Thread: Beware the Batman

I know this will produce it's share of closed-minded detractors who can't get over the DCAU, but being more objective than them, I'm looking forward to htis

Why are they using a Ninja named Katana... mind you the words "ninja named Katana" is just ... weird historically and kind of like calling Batman "Boomerang Throwing Guy". I've seen stuff on project rooftop like the Stephanie Brown Batgirl cartoon someone came up with. This is... lazy compared to that.

And I'm freaking sick of Batman cartoons and Batman comics. My god, DC keeps whoring Batman out for money. He's got somewhere around 3 titles going simultaneously in comic, this upcoming cartoon and how many cartoons has he had? DC has a wealth of interesting characters and stories, but they keep dragging Batman out to try and cash in on Bat-mania all over again. I like Batman, but give the man a rest.

You know who needs a cartoon? Power Girl. Everyone talks about Superman and Supergirl, but no one talks about Power Girl. She's strong, fun, irreverant and runs her own computer company. She's got all of Superman's powers, and commands the male gaze. Someone give Captain Marvel a cartoon. Dear god, a boy who becomes a grown hero. That's pure wish fulfillment! Toss in Mary and Freddie and you've got a cool cast. Jamie Reyes NEED HIS OWN CARTOON. Just, can we stop using Batman like a trick pony?

Katana has been in DC comics since the early 80s.

Power Girl is one of my favorite DC characters, but we both know that she will not be getting a cartoon any time soon. Super hero cartoons are aimed at young boys, so why would DC consider using a female focused cartoon? However I think she clearly needs an ongoing comic series.

Captain Marvel isn't going to get a cartoon soon because DC can't market anything with the name Captain Marvel(Marvel owns that copy write)

But if we are on the topic of DC heroes that need cartoon, the Flash needs to be mentioned. I would also be in favor of an Uncle Sam/Freedom Fighters cartoon.

The reason why we keep on getting Batman cartoons is because the movies keep on making a ton of money. I agree that Batman really needs a rest. The big problem is that they keep on trying to make a new version of Batman and try too hard to avoid making anything similar to Batman TAS. I think if they take even 5 years with no Batman cartoon they will go back to making a Batman cartoon that is simply the best Batman they can make, not the best Batman they can make without it being like Batman TAS.

It will be interesting to see what this show will be like. Glen Murakami is one of the people behind the show, so at least it is someone with a lot of experience in DC cartoons. Yet I think that CGI is really a mistake to use for a Batman cartoon. So far the animation seems bad, but Transformers Prime proves that CGI requires work all the way until the episode airs before it looks right. It also appears that it wants to avoid the more famous Batman villains. Everyone says that Batman has the deepest pool of villains, it looks like this will try to test that theory.

Aside from the art style looking atrocious, I think that this spits in the face of Batman's legacy of nonlethal weaponry by having his associates use guns.

That said, I'm gonna go kill some Bats and Clowns in Gotham City Impostors...

I am definitely curious what kind of tone this series will have. Honestly, it's gonna be hard to take it seriously with the way that Batman looks. Hahaha!

I still don't like the idea of batmans team Dusing a gun. That isn't batman and besides soccer moms will be in an uproar.I love batman but its just doesn't look appetizing right now.

    Some news from Comic-Con:

-Joker, Penguin, and Riddler won't be making an apperance. That could change with later seasons, but it's not on the cards right now.

-Barbera Gordon will be "in awe of Katana" and will be heavily into computers

-Model and concept art for Bruce, Alfred, The Batmobile, Commisioner Gordon, Mr. Toad, and Metamorpho were shown

And the series will be tone down thanks to the Aurora shooting:

No doubt this means Alfred's gun use will be no more. Pity it took this tragedy to get the show a little closer to Batman's roots
