But as for my overall thoughts on the movie, I think the show is realistic enough that it wouldn't be hard to convert it into live action.

So if this is true, and Shyamalan is a fan of the show, it can only help the movie.

Not really, I think that the biggest hope for the movie is that the show based every form of bending off of an existing martial arts style. The animators of the cartoon brought in martial artists to teach them the styles in order to help draw them. So because they are based off of real world styles, I don't think it would look all that out of place in live action.

The trailer was quite good. The title card looks Harry-Potterish. Although I couldn't really feel the depth of Aang's attack as he was in the cartoon, I guess it was just practice, not real battle.

No, it is live action, and it has always been a live action movie. This has been known about since before the show ended, and besides, why would a company release movie information at a video game event? It makes no sense at all.

He was, but you have to remember it is a movie, and we know nothing of the story. It could be him training after the attack, or it could be a dream scene, or it might not be in the movie at all. It is just a teaser trailer, and often they show nothing of the actual movie, they just show what it will look like.

Appa is going to be in the movie, and Katara and Sokka will find Aang inthe ice berg:


The film is the first of a planned trilogy, each one centering around a different element, as Aang, Sokka, Katara and Appa, Aang's giant six-legged flying bison creature, travel this mythical world in hopes of stopping the war that's brewing between the four tribes as the Fire Nation advances on its neighbors for land. Aang is an Airbender, thought to be the Avatar who can stop the war and maintain peace by learning the powers of the other tribes. Patel's Zuko is a prince of the Fire Nation who's been banished, so he wants to get his hands on Aang to prove himself and earn back his father's respect.


Nicola Peltz and Jackson Rathbone (best known from the "Twilight" movies) will also have more of a chance to show their stuff as the two most important characters in Aang's journey, two of the Southern Water Tribe who find the avatar encased in ice. (You can see from the teaser that Ringer looks just like Aang, but Rathbone's personality is very similar to his character, too.)

I saw the teaser trailer for this when I saw 'Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen' and I think that it shall be a great movie. I was a fan of the series, and I think that M. Night Shaymalan will do all right with this movie. Other films of his that I have seen were all right, like "Signs" starring Mel Gibson. I will reserve judgment upon this until next Summer when it hits theaters.

But using Avatar as your main title(as the last air bender part is a sub-title) would be viewed as an attempt to steal Avatar's title. Would they sue them, probably not, but if an issue was made about it that would raise negitive attention for this movie. And no, Cameron would not get sued because people tend to seperate TV and Movies so an issue wouldn't get raised by it.
Would Cameron have a real lawsuit case? Not really, but they could do damage to the film.

The teaser trailer doesn't look bad the only problem with Shyamalan is he has these pretty good ideas but it feels to execute them. Take Signs for example, nice idea for a movie, pretty good overall, it's just let down by the terrible CGI and somewhat dodgey ending.

I only really liked The Sixth Sense. Everything else he did, I could've lived without seeing. I hated the whole concept for Signs, actually--at least when it came to the aliens. The whole "can't stand water" thing but coming to a planet that's like seventy-five percent water? I mean, really? (For some reason I think there was a joke on Stargate SG-1 about that once, too . . . hmm . . . )

I'm scared to see what Avatar's going to end up like. There's a chance it might be awesome, but at the same time . . . yeah, I can't say I feel better knowing that Shyamalan is behind it. The trailer looks decent, but then again, trailers tend to make the movie look way better than it actually is . . . which I guess is the whole point of them, lol.

I think it is so cool, ubisoft is involed with the special effects for the movie as well as making the game for it. Most people didn't know ubisoft is in the special effects biz for the last few years. The first movie in the Nick's Avatar sega is the most advanced effects they have done so far. This is the main reason for the heavy promotion of the effects. At the same time they don't want thier involment widely known incase the movies bombs out.

On another note, I find Zuko to be the first bad guy turned good that I've liked. Because there was a reason behind his switch, he went through things to find that he belonged with the people he hated. Him and Sokka are my favorite characters.

