Your thoughts?

Anxious, excited, and worried all at the same time. Avatar is like, the single greatest cartoon to come out in the past decade, and I hope the live action film captures it's spirit.

interesting... Sokka is played by an actor who was in twilight... doesn't surprised me with MTV having a hand in this too

The thing that surprises me is that all the ethnic backgrounds of the cast in the movie compared to the show, was Aang considered Asian or Caucasian anyways I hope this movie turns lives up to the series.
Mr. Pink
05-24-2009, 01:00 AM
who knows honestly... i dont think it matters as American movies/ tv shows need to be more ethnically diverse than elsewhere

^ Yeah , I'm still kind of hating on the DB movie but I think for this movie it will definitely work and I like Dev Patel from Slumdog Millionaire.

Ah, apparently there aren't any Asian/Inuit actors out there, hmm?
Well, Dev is Indian which is technically Asian, but still. AND WHAT DID THEY DO TO ZUKO'S SCAR?!
Katara, Saka, and Toph had better be more satisfactorily cast, and I WANT TO SEE CGI APPA AND MOMO NOW.

There's another still that's closer to his face, it's there. It's toned way the hell down, but it's there.

Saka and Toph are not in the movie. They might appear in the later movies, since it's going to be a trilogy.

If MTV ruined Twilight more likely than not they will ruin Avatar (I havent read or seen it, but friends were up in arms when they saw what they paid 10+ bucks to see)

What do you mean Sokka isn't gonna be in the movie? And Toph probally won't be in the 1st but in the 2nd probally if their going by the seasons

^ I thought "Saka" was a different character...
He used "Saka" because in the show they say it so the 'o' sounds like an 'a'.
But as for my overall thoughts on the movie, I think the show is realistic enough that it wouldn't be hard to convert it into live action.
One good thing I saw in that wikipedia page was:
According to an interview with the co-creators in SFX Magazine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SFX_Magazine), Shyamalan came across Avatar when his daughter wanted to be Katara (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Katara) for Halloween (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halloween). Intrigued, Shyamalan researched and watched the series with his family. "Watching Avatar has become a family event in my house ... so we are looking forward to how the story develops in season three,"
So if this is true, and Shyamalan is a fan of the show, it can only help the movie.
Kaidan Alenko
05-26-2009, 01:42 PM
^ Well that's probably our only hope concerning the movie's success.
RyanRXP

^ Well that's probably our only hope concerning the movie's success.
Not really, I think that the biggest hope for the movie is that the show based every form of bending off of an existing martial arts style. The animators of the cartoon brought in martial artists to teach them the styles in order to help draw them. So because they are based off of real world styles, I don't think it would look all that out of place in live action.
Here is what I am talking about:

The trailers ok but that arrow is pretty bad IMO. And he isn't trapped in an ice berg in the movie?

They showed us a TEASER of the movie. You're simply going by what little they showed. Again I repeat...IT'S NOT VERY REVEALING.

06-23-2009, 12:15 AM
The trailer was quite good. The title card looks Harry-Potterish. Although I couldn't really feel the depth of Aang's attack as he was in the cartoon, I guess it was just practice, not real battle.
DarkBlaze
06-23-2009, 12:20 AM
That's what I figured, just practice. Although that last staff stomp was pretty cool.
From the looks of it, I think that was the Fire Nation's attack against the Air Temple. All the more reason why I believe they still might show Aang in the ice berg.

No, it is live action, and it has always been a live action movie. This has been known about since before the show ended, and besides, why would a company release movie information at a video game event? It makes no sense at all.
I thought Aang was in the iceberg during the attack at the Air Temple.......
He was, but you have to remember it is a movie, and we know nothing of the story. It could be him training after the attack, or it could be a dream scene, or it might not be in the movie at all. It is just a teaser trailer, and often they show nothing of the actual movie, they just show what it will look like.
DarkBlaze
06-23-2009, 03:27 PM
Appa is going to be in the movie, and Katara and Sokka will find Aang inthe ice berg:
The film is the first of a planned trilogy, each one centering around a different element, as Aang, Sokka, Katara and Appa, Aang's giant six-legged flying bison creature, travel this mythical world in hopes of stopping the war that's brewing between the four tribes as the Fire Nation advances on its neighbors for land. Aang is an Airbender, thought to be the Avatar who can stop the war and maintain peace by learning the powers of the other tribes. Patel's Zuko is a prince of the Fire Nation who's been banished, so he wants to get his hands on Aang to prove himself and earn back his father's respect.
Nicola Peltz and Jackson Rathbone (best known from the "Twilight" movies) will also have more of a chance to show their stuff as the two most important characters in Aang's journey, two of the Southern Water Tribe who find the avatar encased in ice. (You can see from the teaser that Ringer looks just like Aang, but Rathbone's personality is very similar to his character, too.)
Source (http://www.superherohype.com/news/featuresnews.php?id=8446)
I find it cool that both Noah (Aang) and Dev (Zuko) are both skilled in the marital arts. That's a total plus.

I saw the teaser trailer for this when I saw 'Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen' and I think that it shall be a great movie. I was a fan of the series, and I think that M. Night Shaymalan will do all right with this movie. Other films of his that I have seen were all right, like "Signs" starring Mel Gibson. I will reserve judgment upon this until next Summer when it hits theaters.

It is so they won't get sued for using Avatar in the title.
Why would they get sued? It's an adaption of the t.v. series. If anything, James Cameron would get sued for using the Avatar name.
Quark
06-30-2009, 12:08 AM
No one was suing anyone. Shamwowalon decided to drop the title and go with The Last Airbender to eliminate confusion.
RyanRXP
06-30-2009, 12:15 AM
Why would they get sued? It's an adaption of the t.v. series. If anything, James Cameron would get sued for using the Avatar name.
But using Avatar as your main title(as the last air bender part is a sub-title) would be viewed as an attempt to steal Avatar's title. Would they sue them, probably not, but if an issue was made about it that would raise negitive attention for this movie. And no, Cameron would not get sued because people tend to seperate TV and Movies so an issue wouldn't get raised by it.
Would Cameron have a real lawsuit case? Not really, but they could do damage to the film.

Not exactly related to the topic, but last week on Tosh.0, Daniel Tosh had Terrell Owens do some apologies, and one was for the fans of M. Night Shyamalan. This is what he said:

The teaser trailer doesn't look bad the only problem with Shyamalan is he has these pretty good ideas but it feels to execute them. Take Signs for example, nice idea for a movie, pretty good overall, it's just let down by the terrible CGI and somewhat dodgey ending.
NadisAten
12-22-2009, 08:50 AM
I only really liked The Sixth Sense. Everything else he did, I could've lived without seeing. I hated the whole concept for Signs, actually--at least when it came to the aliens. The whole "can't stand water" thing but coming to a planet that's like seventy-five percent water? I mean, really? (For some reason I think there was a joke on Stargate SG-1 about that once, too . . . hmm . . . )
I'm scared to see what Avatar's going to end up like. There's a chance it might be awesome, but at the same time . . . yeah, I can't say I feel better knowing that Shyamalan is behind it. The trailer looks decent, but then again, trailers tend to make the movie look way better than it actually is . . . which I guess is the whole point of them, lol.

I think it is so cool, ubisoft is involed with the special effects for the movie as well as making the game for it. Most people didn't know ubisoft is in the special effects biz for the last few years. The first movie in the Nick's Avatar sega is the most advanced effects they have done so far. This is the main reason for the heavy promotion of the effects. At the same time they don't want thier involment widely known incase the movies bombs out.
