The Dandy, which is due to celebrate 75 years of publication in December, is under serious threat of being closed in a matter of weeks.

I bet sales would have gone up if they had made a Desperate Dan series or movie.

Or remade Bananaman. He had a series in the 80s, but it's too old fashioned these days.

Good riddance. The Dandy killed itself in 2004 when it amped up the toilet humour and now it's paying the price for it.

Have you seen it lately, they've had two big revamps since then. The 2007 Xtreme revamp was such a failure that the new Art and History of the Dandy book all but ignores it - it gets one page. The 2010 revamp was a lot better, but apparently the damage was already done. The 2007 revamp was a fatal mistake. 2004's wasn't. The mistake with that revamp was the price hike from 75p to £1.20.

Bananaman still holds up today, I've got the whole series on DVD, it's better than either of the two rubbish Dennis and Gnasher shows.

Nostalgics would enjoy Bananaman but I don't think today's kids enjoy it. CBBC tried airing it a few years ago, didn't last long.

Have you noticed that a lot of the changes in the Beano forced by the 2009 Dennis cartoon (character designs, usage of weapons, catchphrases) have been undone? Shows how well that went down with the kids. The same production team are making a new series to air next year, but it'll apparently have some changes from 2009's, probably to make it more in line with the original characterisation and design.

I'm amazed they've never tried to make any direct to DVD movies or one off specials based on other Beano characters. I'd love to see one of the annual stories I remember as a kid being adapted.

They have. The Beano Video and The Beano Videostars were released on VHS around 1995. Both are out on DVD, with The Beano Video renamed as The Beano All-Stars.

No. I swore off the Dandy after 2004. Before then I like both the Beano and the Dandy. After that I only liked the Beano, and have little interest in reading another issue of the Dandy. And I've been given little to no reason to: http://signorestudios.blogspot.co.uk...-so-dandy.html

As for Dennis and Gnasher, I like the new cartoon, but I prefer the old one. In the latter, Dennis and Pie Face sounded more masculine and Dennis behaved like a menace. Sometimes in the new one, Walter behaves more evil than Dennis.

I saw an episode of the Bannanaman cartoon once on CBBC.
