Stop reading if you don't want to be spoiled!

As most of you know, the MMPR dvd set features a bonus pitch of "Galaxy Rangers".

After some searching, I can almost guarantee that it features extracts from the original Bioman pilot. Why I'm so sure about it?

    1) In a 1986 article, they talk about Saban adapting Bioman as Bio-Man and featuring 5 characters with bio-rhythms.
    http://articles.latimes.com/1986-08-...6_1_haim-saban

    2) In the pitch, the Black Ranger is listed as Green bio (Bioman didn't have a black ranger).

    3) The pitch character bios have written info about biorhythms.

    4) In this interview, Mark Dacascos himself confirms he did the "BIOMAN" pilot:
    http://www.markdacascos.de/interview...ct90-engl.html

"I remember, at the beginning of my career, I shot the pilot of the "Bioman" series, which was transformed into "Power Rangers" later. At this time, "Bioman" was a flop, and four or five years later, when Power Rangers appeared, it was successful. It was too early, the American public wasn't ready to see Japanese series. Today, the interest is stronger because they have seen a little part of this cinema in "Matrix", and they love it."

So there you go. Bio-Man pilot was indeed filmed, and featured Mark Dacascos as Victor Lee, our first ever Red Ranger, and Miguel Núñez Jr. as Zack Taylor, our first ever Black Ranger.

I wish Brian Ward can tell us the name of the other actors portraying Billy, Kimberly and Trini.

I think this kinda confirms the "Galaxy Rangers" is a hybrid pilot recycling the Bio-Man pilot footage and mixing it with Zyuranger footage.

So we still have the complete Bio-Man pilot to see. Brian please, get your hands on it!

PS: I know some of you already know about this, but I bet lots didn't.

This looks exactly like his looks on the pitch

    EDIT:

What scares me is this post from August 22nd 2005, where some RB member already knew about this:

Wrong. Bioman was a DUB. The people who WORKED ON It called it "The Bioman dub." Paulie has DESCRIBED IT IN SOME DETAIL. Seeing it, and learning Tony was Rick Hunter, were what convinced him to sign for PR when it went to series. The Galaxy Rangers footage was either shot for this or the Shuki-alleged JETMAN pitch reel pilot.

So Mark Dacascos is wrong himself. Why would the Zyu pilot talk about byorhythms?
I know nothing about behind the scenes, but Mark saying Bio-Man, the 1986 article talking about filming a pilot for Bio-Man and byorhythms, and the footage stating byorhythms and green being black...it kinda points differently.

Not contradicting you, just stating that everything points towards it being a filmed Bio-Man pilot.

But you know more than I do so I'll stick to what you say.

Where can I read what Paulie said about the dub? I'm really curious.

EDIT: I've read an old RB thread where people talked about all those pilots and dubs, and here's what I could get from it (probably wrong by what you just said). This was said by Cyrax9:

    1) Bio-Man: english dubbed with japanese footage
    2) Bio-Man: american actors with japanese footage
    3) Jetman: english dubbed with japanese footage
    4) Jetman: american actors with japanese footage
    5) Zyuranger: pitch included on the bonus DVD.

It was on his original ORB site in 1999. Tony also talked about the Bioman dub being one of the things he personally watched, but did not work on, when he was called in to work on what later became MMPR. As in, pre-Galaxy Rangers. SHUKI is who sprung a Jetman pitch reel. I frankly suspect the bio signatures crap is just left-over scripting crap that never got updated or fixed. Part of how we nailed Jack Olesker as being a fake (besides crap like claiming he was Nick Saban's godfather) is that he said MMPR was always titled MMPR.

I don't care if the Chairman said he worked on Bioman. He didn't. Whoever his interviewer was may have been correcting him during a sidebar ('do you know of a pre-Power Rangers Sentai project Saban worked on...?'), or he simply took the name because the Galaxy Rangers material was shot after the actors had been shown the Bioman dub and it stuck in his head.

Chris, we don't know when the Galaxy Rangers pitch was made. For all we know, Saban dusted off an older Bioman pitch and swapped out the sentai footage for Zyuranger. We know there was a Bioman dub. That doesn't preclude there having been other attempts by Saban to sell Bioman. Since we know Saban's attempt to market Bioman in the US made it to newspapers, there's a solid chance that there may have been more than just the dub made.

Gah, there's so much we don't know!

All I know is that if PR did start back in the 1980s it would have not been successful at all. It could have sparked a quicker interest in international cultural curiosities, but I dont see American kids back then really getting into it. Maybe I'm wrong about that I don't know.

I kinda agree with Mungehunt. If there was just one thing stating there was a Bioman pilot filmed I would have my doubts...but there are so many things cited...the 1986 news report could be talking about a dub only? I think its obviously talking about filming and how can that be wrong, too?

People who WORKED ON PR have said it was only a dub. People who have SEEN IT. Paulie and Tony have talked about "the dub." My stronger suspicion is that footage was shot for the alleged JETMAN adaptation that made it to a presentation stage.

I've asked Miguel Núñez Jr., and without asking him a colour, he told me "yes, I was the first GREEN guy". Jetman was black, right? Maybe he is mistaken, too...

    Some photoshop action I made:
