As for a character type I want to see? Brilliant but lazy. A character who is smart, or a really good fighter, but for some reason chooses not to use his talents.

I wouldn't mind having a Blue or Black Ranger that detests taking orders from Red who, in their mind, didn't deserve to be made leader. Technically, Sky and Jack were like this, but I think it could have been executed better. A good example of what I mean? Wolverine and Cyclops being at each others' throats or Raphael practically challenging Leonardo's leadership of the turtles. I don't know, with PR's track record for Rangers like that, it might not be such a good idea after all.

I think this'd be fun, but so hard. A character like this doesn't jump at the call. In fact, they'll probably see being a ranger as nothing more than an annoyance and try and get out of it. The sheer nature of many of the rangers is that they are the ones who jump to the call. That's what makes them superheroes in that sense. You might get this out of an ancillary character, but I doubt we'd ever see it in a Ranger

Dillon and Scott argued like a married couple, but Dillon never once tried to lead the team himself, so it's not quite the same thing. Similar, yes, but not the same.

There a lot of those actually. Besides the Magna Defender, there's Eric, Merrick/Zenaku, Hunter (kind of), Trent (at first), Will (not so much a loner, but he's definitely no angel), Jarrod, Dillon, and now Decker.

Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing a Ranger who's more Genre Savvy than the others. The Gokai Adaptation would be a perfect opportunity for that, especially if applied to the presumed fanboy antics of the Silver Ranger. I mean here's a guy who would have been fangasming over the Rangers his whole life, probably collecting toys and such, so why not have him also be aware of and lampshade some of the Tropes PR is known for? Have the MOTD be taken down and while the others celebrate he's like, "Hang on, because now comes the part where they get bigger!"
