional athletes who can look back at the final game of their playing careers with the same amount of positivity as Mark Recchi will. The Boston Bruins forward confirmed the expectations of many by announcing his retirement shortly after his team won the Stanley Cup in Game 7.
He didn’t win the Cup as some lucky bystander, either; he scored seven points in the Stanley Cup finals series and 14 points in 25 playoff games overall. He earned an assist and an impressive +3 rating in Game 7 while skating alongside Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand.
Every player has his regrets, but Recchi enjoyed an outstanding 22-year career in the NHL. He won three Stanley Cups: one in his first playoff run in 1991 with the Pittsburgh Penguins, one after being traded to the Carolina Hurricanes in 2006 and this triumph with Boston. Recchi will finish his distinguished career with 1,533 points in 1,652 regular season games and 147 points in 189 career playoff contests.
Are those the numbers of a Hall of Fame player?
Whether he makes the Hockey Hall of Fame or not (I would bet that he does), Recchi produced a fantastic career. That’s something he can reflect on in retirement, though. Tonight, he’s simply going to spend one more night doing what’s likely one of his favorite things: celebrating a big win with his teammates.

In my opinion its cool. Great player and he is retiring as a champion. he is going out as a champion and on top of world.

A lot of Facebook pages are springing up to help identify rioters and bring them to justice. :) Also there will be a big clean-up effort tomorrow morning in the downtown core. I'm glad there are people that are willing to help rebuild the city of Vancouver.

i have given up all hope on the Bruins
oh how things have changed in two years.. There's more to a team than big names and there's more to playing than winning. Having faith in your teammates and being hungry for victory is the key to momentum.
it's been 39 years for boston. It was the only professional team in the state besides the revolution which many don't count to have not won a championship in recent history. I'm grateful for being in a title town but I'm also scared of possible droughts lol. It's always painful to lose as the favorite but this was a great finale. Hopefully the boston riots will be tamer than those in vancouver when a parade is organized... I'm scared to think of what would have happened if the bruins lost... I fear the damage would have been much worse in vancouver

A person I personally knew was arrested for participating in the riots, it's a shame he is a relatively smart person and is a good person for the most part, I don't know what got into him.

Apparently from what I read and heard in various local news reports (ie. CBC, CTV, Global) were that most of the rioters were from out of town and were only there to cause trouble, regardless of the outcome of the game. At the same time, there were also various gang members and organized crime groups that also planned to ransack the city, again, regardless of the outcome of the game.

Sounds like football hooliganism, a common sight here in the UK, unfortunately. First time I've heard of it happening in Canada, and at a hockey game.

Busy day on the trade front, with the Flyers being the main catalysts. They traded Mike Richards to the Kings for Brayden Schenn, Wayne Simmonds, and a second round pick, and traded Jeff Carter to the Blue Jackets for Jakub Voracek, a first round pick, and a third round pick: http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=369796
(http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=369796)Undoubtedly, both moves were made in order for the Flyers to have enough cap space to sign Ilya Bryzgalov.
Also, the Flames' Robyn Regehr has been asked to waive his no-move clause and accept a trade to the Sabres (:D): http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=369789

Winnipeg Jets staying quiet in free agency
Last season when then Thrashers GM Rick Dudley helped pick apart the Chicago Blackhawks in their great salary sell-off, the additions made to the team helped turn things around in Atlanta for at least a little while. Character additions and talent like Andrew Ladd, Brent Sopel, and Dustin Byfuglien proved to be great ones as Ladd eventually became team captain and Byfuglien was an All-Star while scoring 21 goals as a defenseman.
With the Thrashers being sold and moved to Winnipeg and a new staff in charge of things in Manitoba with GM Kevin Cheveldayoff and team VP Craig Heisinger, things are taking more of a quiet turn for the Jets. It’s the kind of turn that makes you think back on Thrashers offseasons of the past while Don Waddell was in charge of things.
Taking a look at who the Jets have signed this summer, there’s not a single name that jumps out at you for being a difference maker kind of player. Derek Meech, Tanner Glass, Rick Rypien, and Randy Jones highlight the Jets offseason. Meanwhile, they’re still trying to get a deal worked out with Ladd and have seen improving talent Anthony Stewart bolt to Carolina.
If that sounds unimpressive, it makes us think back to the summer of 2009 that saw the Thrashers sign luminaries like Stewart, Noah Welch, Josh Gratton, and Mike Vernace while retaining Colby Armstrong and Kari Lehtonen. For one of this year’s Jets signings, Randy Jones thinks that his new team is going to have to be more blue collar than anything to win as he told the Winnipeg Sun’s Paul Friesen.
“Last year for a good part of the season they were only a point or two behind us and Washington,” Jones said on a media conference call from his home in New Brunswick, Monday. “They work extremely hard, and that’s the main thing you need in this league, is hard work and determination. That’s one thing that stood out, they never give up, they always battled and were always in your face. We’re going to give a good push this season.”
All the hard work in the world can get you only so far though and the Jets are going to need goals. With Byfuglien, Tobias Enstrom, and Evander Kane already in the fold and young centerman Alexander Burmistrov growing up on the job, there’s a handful of point producers there. Overall, however, they’re going to need to find offense from somewhere. Ed Tait of the Winnipeg Free Press highlights a few free agent targets Cheveldayoff could and should be looking at to help the Jets get on the board.
Tait points out guys like Antti Miettinen, Jason Arnott, Alex Kovalev, and Cory Stillman could be sought out to help produce goals. There’s also some major nostalgia available in Teemu Selanne. Of course, Selanne leaving Anaheim for one last run in Winnipeg is more of a pipe dream than a possibility. Regardless, unless the Jets start getting active they’re going to be fighting for goals and hoping that new head coach Claude Noel has the strategies to help the Jets win with minimal offense. Sure Ondrej Pavelec is a very solid goalie, but asking him to be Vezina-level night in and night out is asking a lot of him.
The Jets have been all about surprises since True North bought the team, but they’re going to need to do things differently from how the Thrashers did them in the past if they hope to conquer the Southeast Division and make the playoffs next season.