I got into the series from the begining, the only problem with season 1 though is half of it was filler in my opinion. To me the series didn't pick up until the finale. Thats when it got good. As well I think the second season was probably the best out of the 3.

The problem with book 3 in my opnion had a very good begining but between episode 3 to 10, it had good moments bu ultimatly, it just seemed filler except for episode 6. Season 2 while staretd off slow, quickly became very fluid between episodes, it had a nice mix between drama and humor. The finale was awsome.

Now Book 3 didnt start picking up until black sun 2 parter. Then the series quickly became good again, and especially the humor of Zuko trying to be a good guy. My only problem with the finale is Zuko's mother. While I liked it as a mystery, I wished they didnt add the scene in when Zuko asked about her, it made the finale very choppy.

There was never a plan for a fourth season.

I believe the plan was to do a series of animated movies in order to continue the series.

Most likely the project was put off because of the live action movie(in order to keep interest up in between the live action movie and its planed sequel)

Well that movie failed.

This might be the Last Fricking Strike for Shymalan because i doubt this movie will break even (280m was invested 150m for the movie and 130m for advertisement). Shymalan will never get any major studio to back him for a very very long time. I truly believe this is the end of him, and that is a good thing for film.

if you are a fan of this show don't watch it, it will just leave you sad and disappointed. It is easy one of the worst films of the past 10 years considering it's budget.

There is likely not going to be a sequel and will probably be the last we see of an live adaption for a very long time if at all. It would be nice if they can somehow reboot the film series during or after the new animated series that is coming out, but it seems unlikely.

last i checked it made like 16 million or so but i don't think it will get to 280. they did not release internationally yet and they are sure as hell reading and hearing all the terrible criticism this movie has gotten so a lot will avoid and competing against Twilight is not going to help the cause. Reboot is the only answer.

He shouldn't wrote the script something like that. It's proven that it's really sucks and the writing really sucks BIG TIME. It's really annoying and I just don't approve any of this. Only if Paramount give me a ok to write the script for Avatar the movie, then it would be epic!

I saw the movie myself. You know, developing my own opinion of it.

The movie isn't actively terrible. It does what it can to tell the first season in an extremely truncated fashion and - while it is left wanting - there are redeeming qualities. The fights are pretty and they really poured their souls into those sets & costumes. They even worked super hard to make Appa look good. Zuko is easily the best character, playing desperation for his honor to the hilt. For all he sounded like young Inego Montoya, I loved Iroh.

The negatives are there as well though. Most of the young cast is wooden, and they seem more like they're spouting lines instead of acting. They cut out a lot of important story elements and characters. For two, no Suki or King Bhumi. Haru is de-aged and dropped a peg as a character and the water bending master in the North pole has lost his edge/blatant sexism. 3-D was a bad afterthought. It doesn't contribute, the movie wasn't filmed for it, and it washes the colors out to the point where a lot of the visual work they put into it is lost.

There is 200% more Roku's dragon than we needed. Somehow, they felt that, instead of using that time to build up the other characters guiding Aang, they should let a big cg dragon do it.

It also really lost people. Unless you knew the series, you were not getting this movie. It flies through plot points like they were working an Avatar checklist so you had to see the series before bothering with this movie. They somehow also made Azula's reverence of her father a little creepy. There was a bit of an electra complex at work as she had her minute of screen time

I went into this movie with lowered expectations. I knew it wasn't going to live up to it's potential, seeing as how they could not be bothered to get the original writers/creators. It helped me enjoy the movie a little more. My fiancee enjoyed it thoroughly. The critics opinion is valid, but build your own opinion before anything else. After all, at least I wasn't watching Twilight

Oh ****, was that supposed to be Feng? I guess that does make sense. I still think Roku was essential for this movie. The hero needs an old wizard to teach and guide him. At the very least, have Aang talk to the moon spirit throughout the movie. Form some kind of relationship. Then people might actually care when Aasif Mandvi punches the hell out of it.
